The Amanda's Letter add-on for The Pig has been Kill Switched due to an issue with incorrect RBT count.

Can the devs do anything about VPN killers?
Half of them straight up admit it in post-game chat. It’s cheating. The people who do this know exactly what they’re doing, they just don’t care.
Realistically, is this something the devs can control? Is this even a problem in other multiplayer games, and if so how is it dealt with? It’s getting worse and worse over time as more basement dwellers realise they can get easy games by doing it, so there needs to be something to stop this #########.

The devs have confirmed on several streams they're looking into solutions for this. One of which is a server-sided sanity check, which ensures all hits are feesably possible instead of being client-sided.
Edit: Also if they're admitting to it, report them. This is cheating and they can get banned for it. Ensure you file an extra report on the dead by daylight support- submit a ticket under "Additional Player Report Information"

Not only killers use VPNs

Good job I never said that.

Does BHVR consider it cheating? I’ve never seen them actually say this, and it isn’t listed as a bannable offence anywhere as far as I know. If they do I’ll start recording and reporting.

From what I've heard, playing on other regions just to get an advantage is bannable. Playing on the same region with a VPN is not.

It's the same as lagswitching AFAIK, and is classed as an exploit.
If the report is false nothing will happen. If the report is true that'll be one less exploiter.

Really dont see how its any different though than survivors joining SWFs groups from around the globe. Was playing the other day with a guy from Germany while I myself live in the US. The game allows me to invite him into my SWF squad and that would surely lead to the killer having some...interesting experiences on at least one of us depending on which region the game managed to pull the killer from.

The difference is that hits are killer-sided, meaning they'll get some wacky hits. And it affects all 4 survivors not just the one from your experience.
Plus, the killer is doing it to gain a deliberate advantage. Survivors get nothing but disadvantages from it.

They should show the killer's ping, with this anyone could leave the lobby of killers living in Wakanda. 😂

There's supposed to be an upcoming validation feature on the backend, if it isn't partially implemented already. It might help or make it worse, I don't have the skillset to really say.
If I understand it correctly, the game will perform another check to see if interactions are really "fair". It may be that VPN connectivity could be addressed with this feature, as the validation is supposed to check a number of variables and circumstances that led up to the interaction.
It could be that it makes it worse, too. But I wouldn't know anything.

As said above, they will let the Servers do Sanity Checks AND increase the number of Servers. This should help against VPNing players.
There will still be hits which look strange, this will most likely never be avoided. But it should stop cheating by just using a VPN.

Maybe that was the case when killers were hosts, but with dedicated servers...high pings as killer means youll be rubber banded back to the same spot over and over.

Killers playing from a fictional country are BOUND to have some crazy ping, lol
0 -
Lol Dude I play on EU and certain nations don't even need a VPN for free hits. I'm waiting for new netcode and servers with higher tickrate but...it will most likely end up like rollout of dedicated servers

I think I know which countries you are referring to XD. I won't name anything, I just hope they get their own server someday.

Between the player and the VPN there’s about 80ms, then between the VPN and the server there is another 50, then between the server and the NA player there is about 50ms too so that’s like 180ms, but then all that data has to be sent back through it all so it end’s up being 360ms, but the server doesn’t know that because it only cares about the ping between the VPN (because that’s where it thinks the EU player is) and itself. So the data takes way longer to send which makes it harder to compensate the side that's being treated unfairly, unlike when you play with someone from Germany, it knows where that person is, that's WHERE that person is and it doesn't have to jump through a bunch of extra connections for the data to be transferred whereas with a VPN it does, that's why they're different.

Dedicated servers didn't really solve any of those issues. High ping killers can still hit you from insane distances and there is nothing you can do about it.
Sometimes killers also conveniently start having high ping when they can't catch me so I'm certain that some sort of lag switching is still possible as well.
These problems will only go away when they finally take the hit priority from killers and let the server decide if it actually hits or not.

The amount of times I've been accused and reported for lag switching because someone's internet acts up is uncountable.Has nothing to do with the fact that your brother is looking up some raunchy videos...nope, its definitely me cheating, lol. VPNs is the new accusation now. Honestly... I cant wait til they do their thing too, if nothing else than to find out the next thing ppl will accuse each other of.
For your examples, you claim everything weird thats ever happened is the result of the killer and whatever ping shenanigans theyre pulling. Weird hit happened? Its the fault of whoever I'm against surely. You didnt stop to find out the killer's ping before declaring them "high ping killers".

Fair enough i suppose. Also well put may I add. Still think leaving games to be played by people all over the world is bound to have issues. Me squading up with a guy in China is BOUND to cause some ping.

yes but because the servers favour the killer (at least that's what the devs have said) they get compensated, when I play with my NA friends I know I'm gunna get hit through pallets often because I'm so far away, and I'm ok with that, the issue arises because people are using VPNs because it mitigates the benefit because the server thinks you are where the VPN is when in actuality it's taking longer for the data to be sent.

I always check my ping in those situations since you can see your ping when you pause the game now and my ping is usually fine when stuff like that happens. You can clearly tell when the killer is using a VPN (or just has horrible internet) by how they start lunging from so far away and hit you anyway or how they can hit you a second after you drop the pallet in their face etc. You must have gone against killers like that as well.
I would have loved to show you the video of the "lag switching" thing but I just deleted that recently. It's just way too convenient how their connection is great at the beginning and after chasing me for ages they magically hit the air and down me. In the video I deleted for example , I turned left ages ago and the nurse kept going straight anyway , hit the air and downed me. Then after hooking me her lag stopped and it came back when she started chasing me again. Sometimes I go down so far away from the killer (in an area they can't even see) that they have trouble finding where I went down. Maybe it's just DBD being DBD but I find it way too convenient sometimes.

Funny enough I became friends with a Wraith from Germany that I somehow got matches with (Canada myself) and the ping was so bad we at one point just stopped mid match and stared at each other. I message him a gg and a meme, he message gg and a meme and we have been "meme friends" ever since.
I do not speak German and he doesn't speak English but we still group up for a few other games from time to time, basically communicating through memes.

Would be nice if it showed everyone the killer's ping on the same pause screen so you can see what IT is too when checking your own after a weird hit. Maybe then I'd get accused of less stuff. Typically when I DO have a lagspike... it results in a completely lost chase as opposed to free hits. The game teleports me back to the server's last known location and I completely lose track of the survivor I was just chasing. Not exactly something I'd want to rig to do on purpose.

Regarding this, at least I who work a lot with networks is quite easy to create several virtual networks and bounce the connection between many vpns.
Mexico (I live here 😁) ---> USA (50ms) ---> Spain (150ms) ---> USA (150ms) ---> Mexico (50ms).
= 400ms nice 😍.
{{I don't do this, I just did my tests to confirm this only once}}.
And I can do this in about 20 minutes.
Can you detect it ?, I doubt it, in the end I leave my same country.
What I have noticed is that when you ping high it takes a long time to find a lobby.
I had commented before, dedicated servers are a sham and the lag switch is easier to run.

i use a vpn and no one ever complained, i am guessing it's those who use servers that are far from their own region, these guys are most likely the issue about "vpn" killers

Some people will claim “omg your internet sucks” / “VPN killer!” over a small lag spike or expected latency, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I expect and can play around some questionable hits, but when every survivor in the match is getting hit by the killer from miles away, it’s pretty obvious what the issue is.

Using a VPN in Germany to, say, Switzerland isn't an issue. The server is in Germany and so the ping and data transmission isn't that bad.
The issue arrises from, say, players in Russia using a VPN to American servers as it gives them a massive advantage. These are the "VPNers" everyone complains about

Yeah, I suggested it, but they didn't seem to see my thread.

We can only hope but all it would take was somebody with a trash wifi and it would be same old...
True. Just had a match where m1lly couldn't get me so after 4 gens suddenly at his own convinience I got dedicated 1s after stunning him with a pallet. Then I got tunneled and suicided. Ggez skills matter in this game.

glad I am no part of the issue then

Virtual Private Network, basically it allows killers to play against survivors from another country, doing so will slow down the killer's wifi giving them hits that shouldn't be possible with low ping

This game is basically unplayable in the evening when Asian players start waking up. This is essentially an exploit, and BHVR's lack of response to this issue is an implicit endorsement of this behavior.
