Why isn't stream sniping worthy of a ban?

Stream sniping almost always ruins the experience for the streamer. Even if they're a farming stream sniper it could be a waste of a match. I really think that stream snipers should be banned if reported but that's just my opinion.

I mean, the streamer could hide their (for that stream) made up username and could hide the lobby till the point the match starts....

It just seems to be lots of reasons that add up. There's a lot of streamers, a lot of TTV names, it's pretty easy to snipe, it's very difficult to definitively prove somone's actually stream sniping because there is the fact they could just be having a lucky game... Even if someone jumps in your chat bragging about being a toxic waste of space, even if you don't have a TTV name, they could just be pretending to be someone that just beat you and actually have nothing to do with the game you played just to get that person banned.

If Stream Sniping is bannable I would be banned on the spot because I always find Twitch Streamers in my lobbies. I don't even look for them.

Here's the thing, you cannot prove someone is stream sniping on purpose unless that person intently says so that they were sniping their stream. Because streamers can get into your lobbies in the regular.

    Stream sniping should be celebrated.

I don't want any game I'm playing in broadcast.

    Thank you very much.

If it ruins your experience, stop putting TTV on your name.

    Easy solution.

No game should punish people for it unless it's combined with other offenses like harassment or cheating if you ask me. There's no real way to prove that it took place outside of a confession no matter how "fishy" it might look.

Just look at controversies like the ones in PUBG and Fortnite. When it's an inherently punishable offense on its own it can also be "weaponized" by streamers that want to do so because again, there's not really any way to conclusively prove that it took place.

At the same time I do think the game should have a "streamer mode" like many others have, where a player can activate it and it replaces everyone's names with stuff like "Meg 1, Meg 2, Dwight 1" and so on. Both makes it harder to stream snipe and protects the people the streamer gets matched with, as even if the streamer discourages it there might be galaxy brains in their chat that find people in matches and harass them for silly reasons.

As annoying as it is, there's not much you can really do about it. I finally got to a point where I was high enough in the directory to take ttv out of my name and my games got a lot more chill. Funny how that works. Streaming with a delay kills the viewer experience. That's not really an option.

My advice: if you're a survivor main, take ttv out and put a link in your steam profile. Participate in the twitch community whenever you're not streaming and make friends. Your life will be dbd 24/7, but you'll grow faster with a better foundation.

A lil confused by this. What is meant by a "made up username"? I think Xbox only allows one name change per month. I could not even find this option in-game.

ok the username part is just for PC, the rest is the same regardless of platform

Why does stream sniping bother you? Because it “may” give someone an unfair advantage against you?

    EASY FIX: Don’t stream.

If you put ttv in your name you are asking for it to be honest

Why are they even allowed to stream games with me in it without my consent? Do they hide my name?

hmm, have to look it up, did i agree to that when i installed the game?

Have to admit, it's strange that streamer's can make monetary gain off of people playing with them that they don't know without their permission. I'm pretty sure there's nothing to be done about it though.

Streaming is a double edged sword to me. On the one hand, I enjoy watching some streamers. I know it's also free advertising for BHVR. On the other, I hate having to routinely change my name on Steam just to play one game. And I get Streamer's a lot. Some are nice, some are toxic, and their communities tend to reflect that. I've seen some communities retaliate even.

I'd go as far as to block most streamers I've been saddled with if I knew they were streaming after the game just so I wouldn't have it repeated. Doesn't do anything however. The dream would be just being able to opt out, but BHVR doesn't have control over that either.

I find it funny when they ask me to come watch them after a game too. It's like, "You see that I'm actually playing right now, right? Much more fun than watching you do what I'm currently doing."

When I stream, it occurs to me that I may be sniped. But I just consider that a hazard of streaming. Our official position on it not being bannable is also in part because as Peanits says, it's impossible to enforce.

It is possible to not have survivor names show in lobby to the killer before the match... Which results in stream sniping and other unethical behavior.

That's like showing everyone in class your math test paper, and then complaining to the teacher that everyone cheated and copied your paper.

If you show your screen to someone and then complain that they're cheating, you should fix it by not showing your screen anymore. You will always ruin the risk. Especially how people advertise themselves in their steam name or post as a link in pre/post game chat
