This Patch is going to Skyrocket Killer wait times

Munqaxus Member Posts: 2,752

With all the Killer buffs, the already long wait time for killers is going to skyrocket. Everyone that dual rolls suvivor/killer is going to play killer. Decreasing the survivor pool and increasing the killer pool.

If Novembers stats are correct, I don't even understand why survivors are being nerfed. (Maybe killer has been nerfed since the November release of stats but I don't remember any patches with them being nerfed?).

With the already long killer wait times, I'd rather killer be nerfed a bit to balance out the killer/survivor ratios.

If anyone doesn't remember...

I get pretty good queue times as a rank 1 killer. Even if these changes slightly increase my queue times, I'm willing to accept that as long as godloops get fixed.

Some changes can be considered kind of survivor nerfs even when fixing bad map design happens for both sides.

Some on the other hand sure as hell aren't nerfed enough.

I'm on computer but my killer wait times or horrendous. I usually play survivor because I hate how long the killer wait times are. I use to play killer more but having to wait around for 5 to 10 minutes between matches just sucks.

Not to be mean but it must be a rank thing, hovering between purple and red I get instant games as killer but have to wait 5-10 minutes for survivor red rank. I would be thrilled if it met in the middle like 2-3 minute wait for either

If it’s easy to run killers that long you’re either facing some random killer screwing around or playing low low ranks, not even great survivors can run a killer that long. Show us a cool video of you doing it though.

Honestly, I think the new ruin is just as good as the old ruin, just in a different way. You don't have to waste time kicking gens and if you run someone off a gen and they start working another gen, the previous gen is going to regress to zero. Old hex only regressed during skill checks, which was countered by salt.

However, it's not easy to run any killer for 5 gens with middle tiles. Killers know to avoid those tiles and only strategically go after survivors on those tiles. And killers still get survivors running those tiles. Watch Truetalent or Monto, they slaughter 4 man SWFs. I consider those strong tiles as a strategic element for killers and survivors. When do you run them and when do you go after other survivors. I think it's taking something away from the game and making it a bit to easy for killers.

The upcoming patch isn't really a Killer buff just a balance change, you could say it's a indirect buff but that's a bit of a stretch I would just call it for what it is a balance update.

If you play enough to reach green ranks your wait times should shorten at least a bit. The current matchmaking system takes lower rank survivors to higher rank games if they are in SWF with a higher rank survivor and ranking up as a survivor is much easier than as a killer. These are the main reasons killers have longer wait times until green rank.

I'm pretty sure for most people survivor queue times have been longer than killer queue times. So if anything this will hopefully even out the queue times again.

Who is this "everyone" you speak of? I'm 70/30 survivor/killer and have no plans to change that.

Also, on PS4 I have no trouble finding a match as killer in under 2 minutes at any time. Solo/duo survivor during the day around 5-10mins. Duo survivor at night 10-20mins. UK timezone. I'll be happy if this update brings more killers to queue.

The strongest tiles in the game are located on the outsides of the map. You got jungle gyms and the killer shack. The middle is usually a bunch of unsafe pallets surrounding a god loop. If you understand how to use the outside of the map, you will not only waste the killer's time more efficiently because then they have to travel more distance if they do catch you to get to your team mates, but you are also maximizing the value of the middle tiles as the game is progressively fought in the middle of the map as time goes on. Considering all the second chance perks survivors get, it is entirely easy to run killers on the outer edge of the map.

That might be because of platform. I'm just guessing here, but there's probably a bit more survivors in ratio to killers on console compared to PC because of the inbuilt party system and more killers on PC because of better controls/sensitivity.

Also after this patch many red rank survivors will drop back to the rank they actually belong to (I think I belong to purple and not red ranks) so there will be more purple and green rank survivors for killers in those ranks thus shortening the waiting times for killers. Hopefully the upcoming skillbased matchmaking will fix waiting times even more.

Lmao killer in red ranks is legit instant queue, the moment you press the ready button you're already in a game.

Just shows how much of a killer shortage we got, so making killers come back and having to wait a bit longer won't hurt us at all.

On the other hand survivor queue takes 15+ minutes for a single game, incredible.

Maybe at low ranks for you. But on PC Rank 1, I get matches instantly every time. And as a Rank 1 Survivor, I have to wait (Solo queue) for 2-5 minutes. Longest is 10 but that depends on the time of day.

Not during the day. You wait 5-10m for a red rank killer game. Survivor Q is instant during the day. Killer Q is only instant at night.

I get instant killer queues whenever I play killer. I have 5 minute wait times as a survivor and that's pretty consistent. So maybe this will even out the queue times. What a great patch it'll be !

Lol comparing a hex perk that can be destroyed the first 20 seconds of the game to map layouts and window spawns that stay there forever and nothing the killer can do. Really bad comparison bud

No idea why people are disagreeing. He's not at all wrong, except for stating that, at this SPECIFIC moment in time, killer queues are long when they're fast (but only at the moment).

Then you got people talking about Ruin because we gotta forcefeed our salt about that into every thread.

    What even is this.

So when most people are playing, that is between 3:00 PM - 1:00 AM, is when killer queue times become instant. Which would mean we have a shortage of killers.

It will depend on the individuals region. Some regions will have more killers while others will have more survivors at different times of the day.

Which way the survivor vs killer pendulum swings is also a large factor.

  • johnmwarner
    johnmwarner Member Posts: 3,793

People are disagreeing because their experience is different. I get instant survivor queues at red rank all morning and afternoon, then evening instant killer games at purple rank. I am in Eastern U.S. so people in different areas or not on PC may experience different times.

Nope survivor queue is just as long in the day than it is at night time for me, but you are right that killer queues are no longer instant in daytime, yet they are still quicker than survivor queue.

There's especially a shortage of killers at night time because that's when the toxic SWF 4 man deathsquads tend to be more active.

Already long queue times? Killers nerfed once? Lol what timeline are you living in? Killers have received a couple of nerfs recently and queue times are instant, even at red and purple ranks.

I've got 8 second wait times right now and have for months at rank 1. I'd be fine with even a 5 or 10 minute wait per match, if that match then lasts longer and is fairer. But truth be told I doubt it. People have said this before... I'd say in 6 weeks I'll still be getting 8 second wait times.

Edit: This is proveable. Right now DBD has an average of 44,000 concurrent players on steam and similar on other platforms, when this patch comes out I'll check how many concurrent players we have for say a few weeks after + observe my wait times (I play 2-3 hours a day) and give a report by editing this post, and if I'm wrong, I'll admit I'm wrong.

I got short killer queues and long survivor queues usually. And the last few patches got two noticeable survivor nerfs. Toolboxes and BL. Killers got Nurse, Spirit, Freddy, Oni and Ruin.
