Why is James not the new survivor?

I feel like the fact that pyramid head is a manifestation of James makes James the much more logical choice as the survivor.

We won't know until we see the lore but even though I am old silent hill trilogy puritan myself I think they can get away with this lore wise. There are two ways.

One: the sh3 valet looks a lot like a feminine, unmasked version of pyramid head. They have the same sort of dress/figure, gloves and gray skin. It's possible that a valet from SH3 could be envigorated or empowered to become a PH version with the help of the dark powers of the entity.

Two: PH is a manifestation of James but considering that the town can manifest these demons on a whim, I don't see it as very hard for a dimensional controlling, death defying being like the entity to effectively just decide to "remanifest" the PH despite the terms of its birth. I think if thy do it this way though a lot of references and james sunderland centered mentality should be hinted at in the lore or little texts tid bits we get and from what I've seen some of James stuff is directly referenced in its adds on.

    Like the eggs

Why heather and not sunderland? Because sunderland is a big, beefy, homicidal machine that had his closure for his issues in SH and I think personally it would feel sort of cheap for him to be dragged back to face PH after he already defeated it psychologically. Also James story is open to multiple ends, some which involve his potential death. That kind of ruins players of sh2 immersion a little bit since we get to choose what endeding we consider cannon.

Heather fight was against her origins, her obligations, her pursuers and SH itself. She was routinely dragged into SH through no fault of her own so it makes a lot of sense that she could be dragged into the entity's dimension under the right circumstance. Also, heather in general is more of a plucky underdog with sassy grit than james is-although james is bad ass, don't get me wrong- and I think that fits a survivor role more.

Probably because survivors like female characters more

That's a bit weird to me. Seeing as character gender doesn't seem particularly important. But I do agree that this could be the reason. Just wish they could have been true to lore as a huge silent hill nerd myself.

We need more male survivors. In a row we have gotten Nancy and Steve then yui then zarina and now Cheryl/heather. We need more males there aren’t a lot of female killers so the gender dumb thing shouldn’t be a real thing just a thing inside the brain of a very questionable youtuber.

Depending on your views mine is that James In fact became pyramid head after excepting his blame and killing himself. This is Why he appears in other games also.

But it depends lots of theroys out there tbh on pyramid head quick YouTube search and enjoy your trip into them always amazing to hear them all.

I want James I honestly hated Heather tbh she's gonna trigger me so hard. I found her to be the most annoying characters in the franchise tbh but that's just my personal taste.

Cross your fingers for a James skin in the future.

Yeah I really don't care too much about the gender of characters, but I would have loved James in the game.

Also I suppose you're taking the in water ending as cannon there.

Don’t know much about Silent Hill but with the introduction of legendary skins that pretty much add new survivors maybe they saw this Cheryl as a good base for other survs from that license? This will probably be gender-locked (because of audio)

Pyramid Head isn’t strictly a James thing

It's my own head cannon makes the most sense to me especially as it would explain the existence of pyramid head after James is not around in future games.

@Flatskull I most definitely agree on the aspect of Heather fitting the role better, also on the fact that James has defeated his demons but you also can say in the same vein that the entity sort of breaks the narrative when it comes to how the power of the town works and that it could just as easily of used James as well. But with that said I do think Heather was probably a better over all choice, just due to what you said about James not working in that role.

Survivors are now 50/50, including the new chapter. That's pretty cool, hopefully it stays that way.
