Doctor insanity level 3 blocks escape from hatch

I tried to escape from a hatch by due to my insanity lvl 3, I was unable to. The killer just came and closed the hatch while I stood on top of it thinking it would block him the access to it, but nope... He just closes, finishes me off and carries to the hook like no sweat.
My question is, why is it possible to leap from windows, drop pallets, but not escape from hatch when you got lvl 3 insanity.

Have YOU ever tried climbing down a dark hatch while your mind was unraveling??

I mean you literally just fall, if you were insane you would plunge straight into darkness too
