Is Rank Really Necessary?
I honestly play Dead by Daylight for fun. You're probably thinking "Woah. Fun in a competitive game? Gross.". Obviously we need something to sort out the vets and the people who've just bought the game but is something like MMR or Rank really all that necessary? Couldn't your first X matches after buying the game or matches below X hours be with players who have also just bought the game or with hours below X. I feel that ultimately rank is a part of the main reason there's so much toxicity and seen as it really doesn't do anything is it really truly needed.

"i feel that ultimately rank is a part of the main reason there's so much toxicity"
What why?

Yes, rank is necessary somewhat.
It gives you a very rough indication of the expected skill you have to look forward to in your opponents and teammates.
If you see a Rank 20 Survivor and a Rank 1 Survivor side by side, you know they both are most likely to be different in skilll, gamesense, and how useful they are in a match.
It doesnt accurately judge Skill, just gives you a very rough estimate.

Seeing as ranking is not working as intended do to ######### matchmaking I do not think it is.
Lot of survivors get carried by their friends see teams and with rank 13 killers getting rank 1's in there lobby yeah...

That's not a good solution simply because there are those who have an alt and stay at a low level and thus low play hours to stomp newer killers. MMR like other competitive games would be great to separate users based upon skill rather than an arbitrary rank. You could still have ranks based in mmr but keep players around the same mmr rank. That better denotes a players skill level and adjusts accordingly.

I often join SWF channels in the DbD discord and majority of the time someone doesn't pip they tend to blame it on the killer. Often complaining in voice and unfairly judging and calling out the killer for ultimately bs excuses. I understand that it may tend to happen every now and then but it definitely seems to be more common than not (and more extreme in some cases). Getting pretty annoying to tell people to stop being an [BAD WORD] for no reason over and over again. I don't know maybe I'm just a toxicity magnet.

You all make valid points and I appreciate the discussion.

So far rank in my opinion rather than judging the skill is judging the time spent in the game which could corelate to better skill overall, but not much.
When the new MMR system will be introduced, like in CS:GO or LOL for example, where you rank up based on a lot of certain things you do then it's gonna be very beneficial. It should be a much more complex than the emblem system, yes that worked, but that was good when the game was new, now it should be a much more complex algorithm that should have it's values and parameters hidden to avoid exploiting.
The classic ranks and emblem shouldn't stay imo because it's gonna be very confusing, imo, have the ranks tied up to the MMR not the emblem system.
