If you love Dead by Daylight... Here's why you SHOULDN'T stop playing!

I feel like I lied to myself and to everyone else in my past posts about how much I love the game and how much I will keep playing. I said I won't stop playing this game. And yes, I won't, except... I feel so burned out. I decided to take a small one day break from Dead by Daylight and I instantly lost majority of my motivation to play.

And no, it's not because of the players, the bugs, or anything, I just don't want to play recently. But I still love the game. I still love the developers. I still would spend money on it... But I feel like I can only get back to it when the next update comes.

Just a piece of advice from myself: If you are a person like me who loves video games and has a favorite game but is easily burned out of any game, even their favorite one, please do not stop playing daily. Every day you start to use your computer, make sure the first game you play is your favorite one. I stopped because I wanted to take a one day break, and now I'm struggling to find the motivation to launch the game and play it again, even if my friends have been calling me over and over to come and play.

I hope I get my motivation back in the next update.

Yeah, I've been playing CoD a lot more, A LOT more.

In the Battlepass, I'm at Level 80 out of 100 already because Dead by Daylight is just.....

They need to fix their servers, hitboxes and latency.

    That's all.

I feel the same way dude. I only started playing the game again yesterday after 6 days without playing it, that's the longest I've gone without playing it. I was and always will be a huge supporter of the game, the developers and everything about it, but like you I've lost any motivation to play probably because of how long match-making is at red/purple ranks. I would happily play so much more dbd if the matchmaking was improved (which I believe they're working on a system). For now the only thing that will keep me playing it is the new rift as it focuses on two of my favourites Kate and Anna <3

Final Fantasy is taking the burn away for me at the moment. That and plunder in warzone <3

Whatever works for you, personally I've learned throughout the years that's the best thing I can do if I feel burned out on a game I love is to take a break. I've done it with DBD twice after grinding the hell out of it during extended events, and more times than I can count with games like Team Fortress 2.

For me anyway it always seems to let me come back to the game with rejuvenated interest. But I guess this is something that's different from person to person, and everyone just has to find their way of dealing with it through trial and error 👍️

Lol just play something else. Eventually you’ll answer the fog’s call again. If you feel burned out of DbD i suggest try Maelstorm on steam if you like casual naval shooters. I said this game because it’s really well made for an F2P and way too underappreciated.

It's no good forcing yourself to play something that you are bored of. It's better to wait, 'cut off' from the game and come back later.

If anything, my reasoning on forcing myself to stay is because I don't want to miss out on much.

Going to give a bad example here, please don't hate on me (because of the game I chose), but I have the Battle Pass on Fortnite too and I literally have no motivation to play that either, kind of like Dead by Daylight. And I'm far from Tier 100. It's like I wasted V-Bucks on nothing.

I don't want it all to go to waste just because of burnout.

I'm the same. I bought the Pass for the recently ended Tome and grinded the hell out of it, just because I knew if I didn't I'd leave the game for a while and not return in time. Now, I like to play every few days, but from now on, I won't be grinding out the pass. At least Fortnite has extended their season so it gives me a change to slowly make it to 100 since I lost all motivation to touch that game for more than 1 match.

My "tactic is different". If i lose motivation to play (i play more Killer than Surv) i stop 1 week and then when i go back i focus on "personal achievement" like:

    • try to finish the match in less than x min
    • try to hook at least x surv in x min
    • try to use the "most useless perks" and to sacrifice at least 2 surv before the end of match
    • ecc.. ecc...

I get it that you want to finish Fortnite battlepass because you paid for it and I would do the same. But if I finish this battlepass I would stop playing to rest a little bit. If I miss out something, then in the future I will have more fun exploring new stuff when I decide to come back. Really, it's not worth forcing yourself to play a game.

PS There is nothing wrong with Fortnite.

This happened to me with Mortal Kombat 11 haha. I slowed down once I started playing DBD and its been more than a week since ive booted it up :'(

We start a new ranked season tomorrow and I'm sitting here trying to find the motivation to start the grind again.

Tbf its the only game I played for almost a year and getting wrapped up in THAT ranked mode will take its toll on you for sure.

I gotta start varying it up so I don't burn myself out on DBD too but I'm hooked (forgive the dumb pun). With the new update and rift coming this week im not going anywhere lol, I'm gonna have to find some time to do my ranked MK sets every day.

I find it good to just alternate between games. I play Don't Starve Together for a while, get burned out, move over to a story RPG, finish it, maybe play another RPG or I'll be ready to play DST again. Now DBD is in that rotation, because I like this game a lot, but could easily see myself getting burned out in a couple of months.

I've tried forcing myself to play games, and that made me even more disinterested in them. Games are meant to entertain you after all, and if they aren't, then it's not fulfilling it's role.

I really rarely get burned out. And even when I do,it's for a short time. Although I did take a 3,4 days break once. I don't think it's anything special tho. I'd just suggest switching roles if you main one side,or just focus and make ur own objective so that you make the game more fun for yourself.

I'd had enough of DbD for around the past 2 weeks and haven't played it since because I was waiting for this update. After seeing all the changes that weren't gonna be added until the next update in the PTB I lost all motivation to carry on playing because I don't wanna put myself through this garbage when we have something potentially pretty good coming eventually so I went to play other games but I still enjoyed watching streams. Have I wanted to play DbD in the last 2 weeks? Absolutely not. But do I want to play it once this update drops tomorrow? Yeah I do because this might be the best update we'll ever get and I'm hoping it'll keep me playing.

Gotta say, if you took one day off and lost your motivation to play, maybe you don't "love it" as much as you think. Maybe you love the idea of it, but not the current state of the game. It sounds like it just became a habit, then you took time off and realize that that is all it was.

This so much. I've stopped playing for the same reason, I play both sides but I enjoy the role of killer and playing that felt like a job. I enjoy watching the discourse within the community regarding changes and updates but that's about it. I made a "come back" but I just wasn't feeling it.

It's not the state of the game. The game is fine. It's leaning more towards the players. For the heck of it I played a couple games yesterday and not only I got Huntress three times in a row, but also two of them had Iridescent Head.

But I couldn't be mad at one of them, because it was Michi, the YT guy who is a Hag main and was supported by Otzdarva. He also let me live. Which gave me hope..

..That hope I lost the game after because it was a very bad Russian P3 Rank 1 Hillbilly who couldn't even play right but got a 4k with four generators still up.

If the game is good, you will always come back to it. I play super metroid, diablo 2, halo, uncharted, knights of the old republic, Alan wake, and half life 2 pretty much every year. I never lack motivation to play those games. If you find yourself not wanting to play, it's because you don't actually enjoy the game any more.
