So You Want To Ban Camping

Three simple steps to ban camping.

  1. After ten seconds of the killer being within ten meters of the hook and not in a chase, the killer’s aura becomes visible to all players.
  2. After ten additional seconds within 15 meters of the hook without being in a chase the killer’s movement speed and recovery speed from attacks is slowed by 50%.
  3. After ten additional seconds within 15 meters of the hook, the killer catches on fire and has ten seconds to leave the area or he dies.

Post edit: This is satire. Camping doesn’t bother me. I’m a survivor main, and there are plenty of ways to counter camping killers. Although, I think survivors new item with the next patch should be a flamethrower.

    Kill the killer! 🔥🔥

No but seriously the first two are interesting ideas but the values need to be adjusted and it shouldn't be a chase requirement, just whether or not a survivor is within a certain range.

The killer should not die tho lol

The last one is really just a joke. I mainly did this just to point out how easy it would be to ban camping.

Although... You might need the third one for some Bubbas.

Personally camping doesn’t bother me. If survivors were smart, campers would only get 1 or 2 kills max.

I think it’s a legitimate strategy. I think most survivors just don’t know how to counter it.

I'll demonstrate: it's a feature. The killer is allowed to camp and shouldn't be bannable. It's like asking to ban teabagging. Because some people think it's toxic (which is not since it's a strategy) that doesn't mean that should be banned.

Btw I know that you don't want camping to be banned, I just specify my reasoning.

Also a flamethrower would be a great idea xd

    I have another one.

Each time a survivor crouches within 1 second after he stopped crouching, he gets a hidden stack. At 5 stacks, each additional crouch releases a fart that can be heard within 16m. At 15 stacks he starts to drop brown coloured blood stains on the ground. At 30 stacks the survivor explodes.

When a survivor is within 8m of a hook while a survivor is hooked on that one, or when a survivor lets go of a gen within 2 seconds after a down within 32m, the survivor starts yelling "Camper" repeatedly for the next 30 seconds. (make it either combined with a pointing gesture towards the killer, or hitting himself on the head each time he yells)

When hitting survivors with endurance active, the killers weapon will break, reducing the hit cone by 80% and disabling exposed effects for the rest of the game. And DS should simply grant I-frames for 60 seconds.

Killers standing on the opened hatch for 10 seconds trigger a grinder that shredders the killer.

Staring at a hooked survivor for 10 seconds starts a reverted Ruin effect, progressing all gens on the map for 200% of the normal speed.

I like all of these ideas. But don’t you feel like after enough repeated crouching stacks have been achieved, that crouch mode will be locked in the crouched position for the rest of the game with urban evasion turned on?

I really prefer the explosion. But if we go for your solution, I would add random farts at least each 1-5 seconds. And being broken

Camping is definitely a legitimate strategy but so WAS infinite looping through windows while being chased. The devs definitely stopped survivors from being able to do that but still allow Killers to play unfairly.

How is are Infinite loops in the same category as camping? An infinite loop is Infinite, it will go on forever, it can't be stopped. Vs "camping" a method of applying pressure to survivors and make the game more dramatic and forcing them to choose the most appropriate course of action, which by the way can be beaten. You're seriously comparing something impossible to beat with something that is relatively easy to overcome.

Also can you please explain how camping is playing unfair?

Camping will now result in the game unistalling from the persons console/pc without their concent and deleting their dbd account

survivors mains can be happy now!

What do you mean appropriate course of action? I think the decision here is: rush gens or die

Yes, determining the appropriate course of action is exactly that. Get the Generators done, or try and rescue the other survivor. If you feel you and your team can get the unhook without wasting too much time then that was the appropriate choice. If you get the generators done, then its the same thing.

Very happy to see people with whom I have common ideas, on a theme that fascinates me!

Indeed, if camping is a legitimate strategy, it is a question of understanding why and when. Killers are fascinating beings.

Camping is a legitimate strategy when the killer wants to prevent another survivor from picking up the hooked survivor. In this situation, it is therefore necessary that at least a second survivor is nearby, and that the killer tries to prevent him from approaching the hook, so he must chase him.

Indeed, the condition of the proximity of another survivor is not sufficient, because this proximity is not necessarily information that the killer has. He can just assume that another survivor will come unhooked his comrade: and he's right, so he waits. However, this is not acceptable. This completely reverses the logic of the game where the killer must chase the survivors, and where the survivors must flee the killer.

Everything that comes out of this precise context is therefore not strategic camping, it is a hostage taking considerably impacting the gameplay, even griefing for the survivors concerned. It therefore seems necessary to me to punish the killer when he waits near a hooked survivor without any valid reason, without the presence of another survivor whom he chases.

For this I propose to gradually offer various advantages to the hooked survivor : Kindred, then Borrowed Time, then Deliverance.

If the killer wishes to camp legitimately, strategically, he will therefore have to make sure that a survivor is actually nearby to force him to leave by chasing him. Perks exist to obtain this information, such as Whispers, Spies From The Shadows, Hangman's Trick, Territorial Imperative...

Otherwise, he takes a risk by voluntarily staying close to the hook.

That’s an interesting idea. I like the idea of automatic buffs being added to the survivor the longer the killer camps. That is fantastic thinking.

    20 sec - BT

    30 sec - BT+SB

    40 sec - BT+SB+No Scratch marks

50 sec- BT+Sb+No Scratch marks+ Survivor gets a Molotov cocktail

It’s very important to keep the most reasonable idea in this thread alive, which happens to be my idea of setting the killer on fire.

Camping the hook is a strategic part of the game and is viable in so many ways. If the killer is camping a hook then team mates should be doing gens. The End.

I think people are reading wrong and think you want campers to be banned from the game. If I’m not mistaken, you want the act of camping to be banned so no one does it. I know it’s a Joke but they’re pretty neat ideas. I’d make the last one just give the camped surv 100% chance to Kobe just to waste more time Since they probably won’t get very far

In all honesty, I don’t want camping banned. The point of the post is simply that it could be banned very easily, but it isn’t. I would suggest that is because camping is a necessary gameplay element, and in order to have it’s balance, you have to allow the extreme campers. Sucks for the guy on hook I know, but the satire of my post is designed to point out how ridiculous banning camping is.
