Can we get rid of the DC penalties until random dcs are fixed?

I know I'm not the only one getting affected by them. It's getting annoying and it's been costing me many games/pips. I really dislike the idea of getting punished because of something that isn't my fault.

Or can we just get rid of them forever because they didn't fix anything. It hurts innocent players more than it does the people who deserve them.

Some of us called this months ago, but people here were too busy drinking the kool-aid and accusing anyone who had concerns of being a filthy disconnecter.

Well, guess a lot of people are going to get what they deserve. It will affect them at some point too

Mind giving some details to these random crashes/DCs?

PC or console? If PC, what is your hardware? Are they really random, can you feel it about to happen, or do you notice a pattern? Are you using a wired or wireless connection? What is your average ping to servers, does that ping change while in lobby?

Look, I'll be honest with you. I know DbD can and often a buggy mess of a game. But DbD also isn't prone to crashing or causing DCs without reason. Often enough that reason can be a bad install (I personally had a patch install bad and cause massive problems) but in my years of playing DbD crashes or DCs simply do not happen without reason.

For all we know this could be a problem with your hardware, internet connection, ISP, or physical location and not the game itself. The more information you can tell us the better we can help. Saying "my game crashed, FIX IT" does jack ######### for anybody.

I've had servers do this to me a lot, too. On Switch. Too many games where the game just crashed out of nowhere, and I can't even send a report because there's no option available. I don't think they should get rid of DC Penalties. But they shouldn't let them escalate so fast.

I'm a PC player. My hardware is enough to comfortably play above 100 frames at any time, my connection is wired and I live in Sao Paulo (city in which the server is hosted) so my ping never goes above 15.

I know it's going to happen when the players (killer and survivors) start running into walls and actions such as repairing generators, vaulting and using items stop working. The end game screen comes up and it says "Match server closed" in the post game chat.

I also know the match server didn't in fact close because my friends keep playing normally and tell me I disconnected.

There was also this strange incident in which me and the streamer I was watching got this simultaneously, and that made me think there's indeed some type of pattern behind this, couldn't figure out what though. Maybe it's the brazilian servers, don't know. Still extremely inconvenient.

Keep Task Manager open while you play and have it in the performance tab monitoring your ethernet.

This reads to be a type of internet outage and keeping Task Manger open should tell you what is happening to your internet. Download and upload rates should remain a constant during gameplay. When you DC, the game should attempt to reconnect you can see with data spikes. Single tick spikes often means your connection to the internet died. Maybe your router/modem, maybe your ISP. Could be for a number of reasons as well. Anything from damaged wires, hardware failure, weather, some animal, or too many people online in that area at once.

But, there's a catch. You need to go through these DCs in order to test it out and gather data. And each DC means your get a longer ban. It is best to play other online games for a few days to see if this happens elsewhere. Not just 1-2 games. 1-2 DAYS of normal gameplay at least to cover bases and keep yourself safe from longer DC bans.

After a few days or so of other online games and monitoring your data use you should know if it is DbD, your hardware, or your ISP causing the problem. Might be lucky and figure it out in under an hour by having DCs elsewhere. It will be a process in any case and it will be a pain in the ass. But this might be something bigger than internet connections.

I know that too well. Bad internet on my end lead me to finding out the main power line feeding my house went bad. It corrupted and was 100% a fire in waiting that forced me to move out till it was fixed.

And as I type all that out.. I see DbD's twitter just updated that they are having connection problems on their end. Still a good idea to figure these things out yourself anyway if possible. Never know what you'll learn.

Finally someone knows what I'm talking about. I play on switch as well and its been happening alot. People on here say "oh well it hasn't happened to me so it can't happen to anybody else" and honestly its annoying because it happens so much.

I wish people would not rely on one ping test or a ping test every so often. to use the internet you go through a minimum of generally 4 or more routers. and if you only check your connection to your IP you don't rule anything but that connection out. plus even if the connection to an intermediary router wavered enough to disconnect you, it might be back up by the time you do a ping check. this is the problem that many people including IT professionals default to until they start looking at the issue.

If you get dropped and your friends don't that means something may have just dipped low enough for any router to drop your signal but you reconnect again and thus it's back up. even monitoring your ethernet connection is not always going to show you the problems. Also program instability on your system is not always dbd related either, it could easily be something else causing the computer to drop programs like dbd because it is a heavy resource. There are lots of posibilities that even the devs can not fix. If you find you're starting to be dc'd a good deal then take a break, fix a meal or something. come back to it either later or the next day.

I personally have had two dc's that I did not do myself (yes I've done it once or twice but usualy if i get to the point i do that, i realize i'm getting pissy and I will take a break from the game to cool down). and this is all since they instituted the penalties. how can my client be more stable than someone else's? dunno have to look into their client installation, other programs running etc. so you can't compare the two but you can draw a conclusion that if 1000's of people are not having client crashes every few minutes the issue is local and not a design or dev issue.

Thanks for the response. Thought it was kinda weird for this kind of issue to only happen in DBD but these do appear to be isolated cases.

you are very welcome. I've had issues like these in Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, I've been booted from matches there and when it first came out i've joined mid match so they lost someone (at the begining it was always 4 people in the multiplayer). I've also been disconnected in everquest, eq2, coh/cov, swtor and other mmo games (all these servers or connections are controlled by the respective companies EA, SOE/daybreak, etc). I've had client crashes in games that are single player and i find it's the install, not done right. so there are a great many things :) I wish you the best, and I want to say do not rely on "PING" but use it along with other information you can find like your ethernet monitoring etc to make sure what your issues are. :) Best of luck in the fog out there!
