Does this Forum actually help the game/community out in any way?
Just a genuine question that came up for me, mainly because I sometimes question how necessary this forum really is. A lot of the changes the devs have made in the past isn't necessarily based on how the community feels, but rather the statistics on how certain perks/Killers are doing, and what those statistics and the context behind it means.
Freddy was the weakest, so he got reworked. Nurse was the strongest, so she got reworked. Spirit saw an uptick of performance, so she got nerfs. DS saw the same uptick in performance, so it also got reworked.
A lot of these changes aren't necessarily based on the suggestions or discussions from the community, at least from what I can tell, the main reason for changing them were not based on community feedback. BHVR changed some of the maps to a storm of people complaining about how this will create a ton of Dead Zones. Same with when they changed Ruin with people complaining that this will make Killer "impossible" in high ranks.
So, what exactly is the point of this Forum? Because lately what I've been seeing is a constant barrage of complaints with no base to support them, a lot of small cliques that effectively becomes an echo chamber within the forums, and a ton of people fighting with each other over what they think is or isn't fair about the game and even dismissing them, or insulting them in the process.
I have met some incredible people from this Forum, don't get me wrong, my current best friend is someone I met through this forum. If it were not for this, I would not have met them in the first place. And there have been wonderful discussions on what the devs could possibly consider taking the direction of their game to. Like reducing the Bloodpoint Grind, or creating giving both sides more QOL improvements that would improve the enjoyment for both sides.
But there are also a lot of people here that I feel like are just here to complain, and if they don't get people agreeing with them, then those people are "Biased", or they are an "Idiot", or they "don't know what they're talking about", or they are just an "Survivor/Killer main". It's like hearing a broken record put on repeat for an eternity.
I'm just generally concerned because it seemed to me, at least in recent days, that the Forums have stopped becoming a place to discuss about the game and more of a shouting match between people's opinions. And that isn't really productive for anyone's time, nor is it healthy for anyone's mental health.
Then again, I may just be rather naive. I am aware of how toxic gaming communities CAN be. But I would rather not see that constantly be brought up as an excuse as to why toxicity or aggressiveness or even cynical dismissiveness exists in a community.
I guess I may be asking a bit too much, sometimes I genuinely wonder if I could actually spark a discussion worth talking about that could possibly create positive change for the game. Rather than having to talk someone down from talking about actual lies as if they are the truth in an attempt to get something else changed inside this game.
Sometimes this forum is more exhausting than the game itself, and that says a lot.

It can seem that way sometimes but for the most part behavior does study the forums there has been some ideas they have got through the forums as some of the devs have admitted there will be complaint post and etc but for the most part it's still about helping the game sometimes you just gotta take a break from the forums i feel everyone does for the sake of sanity.

it can feel exhausting having to correct people over and over again that Freddy's lunge is the same.
I guess you are right, I probably should take a break from the forums for a while.

I feel you i use to be on the forums a lot but i ended up kinda ignoring the forums for a hot minute after i was jailed for what i felt was a very petty reason when it was a very simple joke that the mods and devs took personal but i also took a break because of the constant repeated forums about this and that ya know it gets tiring seeing the same stuff over and over again.

Yeah the forums do seem way worst than the game. Like if i had a dollar every time someone when, killers are all crybabies or survivors are all toxic. I would bloody be rich. Heck i play both survivor and killer. I love looting stuff and escaping while using arc in the hole and plunderers. It's like an action rpg. That or the moments you find the perfect item vs the killer you are facing, like a flashlight with add on that boost how long you can use it, when going against a hag. That or being the person who saved your team, due to looting a key. That or looting a key with the add on that allows you to keep it, even if you die. Leading to you getting a free key out of the deal. That and sneaking around, jump scaring people as ghostface is fun. Zooming around the map, for i got a need for speed as Oni is fun.
Since the majority of people i met in game are rather chill. Heck, even had people thank me for helping with their stun challenge while i was playing the killer. Thank people for getting into a locker and letting me grab them out of it. To finally get that bloody challenge done. Had trappers, spirits and endless other killers show me mercy and give me the hatch out of the kindness of their heart. Had a wraith once try and make up for the bad game, by giving me and the other person who didn't dc/kill themselves on hook a few points. That and man that guy did an amazing job well done. You did an amazing job well done. That or just fun games where everyone was just messing around and memeing. That or both me and the survivors going, yeah this game gone on long enough, drag out a bit two long for both of our liking, lets just get it over with and let them do the gen and escape. That or making someone day by giving them the hatch and seeing them be thankful as heck, when they were doing the no mither challenge. Being thank for steamers or being thanks for helping to give everyone some points due to someone bringing in a steamers or just lots of escape cakes. I have seen alot of people come to a common agreement or understanding in game. Being nice and friendly to one another. Sure every once in awhile there is that ahole. Yet they are a very small minority from what i seen. Most people are reasonable and understanding.

If the devs 100% listened to everyone then the game would eat itself. They would buff killers into 1 hit murder machines at 120% speed, and survivors would already have the exit gates open. So fun.

Maybe? I don't know.
I'd personally like to think the devs care and actually look into things people say on here and that the community here helps confused or frustrated players out from time to time, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

There's a difference between turning every Killer into Tombstone Myers and implementing stuff like colorblind settings.
There's no slippery slope here; the devs don't have to do both or neither.

Yeah to nerf boring and unfun killers.

Notice how the cliques you mentioned have yet to up their post count in here yet ? Lol

I think that the devs probably pay more attention to more informational sections of the forum, such as Feedback and Suggestions. The posts there seem more relevant and worth taking a look at, while it seems that a lot of the General Discussions forum is full of complaints and just generally goofy stuff. You know, general discussions! But, I'm not a dev, so I could be wrong.
I'm sure they're aware of what people think and don't think, since many people are free with their opinions here -- but I think they implement their changes more from actual gameplay data and statistics rather than from forum threads. And the small number of users on this forum do not fully represent the entire DbD playerbase, so that must also be taken into account.
But, on top of all that, with all the recent happenings in the world there are a lot more people at home all day, especially some who should probably be in school.... so that probably explains the increased amount of toxicity and hostility on the forums, and the increased number of discussions as well.

Community forums exist usually to give customers a place and to bind people on a product and to promote it.
And there is nothing wrong on it. People that like a game, enjoy talking as much about it, as the companie like to promote it. That goes hand in hand.
What changes matters, yeah.... Well, that is one thing in that bhvr could performe a lot better. After my experience they tend to listen only to statistics and in a small number of cases to the loudest crowd - not necessary the smartest type of crowd, usually.
Sadly not on the people that know best about what they like to patch.
