Is this unusual?

Recently I had a match where I was the last survivor standing (well technically the last survivor on the ground lol, hadn’t been hooked yet). The killer decided to give me the hatch, but wanted me to complete gens first as a ‘challenge’ presumably I’d miss a skill check and would instead be killed like the rest.

I was successful with all my skill checks, and was then encouraged to get more blood points from the match (doing things like healing myself etc) before going through the hatch.

I was thankful for the escape and the extra blood points, but I’m wondering if anyone else has had something like this happen before? The killer challenging them as the last survivor, or being led around to get more blood points as last survivor too? Or have you, as the killer, ever done this? This is the first time something like this happened to me, so it took me quite off guard (I have been given the hatch before though).

I’m warier than I was in regards to killers giving you the hatch/letting you escape, as for the first time ever recently I was accused of teaming due to a match where a killer let me open the exit gates and escape.

Because of this, I’m worried how this experience looked, and how others would perceive it. Is this normal and happens quite a bit, or was this unusual? Have you experienced this? Does this count as teaming? What exactly is the definition of teaming? And should I be concerned?

I’m still fairly new to DBD, and learning every time I play, having new experiences often too. As I said before, this one completely caught me off-guard and had me thinking afterwards, so I decided to voice my questions on here.

Thank you for any answers/advice!

(Hopefully I’ll be able to ask a question soon that doesn’t involve me worrying)

As a killer, sometimes I will goof around. If the EGC timer is really close to the end, and I see the last survivor starting on a fully unopened door, I will stand there and go "Sure, if you can do this before time runs out, you can leave."

I am also a sucker for last-man-standing survivors who know they have no hope, and offer me a "bribe" by putting their item on the ground and then kneeling. I almost always let these people go.

Oh, and if I am carrying the last survivor, and I just happen to pass by the hatch by pure luck en route to hook them, I will almost always drop them and let them leave.

The other night, I was playing Huntress on Backwater Swamp, and I just stood around and tried to hit survivors with really long-distance hatchets all game. In post-game chat, I was like "I told you goddamn kids to fix my generators and get out of my swamp. There's gators in here! The locals practice witchcraft, human sacrifice! This month is St. John's Eve!"

They thought it was all very strange, lol.

By the way, welcome to the game and the forums, @illiumred -- let us know if you have any questions!

So to answer your questions, yes, while BP farming is not so common that you're likely to run into it in the majority of games, it isn't extremely rare either and does happen on occasion. I had a game just yesterday where a Pig did just that after having her snoot booped by the majority of the team.

As far as the game rules and bannable offences go, farming in itself is not a problem, so no, you shouldn't be concerned in this case. The only times when farming is a problem is (a) if you try to force other survivors to participate and/or punish them if they don't want to, or (b) if it was a reward for working with the killer to intentionally get your teammates killed.

I do that kind of things. When the game is not fun enough you have to spice it up. I usually put random criteria to let them leave, like hiding in the correct locker, vault an specific window, repair an specific generator... Even rolling a dice on my desk or the item they get from a chest.

Weird games are fun for survivors because no one expect them and it's more rare than the giving hatch thing.

@Rydog Thank you for your answer and the welcome! It’s interesting to see the perception of this from the killer’s side, I had been given the hatch before but never ‘challenged’ by the killer themselves in terms of getting it as the last survivor. It was a completely new experience for me, and I’m glad to see that it’s not unusual! As for that match you had as a Huntress, that must have been a marvellous sight to behold in endgame chat.. 🥳 😱

@Fibijean Thank you for your answer and explanation! I’ve heard of farming before but thought it was only something that happened during the match to all survivors (never knew it could happen to the last survivor standing). I’ve never had a killer farming within the match before, so I was even more surprised that they wanted me to farm as last survivor! Thank you for the reassurance in terms of whether I should be concerned or not, I wasn’t sure quite what this was, particularly definition wise, and was worried that I had involuntary teamed, glad to see that wasn’t the case.

As for the match you had against a Pig, I have had yet to have the snoot booped! Hopefully I’ll have that experience one day, I’m imaging it’s when the survivor points towards the snoot at close range? 😆😱

Yep, that's right. Usually the survivor will crouch down and approach the Pig, who then crouches in turn to allow their snoot to be booped. Some Pigs will even "snort" by spamming the ambush attack button to indicate that they're happy to be booped. The Pig in my match was so pleased that she came and helped us with the generators 😆

That was such a nice game, it's always nice to find a Pig like that.

@Fibijean That screenshot is a wonderful sight, thank you for sharing it! 😆😱 A picture depicting how a boop on the snoot can go such a long way!

I think I missed a chance to boop a pig in a recent match, they were crouched behind a tree and I was crouched on the other side...hearing the heartbeat and waiting for it to go away so I could go over to the generator nearby...it was only when I turned my camera that I realised she was right there! We stared at each other for a few moments, she did a few roars and then promptly downed me...I did miss a good chance to boop the snoot indeed 🤣😔

@DelsKibara Hopefully I’ll find a match someday with a pig at least looking for the snoot to be booped! 😂

@Raulillo Thank you for your answer and another insight to the killer side of it! 🥳
