What is rank to you

Player35
Player35 Member Posts: 119

Just to make clear: Not interested in the matchmaking itself.

I'm curious what the ranks mean to the community in general. Is it something you care much about?

Do you actively try to rank up?

Did changing ranks change your outlook on the ranks themselves? Finally, what rank are you generally?

Ideally rank would BE the matchmaker in that if you win, you rank up and get placed against players of your rank. Atm it doesnt really mean anything to me. It goes up and down afew pips, but I tend to stay at 1 or 2. Under the current system, pipping just serves as a minor annoyance whenever I do "too good" and black pip for it.

rank means absolutely nothing. It means nothing to devs, since they're not fixing matchmaking, or at least trying to understand its problem, rather they are gonna band-aid the entire system, also there aren't any rewards (and for some reasons maybe it's better). It should means nothing to players either, since it obsolete, you can still derank while winning (which is something unacceptable from someone who played a lot of fighting games in the past), the game doesn't awards you for playing good, it awards you for playing how the game itself wants and that's stupid.

after I hit rank 1 long ago, I stopped even caring, it was just an achieve for me. If I play often I end up in red ranks, but its nothing more than a number, you can get really good games in green ranks too. Not everyone has the time to grind to be in red ranks every month

Contrary to what this forum tells you, being Rank 1 is definitely an indication of consistent, decent play. You can't get pips at red ranks just doing nothing or being dead all game or something.

That said, rank is just something to screw around with to me. Half the time I just derank intentionally because I try playing by the survivor rulebook, which means that I basically play Wraith and never uncloak.

Nothing really. Been rank 1 for a long time so it means nothing.

The ranking system means nothing to me since it also is extremely easy to level up. It's almost funny how easy it is to get to red ranks (in particular as survivor).

    I'll just answer the questions.

    • No.
    • No.
    • Not sure what you mean.
    • I usually hover from low green to low purple.

The higher it is, the more frustrating my matches are. I’m always stuck at rank 1 killer and man I just hate it. I go against nothing but sweat lords all the time.

I don't care if I win or lose, but do get bummed out sometimes in those, "I should have done that" moments.

To be honest I never really cared about ranks I’m just in it for The fun.

    Right now, absolutely nothing.

It's really just an indication of the number of matches that person has played within the past 2 months.

Rank gives me an expectation about how good you should be at the game and/or how much you play.

If you farm a hook in front of the killer without BT...

... and you are brown/yellow rank then it's fine you probably didn't know any better and were just hoping for the best.

... and you are purple/red rank then I question how you got to where you are making stupid decisions like that.

If you try to mind game every pallet as killer, even the super safe ones that basically become infinites...

... and you are brown/yellow rank well I don't expect you to understand the fundamentals of the game just yet, especially considering the survivors you'd normally play against don't know what looping is either, let alone know how to optimize it.

... and you are purple/red ranks then I seriously wonder how the hell you got this far playing like that. You must dodge lobbies like crazy until you get the most potato survivors, and you are most likely a NOED gamer that relies way too heavily on bloodlust to catch survivors.

I think it matters a little. When people are in their proper ranks you can tell the difference between a red and a purple.

That said once you understand how pips work, and by extension how the game works, its not hard to rank up

Rank means nothing. Just look at how many red rank survivors there are that play like green ranks.

Killer: never cared much, now I care even less. I just want to play a match enjoyable for everyone. Pipping with scummy tactics is more a defeat than a win to me.

Survivor: I used to care a lot about pipping to get better teammates. Since they kept making ranking easier and easier, and in particular after the rank reset change, I actually care to not pip too much because it's embarrassing and frustrating to be with three red rank survivors and get destroyed by a yellow rank killer with 1-2 tier 1 perks because they all go down in seconds and nobody does gens.

I agree with pretty much everyone in some way. Means pretty much nothing at this point in time. I've play against rank 10-20 survivors while playing killer and some were just amazing. and when playing survivor I've played against rank 1-5 that you could tell only got that high from constantly camping. Will be interesting to see how the change it if they eventually get around to it.

I think like most online games people mistake rank for skill, often a more accurate statement is, rank = time spent online.

You play enough games you'll usually safety pip or pip up, more often than you pip down... with enough time spent online.

Ranks are a general guide for matching players, but you'll always get those who have put in effort to be great whatever rank they are at and those who are potatoes who have been sprouting long enough to get into higher ranks. It's all time spent online.
