Dunce icon for players who dc (devs please read)
For players that dc, I came across a idea for them to possibly prevent dc'ing. So, basically they get a "dunce" icon.
Instead of this status icon:
They should have this:
I think that it would add to the DC "punishment" and give players a good laugh

It's a hilarious idea, but they don't like shaming anyone. =/
I Love the idea though.

Just match frequent DCers with other frequent DCers (keep the current penalties, though). The problem will be isolated and sort itself out.
16 -
They should replace the "ready" button with this image as long as the person is banned, IMO
7 -
Then why punish at all if they are against shaming?
2 -
I'm totally for it too, but the one thing I kind think that would be a problem is the same problem they have with detecting genuine internet outages and intentionally disconnecting from the game.

Shame.
Shame.
Shame.
Shame! Shame! Shaaaaaaame!
1 -
Because there's a difference between disciplining bad behaviour and shaming the culprit.
7 -
If there is a strategic reason to dc...assuming I am not going to give up a great deal in the meantime yes I'll dc...some killer slugs me so he can find the other survivor before the hatch opens....yeah he can expect a dc in his immediate future.

Shame on youuuuuooouuuuuuu :P
1 -
And we all know what happened to the Sparrow and his followers that scene refers to don't we?
0 -
That. Do that. Please.
2 -
And the killer will laugh at you. He still gets his bps and pip points. The better option is to crawl and hide. If you bleed out its TECHNICALLY a draw since he doesnt get any pip points for that (though tbh no killer cares). All you do by dcing is screw yourself

Shame on the killer for trying to do his objectives.
0 -
Whats the difference as far as DC?
0 -
Not my problem or concern.
0 -
And this is why the DC penalty exists ladies and gentlemen.
2 -
I give my teammate the hatch quicker and if everything works out I cost the killer a sacrifice...actually two...though yes he does get a quitters bonus.
If no killer cares why did the OP list dc'ing to give hatch one of his #1 pet peeves...obviously a good many do in fact care.
0 -
I can spare the 5 minutes. Actually less since it'll take a few for my teammate to either escape or die. I only dc when it makes strategic sense to do so...not like I am dc'ing every other game.
0 -
Why are you so addicted to your teammate that you would give them a free escape...while denying yourself all the points you EARNED?
That's silly.
I might die quickly on a hook if I feel they found the hatch. But I would never DC just to be certain theyd get it...
1 -
I would dc just to get that icon
3 -
Depends how well I did. If I was like a god that game and was going to double PIP...probably not going to dc in that case. If I had an awful game and was going to lose a pip anyway and maybe get 8K BP...I can spare the yellow Medkit with the bandages add on frankly. I'd also be more likely to give the hatch to one of my SWFs than some solo.

Isnt this in other games like red names? I dont see the problem lol.
0 -
No, you cost him 1 best caee scenario. You dcing counts as a kill. The only time a dc hurts a killers points is right at the beginning of the game, he can slaughter the other three easily, so less points from them as well as less points from whatever he would have got off you.
You quitting in the scenario you gave means you gurantee him the 3k. The 2 that are already dead and you. And i went back and read the op, he was talking about dcing in general because in 99% of situations it benefits the killer and they dont care about that little bit of bp loss

While I feel this is a good idea the main problem is that you as a player can't punish them by kicking them out.
In ff11 if you had some person being a ass you and your group just didn't invite them and they hit a wall on content.so when given a 2nd chance they don't waste it.
This game it would only make match's take longer

It's another post actually. What is your biggest peeves in DBD where the OP listed as #1 dc'ing to give the hatch. If I can cost the killer a kill by giving the hatch...I'm fine with that.

So youre willing to throw all your points away and sit through a dc ban just to force the killer into getting a 3k instead of a 4k? Thats one of the most ludacris things Ive ever heard and a wonderful argument on why the dc ban exists 😂
And why you should be wearing a dunce cap 🤷♂️

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that this would instantly become a badge of honour among certain players, if anything they should think about a universal dunce cap cosmetic, i'm sure it would sell like hotcakes.

If you read my earlier post. If I was having a god of a game...no I am not going to dc at that point. If I am going to lose a pip anyway, I can spare the 8K in BP...sure I can wait for the next game for that yellow medkit and bandages addon. And 5 minutes (which will actually be a good deal less as it will take time for my friend to either escape or die) isn't all that great. Not like I dc every other game. Never had more than a 5 minute ban. And you mean ludicrous meaning foolish. Ludacris was a no talent hip-hop artist.

*gasp* dont you talk about luda like that 🤬
😂

that too lol

Imagine you're forced to dc due to a game-breaking bug, of which there are none in DbD yeah right, and then insult is added to injury with you being shamed for no fault of your own.
2 -
Shaming the culprit never results in correction of behavior. Think of them as children, would you put your own child for public to laugh at because they did something bad?
0 -
yeah, I guess your right... I thought that this would be funny but now that I think about it it is a "dunce" idea. It would work if the game was programmed to know the difference between disconnection errors and people "dc'ing" then maybe it would work... But good point
1 -
This isnt a childs game....??? Hiw do children relate?

Isn't this the hidden icon in the game files?

Then its also not the killer's problem if you dont have fun.

Back in 2016, the dunce hat kid icon was actually a perk called "underpreform". But I think they removed it

Well, the DC system as it currently stands is a punishment, because it is designed to serve as retribution for the player's behaviour and encourage them to reflect on the consequences of their actions. The player may feel shame, and should, because shame is the correct emotional response to having done something wrong, but they are not being shamed, because shame is the response, not the intent. If the system were shaming players, it would be ridiculing or publicly disgracing them in some way.
When a parent punishes a disobedient child, they are disciplining the child for the good of themselves and others, so that they understand that what they did was not okay. But that punishment (at least if the parents are good parents) doesn't involve ridiculing the child or trying to make them feel worse about themselves as a person. That's the distinction between the two.

I love the idea but how would it would for a killer?
0 -
Sure, I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea. I was just explaining how it's possible, in theory, to punish someone without shaming them, because the person I was replying to didn't seem to understand the distinction and was suggesting that dealing out punishment while not wanting to shame anyone was hypocritical or contradictory in some way.
1 -
I still dont get it. Shame them with an avatar hat or shame them with bright red clock counting down...its all the same both cases are punishment for their behaviour both are shaming for their behaviour.

And show me the killer that cares about a survivor's fun? Most I encounter are super Dbags. I have no problem returning the favor in spades.
0 -
Same could be said about survivors.
Just because there are many Toxic players you want to destroy the fun if non toxic players?
0 -
Sorry but if the game decides to kick me with a fat error at the end I don’t think it would be fair plus as others have pointed out shaming is not their thing.

Put dunce cap icon next to the username like the windows store users world icon

This would be hilarious but I am pretty sure this would only lead to more toxicity knowing this community.

Literally the reason why I want DC husks. (Survivor's who DC remain in the trial in dying state or as bots like on mobile. YES on mobile DC for hatch literally doesn't work.) If you hate being slugged that much bring unbreakable. I only really "Understand" why people DC for hatch if the killer has left you slugged for minutes at a time or something. (Still not justified IMHO since the bleedout timer isn't too long, and I find it funny to crawl away and just bleed out into a corner out of spite or maybe even find the hatch. However I do understand the game can get dragged out and why someone would want to DC if they're just lying on the ground for a while.)
95% of "Tactical Disconnects" I see happen in less than 10 seconds after the survivor hits the ground. I've played against a streamer who DC'd to give hatch while still healthy. (His friend found hatch, killer was chasing streamer, he runs into a locker and DC's mid-chase, friend gets hatch, "GGEZ" in postgame chat.) I've also seen Tactical Disconnects when I down someone after a door is open to counter blood warden. If you want to take it to 11 survivors can DC on death hook to prevent the killer from proccing effects like Pop Goes The Weasel, BBQ's aura reveal, Dying Light or Huntress Lullaby from gaining a stack, etc.
IMHO it's similar to killer DCing when the gates are opened to prevent survivors from getting the escape bonus. It's scummy and the devs should find a way to stop it from happening. Rainbow Six Siege had a character who could interrogate downed enemy players and reveal the enemy's teammates to the rest of the character's team. Players would DC when downed by her to prevent the interrogation from going through. Ubisoft later patched this by having DC'd players remain in the match for a while so there's still plenty of time to do the interrogation. BHVR should fix this too because "Quit Match" should NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be a "Valid tactic" used to gain a competitive advantage in any game, ever.

I’d like it if it was applied to players that have a penalty level greater than 1 or 2. Just so we don’t have it on players that internet is bad or something happened and we’re punished. Just so we know who will most likely dc and ruin the game for everyone else.
