Im thinking about leveling him up after i take a break from the game, but idk if hes powerful enough
Can any oni mains give me some tips and tricks and tell me how to play him at red ranks?

He`s a pretty straight forward killer and has some good potential at causing pressure, so in terms of power he`s very good.
getting his power early is really helpful so getting a hit on 2 healthy people before a down can really help, theres nothing really complicated about him. all i would say is dont bother picking up every small bit of blood, this can slow you down massively and isnt really worth it during chases etc.

He is pretty powerful, the only thing he lacks is early game pressure which he compensates with one of the best snowballs in the game.

Here is a rather good guide on Oni. Yeah Oni is weak early in game, until he gets that hit on a survivor. or if the survivors do something dumb and let Oni get two early hits, which hahahaha, muahahhaa, fun times ahead. Once Oni gets his power, he can snowball really fast, due to one shots and speed. Which helps to make Oni a rather strong killer.

It's absolutely worth it to learn Oni.
His power makes him easily a top tier killer that can compete with other strong killers like Huntress,Hag,Spirit,Billy or Freddy.
Controlling and mastering his power isn't as easy as other killers so it will take some time until you get good at him.But once you've mastered him he will be extremely strong, fun and satisfying to play.
I recommend you the Oni guide from Scott Jund.It will give you a good idea on how to use his power correctly:
The guide from int3r4ct does a great job at explaining the exact values behind his power and addons.Very educational:
Other than that i would recommend watching experienced streamers like Scott Jund,ZubatLEL,Umbra etc. to see the various situations in which you can use your power.
Feel free to ask me any questions you might have :)

If you find it fun stomping around roaring and stuff, then yeah he's definitely worth learning. ;)

Fun is all subjective. His gameplay is fast paced, revolves around slugging and snowballing. If you think you’d find that run then go right ahead. Personally I love that play style.
On my tier list I would put him at low A tier or high B tier. So he’s powerful enough to have lots of success with at higher ranks. I would put him below Billy but it’s not by a lot. He has the by far the best snowball and slugging in the game, better then Billy, Nurse, Myers and Hag. However you’ll find that 1 bad use of your blood fury can lose you the game.
Scottjund has the best ONI guide out there. He basically covers most of the tips and information you need to know but here are some the big ones.
- Oni’s early game before he’s hit someone is when he’s at his weakest. At this point he is literally just a 115% M1 Killer with no power. This means the first hit is crucial. Once you get the first hit you actually don’t want to down that person at soon as possible. You first want to just follow them absorbing their blood. You want to do this until your furry is nearly completely charged. After that you want to down them. A good way to speed up this process to force them to vault pallets and windows since they drop more orbs when vaulting.
- When using demon dash in a loop don’t hold W. Holding W speeds you up but makes your turning significantly worse in a loop. You instead want to strafe with A and D.
- With Demon Strike you don’t actually have to charge it for long. After around 1 sec of charging (which is very quick) it can 1 shot. A good way to tell this is by looking at Oni’s hand. Oni’s hand glows red once it can 1 shot.
- You can consider binding Q and E to turn left and right. Personally I don’t do this because I have find I have better control with my mouse but I know a lot of people find Q and E very helpful.
- Unless you have the Topnot Add on you don’t want to use your demon dash power around short loops.
A standard ONI build looks like: 1 Info Perk (BBQ, Thrilling, Discordance etc...)
1 Slow down perks (Corrupt, Pop, Ruin etc...)
M&A + Infectious fright combo.
This is a must for ONI if you want to play him correctly. Without infectious ONI can’t snowball properly meanwhile M&A grants 2 big benefits.
1. Makes your first hit easier due to the smaller TR
2. Makes infectious radius larger. M&A isn’t 100% required but infectious kinda of is.
One thing you should note is that it’s normal for 1-2 gens to be done before you get a hook.

Aw man, have you not played Oni yet? Easily one of the most fun Killers. It's so fun to zoom around the map. He's like Hillbilly 2.0!

Depends, he’s just a weaker hillbilly. If you wanna play for fun use oni if you wanna play better use hillbilly

yes.
Oni is such a fun killer, i love playing him - and he is also a really good one on top of that.
some will tell you that he'd just be "a weaker Hillbilly", but thats not true.
They are right in the regard that the Hillbillies chainsawsprint and the Onis Demon Dash work quite similar, however thats where the similarities already end. The thing that makes Oni unique and extremely fun is the flick you have at the end of your Demon Dash - that basically allows you to make a 90° turn and attack around corners - this has a huge potential throughout chases, as you can play around loops a lot better than a Hillbilly can and you're able to make some insane maneuvers with him.
And when you're out of charge, Blood Orbs are an amazing tracking tool that is unique to him!
also one thing i would like to add:
many people say that "slugging is required to play Oni" - it isnt. it is true that you are going to lose your power when you pick up a Survivor, however your power bar will not be emptied, but instead pause at the percentage you were at when picking up the Survivor. this allows you to activate your power when you see someone, down them very quickly, pick them up immediately and then have very easy access to your power again, as you're only missing ~30% of it.
if you instead slug, you're basically going for a gamble: you have a chance to get a great outcome with multiple downs from it - or you can end up losing it all and having to restart from scratch. and especially the process of charging up of your power is painful when you did use all of it at once.
so imo slugging with Oni is situational - it can have a great payof, but it can also backfire. I'd say as long as you dont have someone in your direct surroundings, slugging with him is not worth the risk and you should instead cancel your power yourself to get it back the next time it counts.

If you do learn him I strongly recommend you stay away from his topknot ad on during the learning phase otherwise you might cripple yourself when you run out of them. Get good at him with his lower tier ad ons then once you feel you are comfortable with him then use his stronger ad ons.
