Need some tips/advice with Trapper
So, I am venturing back into Killer territory since I am getting burned out with Solo Survivor. I don't plan to main Killer, but I do want some fun. I do decently well against people in my own rank (11) and okay against 6-10, but when I get put up against a swf death swat team from hell, I just feel so helpless.
By the time I place 3 traps, a gen is gone. Get in a chase, another gen bites the dust. Leave the chase, place more traps, get in another chase, two more gens pop. It's hard enough trying to hide the traps in good spots, but looking for traps makes it even more frustrating. To top it all off, it feels like I always have a Blendette shadowing me, disarming my traps.
What are some good perk set ups to use with Trapper? Can any of you lovely Killer mains link me to some good game play videos that I may learn from? Is there hope to face of these minions of hell or should I just go sit in the basement and deny them any points and let them leave faster? Are Billy, Spirit, and Nurse really the only counters to these groups?

I can't give an entire description but I have some advice.
Learn Corrupt Intervention from Plague. Blocks all but the 3 closest gens for 2 mins. Gives you time to setup. If they want to do gens they have to come to you. If they don't want to risk it and wait out intervention then that's more time for you to setup.
Whispers. It doubles for trapper. Not only does it help you find survivors but it tells you when no one is nearby so it may be safe to plant a trap without being seen.
Trap the long ass loops just to deny them from using them but most will expect that. Instead of trapping under pallets try trapping around the pallet loop in tall grass. Places people will try to loop you when being chased.
Always bring a trapper bag. Being able to carry more traps speeds up your job.
Never commit to a chase too early. You want to setup your traps before you commit to chases.
Aim for a 3 gen. Learn to let certain gens go and try to get them to come into your area that is rigged.
Whenever possible, hook people in the basement and trap the ######### out of it.
As for links. Otz has a nice guide to trapper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvTesdUvYbI
As for twitch streamers I recommend theentitylefthand and humerogamers. They are pretty good trapper mains.

First you need a bag and trap setting tools, the one that makes placing them faster.
Youre going to lose gens at the beginning, accept that. Find 3 gens, place traps surrounding that area. Every loop and several vaults. Some of them will be obvious, some should be hidden though. Think of yourself like youre a hunter trting to trap small game. Youre placing traps in the areas theyre most likely to run through while using foliage to your advantage to hide the traps. All your traps need to be concentrated in that area and you need to do it quickly.
Bbq, pop, enduring and brutal is a pretty decent build on him.
Ohtz on yt has some pretty good vids outlining this

I believe you described trapper in a nutshell pretty well. He's a pretty old killer so he has a very counterable power and multiple perks are anti trapper perks. Perks to find your traps, items to show your traps, perks to get out of your traps. Offerings to get out of your traps even. He's got a lot going against him and he's simply designed for a much slower paced game than we have.

I do pretty well with him at r1. The game slows to a halt in that last gen. He needs at least 2 traps at base though for sure. Brown bag should be base

Ya he can function but he has a LOT of things he has to worry about that most killers don't have to deal with. He's absolutely bloated with counter everything's. Any slot a survivor has can hold something to counter him independently and that should really be tweaked. Addon dependant for sure, bags being mandatory so he has only one addon slot.

Yup, very hard and strategic and real easy to lose with if youre not careful

Not to mention every killer's weakness, headsets, counters him even more. If one person see's a trap they ALL know where it is.

I think the bags are my biggest problem. I hope they just make all his bag add-ons basekit. It would save so much time and open up a slot for other add-ons.

Thanks for your advice. I have seen some of Otz's stuff, so I'll look up his videos and I'll be sure to check out the streamers you mentioned.

Since they added in the trap reset thats no longer an issue. When youre chasing them they panic and forget

I wouldn't call myself a main myself, but I've picked up a few tricks here and there. The simplest and probably one of the easiest pieces of advice you can follow is to just not put your traps in predictable spots. It's okay if you have a trap on hand that you need to get rid to just get it down and activated, in order to pick up a different trap. Other than that, I don't think it should be the main priority to just always put traps under pallets and stuff, because the survivors will pick up on those real quick. Some clever spots are for example: 1. Using patches of grass on the edges of things that survivors loop (they'll usually expect a loop to be safe if they don't see a trap under the pallet or the windows) and 2. There's this one trick I learned from Otz. The tractor that you'll see on Coldwind maps has a spot on it (the spot on the right the survivors always vault the window at, that has the ramp going downward) where you can vault the window as Trapper, turn around, and place a trap right on top of that hay bale. There's no way for the survivors to disarm the trap other than stepping into the trap. You'll just find little clever spots like that here and there that are really hard to avoid even to a decent player.
Good luck though. I like Trapper a lot and I think even though he's relatively simple, he has quite a bit you can learn with him and he feels rewarding. Hopefully you'll find him fun too.

Another trap spot that cannot be disarmed is on haddiesfield. The houses that have roofs you need to vault windows to get to. If you vault the window and plant a trap. They can't get to it to disarm it. If they use that window they will get trapped.

I love this and do it often. Good tip

Thanks, I hadn't even thought of that one. It's nice having a post once in a while like this where it's just a wholesome exchange of ideas/tips, instead of the constant "us vs them" arguments on here. :D

Isn't it? Its why I like watching funny Dbd videos on YouTube where Killers and Survivors are laughing with each other, it's a whole different side to the sweaty try hard players who think they need to prove themselves.
I appreciate all the responses and hope the community come together like this more often.

This another Otz video where he analyzes someones trapper gameplay. It's how I found out about Humerogamers. It's also pretty good for ideas of where to put your traps.
