    I believe the team said they wanted to take a step back from licensed killers for a bit and focus on original ideas. It would be very unlikely we would get any licensed killer from any recently released movies as the "fresher?" the character is the more expensive the license would be.

    This makes more sense too. Original killers also seem to be in general better too. Plus they don't need to contact the license holders if they want to give them cosmetics, so financially it makes more sense.

    Considering The Nun was generally panned by critics I don't think it'd be that hard to convince the studio to monetize it.
