Taking Jason 'Voorhees' out of 'Camp Crystal Lake'.

As the majority who play DBD are already well educated with Jason's legitimate backstory, if it's covered only vaguely in the DBD character description, it won't be an issue. As long as the omissions of Pamela and the boy who (supposedly) drowned in the lake don't take away from the gameplay experience, it'll be fine.

Simply say he witnessed a murder and it changed him forever. If we can't elaborate more, it's better to keep it simple and stay as close as possible to his actual origin.
Fans know the real story 👍

2 extra options? Well the hockey mask attires are all relatively similar.
So yes, if we get bag head and Jason X as extra attires...that would be very cool.
Now there is a likely possibility we get the remake Jason, and that would still be fine. No ideal, but acceptable.

What OP is describing is basically an original character, at that point. The point of having Jason would be to have Jason, not a "just close enough" simulacrum. That's basically what Trapper already is (as is Hillbilly to Leatherface, arguably Legion to Ghostface, Spirit to Ring/Grudge killers, etc.).
FWIW, it seems like the ongoing litigation of the rights to the original movie is inching closer to being settled, one way or another. There hasn't been much movement since mid-February, but that hasn't stopped new Friday the 13th merchandise from being announced. A new board game got announced in April, slated for a summer release. Sooooo maybe there's hope for Jason to be making the rounds in DBD at some point in the future. I think it would be awesome to have a Camp Crystal Lake map (or Camp Forest Green if they must use an alternative name)... and as a formerly active player of Friday the 13th: The Game, I would be so happy to see it happen.

Its unlikely for the remake Jason to come in the game. The F13 Game devs had tried to get that Jason in their game but was unable to, as those Owners/right holders to that Jason didn't want him in a video game or something like that.
That what's the F13 devs had said and that's a entire game about the F13 franchise so if they couldn't get him I doubt DBD could, unless of course their opinion of that has changed since then.

Opinions can change. It looks like the remake is the basis for that board game. Of course, a board game is not a video game, either. There's also a chance that Gun just straight lied about it, and that the remake guys just didn't want to do business with THEM specifically. Only time will tell where things will go. Pinhead's case is getting stronger, it would seem.

Hi. It's not an original character, it's just doing without the 'forbidden' elements of the character's lore. When we say "He's not the boy in the lake, who later witnessed his mother get decapitated"...we all know he is. We know those events happened yet understand the circumstances to why they're not detailed as such.
But with others mentioning that 'Jason Voorhees' and 'Camp Crystal Lake' are apparently useable terms, the loss of authenticity shrinks significantly.
If the chapter went ahead as The Jason Voorhees Chapter, without Friday 13th in the title, we would still be getting that killer.
It would be disappointing not to include elements of Pamela in Jason's power and ability, but it would be easy scooting round the mother and drowning boy elements when adjusting the killer's lore.
It could be just described that he was left to live in the woods at a young age and that several years later he witnessed a murder.
I agree it wouldn't work to have him brought in as something like the 'Camp Slasher' or 'Masked Maniac' etc. It would need the 'Jason' name in the very least to make it authentic.

Yeah, I see what you mean now.
I don't know what the particulars of the "off limits" stuff might be after this litigation is settled, since it only pertains to the first movie. But yeah, they could find some creative ways around it in the lore, and Jason the hockey-masked killer was obviously not part of the original film. I guess we'll have to see what the ultimate legal resolution is, but they could very well wind up doing basically what they did with Ghost Face, except more true to the franchise.

Well this is the thing. There may of been more to that.
Maybe whoever holds the rights sees there is money to be made here.
Could be that the owners of the remake license didnt want their film associated with the original series in a game. But when it's proposed their version of Jason will be the sole version of Jason in a game, their opinion may change.
To be fair, the remake is a dead end film: it was brought out in 2009 and won't see a sequel. But if in some strange turn of events, turns out to be an available option, I say run with it.

It all seems rather confusing about the particulars of what can and can't be used.
This upcoming board game, which uses 'Friday 13th' and 'Jason Voorhees' just came out of nowhere.
So there are glimmers of hope.
Maybe later today we'll get a nice suprise 🤞

The 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street film was no less a dead end, and we have that in DBD. And, devil's advocate: I REALLY liked the Friday the 13th remake, it's top 3 in the franchise for me. Kane Hodder will of course always be THE Jason, but Derek Mears is a close second.

Oh yeah, it's not a terrible film. It's just hasn't got much to build on and around. If we had 2009 Jason, it might limit things like new skins etc.
2010 was the same situation. As there aren't any (and won't be) any sequels, there is less to work around.
But in any event, if that's as good as we can get, it's better than nothing.

Yeah, the 2009 Jason would have SO few options cosmetic wise to pick from. Unless, of course, the license holders just say "don't care, go nuts" then the door is super wide open. I'm gonna stop talking about this now because, sadly, with the recent evidence that popped up, I think it might be a Hellraiser chapter, which is ever so slightly disappointing but I'd rather have the disappointment now rather than later. Ultimately, it's alright.

Well yes, I just saw 'The King' do another video, this time predicting Pinhead. During which he mentioned he hadn't seen the Hellraiser films. Now there's nothing wrong with not being familiar with a franchise being included in the game: I had never seen any of Stranger Things until the DLC was revealed.
But I am long-time Hellraiser fan, and Pinhead is my second hope behind Jason. But honestly, as much as I like the character and the first 3 films, Hellraiser/Pinhead is not this monumental franchise which is universally recognized. For almost the last 25 years, the Hellraiser offerings have been low-budget disappointments. Whilst always of a better quality and of higher regard, the franchise is now similar in the handling of the Puppet Master series: several films over a short space of time, which really go unnoticed except for diehard fans.
Pinhead is a great fit for DBD, but I am not sure that the Hellraiser franchise is the huge acquisition that the majority of people have been hankering after. Perhaps on a personal level for those at BHVR but not necessarily the wider audience.
The only one that fits the mantle and the hype is Jason.
But if we get Pinhead, I would be pleased. But Jason's my number 1.

Yeah, nothing against the Hellraiser franchise or the people who want it but I've personally never cared for the franchise. Plus, I've also always seen Pinhead(let's be real, if it is Hellraiser, then Pinhead is the killer) as more of a viscous tormentor rather than a active seeking killer.

This is true, but dbd has built in lore. Similar to arguments of Predator being a hunter of the worthy, and xenomorph only being killing machines, existing entity lore explicitly states that the entity will punish a killer until it complies with its wishes.
Funny enough, Pinhead may be the only one immune to normal methods, since he gets off on torture. Then again, he delights in suffering, which a standard trial should cause plenty of. Even then, the entity could possibly deprive him of any sensations for however long it took for force his cooperation, etc, etc.
And in the end, let's face it... They don't care THAT much about making sure everything retains a logical continuity.
I should also say, NONE of the killer's are here to kill. They exist to torture the Survivors. Their primary goal is to allow hope to build and then snuff it out slowly before sacrificing the survivor to the entity. That's why moris are meant to be rare, it's supposed to be a boon from the entity to allow a killer to actually kill.

Who has the rights to Friday the 13th and who has the rights to Friday the 13th part 2...

Victor Miller created the story in the original, which was directed by Sean Cunningham, who continued to be involved with the series.
The dispute is between Victor Miller and Sean Cunningham/Horror Inc.
There are many articles on the subject. A quick google of 'Friday 13th lawsuit' will have loads which explain it in detail.

I think it's logical to say that all the killers in the game now have some connection to the Entity. None are more powerful.
Many horror icons have a ruler, influencer or higher power. The mentally damaged Leatherface was ordered about by his twisted family. Jason was encouraged to kill by his deceased mother's voice in his head. Pinhead was a servent of Leviathan.
So it makes sense that these blood-thirty killers become minions of the Entity. They're perfect candidates.
One element I do like is when the DBD lore 'brings back' a character as they die. For example, Amanda Young. After getting shot, blood leaking from her neck, drifting out of consciousness...and waking again after being intercepted on her way to the afterlife by the Entity. That works well.

You bring up some VERY good points, especially lore wise but, just on a personal level, I most certainly havemy preferred characters but that's just me

Well the main elements with a character inclusion are suitability, demand and availability. Then of course the understanding that they'll generate revenue.
I agree lore is not essential. People are buying the popular killer, not really for their backstory as detailed in the character profile.

No, I totally get it, and in the end, that's what counts for each of us. Just wanted to point out that dbd left themselves a version of Star Trek's plot-sensitive shields and warp core, basically. :)
Absolutely. Availability is pretty much king. Lore is just what it is, fun bits of flavor. If they need to, they'll find a way to wiggle around it. Your earlier statement is also good - I've also always thought it was neat that the entity snatches them just prior to death.
Anyway, guys, a few short hours, and we will know who the killer is!
