Underrated Perks Pt. 5: Surveillance
I'm starting a series of discussion posts about perks that I think are underappreciated and players should try using more often. For all of these posts, feel free to give your thoughts on if you agree and why, or why you think the perk is meh.
We're talking about underrated killer perks now, and one that always comes to mind is Surveillance. Players tend to sleep on this perk a lot, and it's weird to me, because it is a fantastic information perk. It requires a little work to get value out of it (you have to go out of your way to damage generators), but when you do, the moment survivors work on the generator again, you'll know. If you're not occupied chasing a survivor, Surveillance will consistently inform you which generators you should pressure. Unsurprisingly, it synergizes incredibly well with Surge, Pop Goes the Weasel, and Ruin.
Another reason the perk is really solid is how insidious it is. Survivors will never know you're running this perk, they can only suspect it when they realize you keep showing up within 5 seconds of them touching a generator. There's another perk that's good for that reason, so make sure "you're all ears" when I talk about that perk. But yeah, Surveillance is good. More killers should try using it.
What does everyone think?

I love surveillance. I've had survivor teams too afraid to touch gens at all once one person got sacrificed because thet knew piggy piggy would come for them. People do often realize you are running it, they can mindgame themselves quite hard out of a lot of gen progress because of it.

Ohohoho, this perk has helped me a crapton whenever I play Piggy or Demogorgon. It's amazing how much pressure you can create with Surveillance, because Survivors never expect you to run it. Even if you are also running Ruin alongside it to create a map full of white generators.
It's especially useful when a Survivor wants to bait you into a side of the map that has no generators and you know to just abandon them because one generator turned yellow. There's a reason my build in Pig right now consists of Ruin, Pop Goes the Weasel and Surveillance.
Definitely an underrated perk, wish I see more of it whenever I play Survivor.

I don't think it's an underrated perk. A lot of people are aware of how strong it can be with combination of ruin, surge, pgtw, brutal strength.

I only used it on spirit when old spirit beads were a thing.

Knowing which of your gens are being touched is nice, but it's hard to make use of without PGTW or Ruin.

I love using it on Freddy. You'll know exactly which gen to teleport to.

The main reason I like it is that it can heavily cut down on patrolling gens, which is a godsend for killers with no movement abilities since they won’t have to run circles around the map to find survivors. It also makes it way easier to 3-gen survivors since they won’t be able to work on the last gen without you instantly knowing.

its a very good perk, but whats the point in running it when i can run bbq

ruin + surveillance on any stealth killer is really wonderful. dedicated servers have reduced my success with sneaky gen scoops but the ones I've gotten have usually been set up by that combo.

Survivors can and will work around bbq. Theres no countering surveillance

Yes there is. Don't do gens!
Take that, thirsty Surveillance user! 🥴
