Leatherface's Blackface Should Not Be In The Game
No, this is not a troll thread. This has always been on my mind ever since I first saw this leatherface skin. I was compelled to make an account after seeing a blackfaced Leatherface troll and be toxic the entire game. It was clear what their intention was with putting on the skin.
So please, listen to understand and not to respond. Yes, we know that Leatherface is a killer and probably a psychopath. Yes, we know that he probably doesn't care which skin he wears-- black or white. Leatherface as an entity himself isn't the problem. The problem is allowing self aware players to put black skin on a white person and playing a "black" Leatherface. As a black person, this does not sit well with me at all. It feels like a mockery. And I know there will be black people replying in the comments "I'm black and dont care." That's cool. But many black people do and I know I'm not the only one who does.
I honestly wonder whether the devs considered the implications of allowing this skin. But all I can say is that it feels very isolating from the game as a black person and I hope I can get a conversation going so that more people can understand that.

It’s just a game, and I don’t think the designers were out to get anyone or anything but I could get where your coming from

You mean the Claudette face? The face from one of the "main cast" survivors? The face where you have to sacrifice a X amount of times this character on trials to unlock? The face which plays so well towards his backstory as the literal Leather(in this case skin) Face?
I will just assume you knew at least one of this things and ask you something, do you think that excluding that particular face and keeping the others would be sensitive towards people with that color? Or it would look like they purposely avoided that face just because of a skin color?

I understand your frustrations, the face he is wearing is Claudette's. Jake, Dwight and Meg's are all also available to unlock. Since Leatherface wears the skin of his victims, it was a fitting feature to add into the game. As far as player's personal intentions, that's unfortunately out of the Dev's control. In my personal experience Leatherface players are for the most part toxic (some, not all). I am sorry you feel this way, hopefully this opens up a constructive discussion about this. ❤️

Please tell this to all the whiners that say this or that perk is too strong, etc.

Think about it this way. If they gave the other starting Survivors (Dwight, Meg and Jake) faces for Leatherface to wear, people would question why Claudette was excluded. It's a vicious cycle that has been brought up on these forums before, and this same argument I just put out is what is thrown down.
I understand perfectly where you're coming from, and I myself don't fully agree with Leatherface being able to wear Claudette's face due to the societal issues behind it, but we have to look at it from the other side. Either Leatherface wears blackface and BHVR becomes racist, or Claudette is excluded and BHVR becomes racist.
You remove one mask, you need to remove the others, and I can guarantee you that NO ONE will support that. I don't even have any of them and I'm against removing them.

Did you watch any of his movies ? Serious question, because if you did you would know that he does take his victim's faces and wears it.

Already did plenty of times

Soooo, it isn't racist if he is wearing a white guy's face, but it is racist if it's a black girl's face. Get a grip, snowflake.
Also, should we should get rid of all the darker skin characters? You know, we don't want to offend anyone and all.

How was leatherface trolling with a Claudette face?? What was he doing so different than wearing any other face?
It doesnt make sense to me.

I don't understand how its offensive but okay
Leatherface's lore is that when he killed people, he makes his faces out of those who he killed
Claudette's one of the original cast of survivors so he got her mask of it

You dont understand the concept of blackface at all it seems.
Im just going to go ahead and say, even though you claim it aint, this is a troll/bait thread.

I don't really understand your problem about it... the only who did that comparison is you and don't try to impose your point of view. It's like someone do a joke on TV and I think it was homophobic. I can't say "this person should apologize for being homophobic" because that was just my point of view. Some people feel attacked or threated by something when they shouldn't, some people are selfish and take everything so personal when it's not.

So your suggestion is excluding that only face or all others too ? I can assure you that no one would want to lose such an amazing feature just because you feel like some people are using it with bad intentions (how you know such intentions without being the killer I don't get yet).

You skipped over me. How was leatherface trolling in the mask? Its impossible he was acting any different towards his face....
2 -
how is that in any way offensive?
like, wouldnt it be a lot more offensive to exclude claudette for the sole reason that she has a dark skin color?

You're okay with a character that murders, skins, and eats characters, but god forbids they have a cosmetic option that allows you to wear the skin of a black person.
Seriously. . .

Yes I remember that stuff but, these two are completely different and like prior said, "Leatherface's lore is that when he killed people, he makes faces out of those who he killed"
Hell, they don't even look close to how each other look
Bubba possibly doesn't know about it either, as he is sorta a cannibal anyways
EDIT: Had a engrish moment

Not sure what we're talking about but I'm pretty sure it somehow offends me

While I understand why it's bothering you you have to realize it would be way more racist not to have the option to wear Claudette's face than vice versa. Having the option to wear her face like any other base survivor's face basically proves the developers see no difference between Claudette and Meg (to name a sample).
Let's be realistic: Some people would probably say the developers were racist if they removed the option to wear Claudette's face.

I can understand that Racism, Prejudice, etc. are all sensitive / hot topics to discuss especially in the US (where I'm guessing OP is from, as am I [I live close to Chicago myself which everyone knows is a bit of an unfortunate hot spot]) but it's important to understand that the developers of Dead By Daylight are Canadian.
I won't claim to know squat about Canada, but I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that their political climate and history is not fraught with the same racial tensions that America's past keeps holding on to well into the present. While I'm sure you could make a very compelling case that racism and prejudice exist in all corners of the globe, I think it's very possible, if not likely, that they truly and honestly don't think about these things in Canada at the very least not as frequently and to the extent / degree that we do in the US.
As it stands the United States is obsessed with Political Correctness, almost in a weird ritualistic way to atone for the apparent sins of the past (that most of us alive were not present for) that I'm honestly not sure is present in any other country. Of course anyone can absolutely correct me if I'm wrong... however I'm reasonably confident that I'm not, America has a pretty unique history all things considered.
I don't think it's necessarily fair to judge people from other countries based on your own social norms or proclivities, if anything it's a tad ethnocentric.

If anything I see it as supporting all races because the developers adding blackface shows that they recognize all races are equal and they're still human beings no matter what's different about the appearance.

So we have 2 pieces of information:
- The killer wore the Claudette face
- The killer played toxic and trolled
Those 2 things do not equate to enough information to infer the intent of the killer. To presume malicious intent with no more information than that is wild speculation at best.
3 -
What did he do in game??????
Black face is painting your face black. Wearing someone's skin ISNT blackface.

It shouldn't affect people in any way. If so, that's more on them.
This is just a game, and it's simply the face of one of the original survivors in the game used on Leatherface and has no other implications what so ever. I doubt anyone puts on claudettes skin just to play a "black" Leatherface, and if someone actually does, they are just idiots, but nothing about their idiocity would change if this wasn't possible, and there is absolutely no reason to get offended by this because you shouldn't care for people like that in the first place. And because again, it has absolutely no racist implications.
I'm all against discrimination in any sort of form, but I don't see how this is a problem in the slightest. Racism is a serious topic, it shouldn't be used on all kinds of nonesense like people nowadays like to do.
In a perfect world, no one would even differentiate between Claudettes and the other survivors faces, because all people would be treated the same. Yes people of different countries have different cultures, but in the end we are all humans.

I say that as I wasn't ALIVE during that
But you just said "It's offensive to some people because of the fact you have a white character wearing black skin."
Now its how the players play with it on
You know that alot of survivors are known cosmetic wise for being toxic right?

Its not blackface at all.
And I guess he never trolled. Seeing how you cant exactly explain how leatherface in claudettes face was able to act different than wearing any other face.....

imagine if the only skin tone he doesnt have were the black one. i bet somebody would complain this is racist

According to OP "only" white people would say that.
