BHVR let us turn off Volumetric fog
Yay, we can turn off AA again? But again onky via engine.file modifications? How about FINALLY in the year of 2020 and 4 years of developing this game... How about proper ingame settings? Can you imagine how good it would be for the entire community?
I want the basics like Vsync, AA, proper resolutions etc but I also want VOLUMETRIC FOG TURNED OFF AS DEFAULT! This is to power hungry! I'm sitting on sub 40 fps with this volumetric fog which noone needs. Without it I was stable on 60 fps. Your game is just becoming unplayable for more and more people.

Again? Sigh.

Considering fog is important enough to have offerings for you're litterally never getting that.
6 -
Volumetric fog =/= mist. It's a lightning effect and is not giving an advantage.
7 -
Has nothing to do with mist/fog you are thinking about, it's a light effect
0 -
Again what?
1 -
Np the wording of these effects can be very confusing.
Here I have a link where you can see the effect and what it does. There is picture with a slider for live comparison: https://docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Rendering/LightingAndShadows/VolumetricFog/index.html

Volumetric Fog is by far one of the largest resource drains currently being used in games. I think devs will find that many players on both PC and console will see SIGNIFICANT performance improvements if they're allowed to toggle this feature.
6 -
It's extremely weird to me that the devs completely ignore my posts. Not a single statement about that if they will look into it, considered it, planning it or not doing it. Just radio silence. This bugs me the most with bhvr. Because turning off this option is a nobrainer to me.
1 -
Have you tried posting in the feedback section of the forums? There's a lot of broken records in there and dumb posts but it has more of a chance getting some attention in there instead of in general.
1 -
The problem is visibility and optic is a part of the gameplay in this game, that´s why its problematic if a lot of people just want to avoid them, because it is giving them an advantage. Effects like that can distract you, or obscure something from you, and in this game, i believe they are meant to do that.
0 -
Volumetric fog is NOT giving an advantage. Do you even researched what it is before saying that?
1 -
I would like to turn off walls, pallets and vaults too, pls, they obscure my vision sometimes... ty
0 -
Can you explain why?
0 -
Of course he didn't
1 -
Why so salty?
2 -
cause i like it spicier
0 -
So a troll by nature, got you.

I do believe that allowing you to change the user settings from the game would allow more people to have a better experience. Even the name tells it "user setting" and you're the user. I do believe most of the people who plays on console would love to turn the autoaim off.

not gonna lie. i like a lot the fact taht they let us disable antialising again , and now i can play at decent(between 25-50) fps now , but being honest i think we need more graphic settings in general anyway obiusly focused for more perfomance ...

It's so sad, I'm suprised that the media isnt making jokes about it and ripping apart what a horrible optimised game dbd is. It's a scandal imo.
2 -
In the picture below, the one with the slide, i would argue that the effect impacts visualls, and that was my point. It might not be a lot, but it might be a distraction if you move past a light source.
To make it clear, i didnt want you to explain what it is, because i know that, i wanted you to explain why you belive that it is not an advantage to turn it of an have a distraction took away that is meant to be in the game. Because thats the point i disagree with.

@BHVR a little acknowledgement about this would be helpful.

It's sad that this thread basically got blanked.

Imagine DBD having real, normal game options in 2020.
- Proper resolution selection, instead of that % slider, whatever the hell that is.
- FOV slider, which would allow a not-insignificant population of motion sickness sufferers to play without resorting to an in-game mechanic.
- Brightness settings, instead of completely relegating it to an in-game mechanic.
- Slightly more granular volume controls.
- Colorblind options.
1 -
Right? Kinda curious how it would effect framerate myself.
0 -
It'd have more popularity, for sure. The FOV slider would probably be bad for the balance, since it is balanced around the current FOV, so the devs could increase the FOV to what it is with Shadowborn.
0 -
I see this counter-argued a lot, but this is not a roadblock for literally every competitive FPS game having an FOV slider. Dead by Daylight is not nearly as finely balanced or hypercompetitive to the same degree.
I'd rather see the various Shadowborn FOVs be offered as stopgaps on an in-game options slider, and the perk itself redesigned. Go watch Umbra play this game, she's arguably the best Huntress player in the world, and literally cannot play killer without Shadowborn due to motion sickness. It's a lot to ask a player essentially sacrifice a perk slot permanently just to be able to play the game.

How do you even remember what the menu was like for phantasy STAR...so long ago. I barely remember last week...lol

He is a baiter by trade. I don’t know why he is still here.
0 -
can someone show the difference between this volumetric fog on and off? Like a video or screenshot?
0 -
Yeah, no. Get a better PC.
0 -
I could probably remember fine details about Ultima Online if I really got into a conversation about it with someone else who played at the time.
1 -
Why should people spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade their pc if the devs can just give us fps for free with a simple setting to turn of the most powerhungry effect in the game?
Despite, what are consoles supposed to do? Slap a NVIDIA 1080TI on the ps4 or what?
U r such a bitter loser, honestly.
3 -
A bitter loser? How am I a bitter loser? I haven't lost anything o.O. Must be talking about yourself. You're the one who needs a new PC.
The fog is there for a reason, as are most of the other artistic choices in the game. To make sure everyone has relatively the same experience.
As for consoles, they should expect $400 performance. Which is more or less what they get. I play on PS4 pretty frequently.
0 -
Do you even know what volumetric fog is? Probably not, otherwise you wouldn't talk this nonsense.
2 -
It's a core part of the games ambiance. If you want worse graphics, buy a console.
0 -
... but, console not only has worse graphics, but also the framerate issues. The whole point is he wants a better framerate and is willing to sacrifice some of the graphics quality for it. Getting a console wouldn't solve his issue.
1 -
Check this out, and see for yourself. Volumetric anything only makes the graphics look better. That's it. There is no advantages that anyone would gain by turning it off other than huge FPS increase. I'm sure you won't read the whole article, or even bother to look at the images, so let me just cite this out in hopes that you read this post at least.
"Typically, Volumetric Lighting and Volumetric Fog can be some of the most demanding graphics settings found in games, full stop. Typical frame rate drops from turning up Volumetric settings vary from 5-40% FPS drops depending on the game and how intense the effects are. "
Mist =/= volumetric fog. Anyone who is against settings like this has absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Also, stop with the "Get a better PC." There are people out there who can save up 10 or 20 bucks a month at best. Stop being an entitled POS.
3 -
Wrong. Maybe try to educate yourself before talking.
1 -
Thanks for putting this kid down lol
Its really only beneficial for everyone, even for those with the best setup. But what can we expect from people who have just half knowledge and talk big
1 -
And removing the fog isn't the issue. Fixing the game is. Ball is in BHVR's court.
0 -
And you still don't know what volumetric is and what it does in dbd lol
1 -
And you still haven't said anything different.
0 -
Don't bother, he doesn't even read what we're typing. He is still saying/thinking that v.fog = mist. Just let him be.
1 -
It's ridiculous isn't it? I'm speechless at this guy. He is "hunting" me in several different topics and I legit can't handle that lol. These people are something special I guess
0 -
You're not the only one having issues with him, look: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1327497#Comment_1327497
0 -
Yeah I noticed that aswell, really crazy.
At least he is quite now and doesn't want to challenge the "volumetric fog" topic lol
0 -
Honestly, reading this and finding out more about the system at work really helps me understand why my Xbox wants to explode when playing DBD. Thank you.
Now I want this option as well.
2 -
I don't know what this 'volumated fog' is and frankly I don't want to know. Just use a clear reagant, 4heads ~
