Phantom Skill Checks - Devs/Mods
The scenario
- Working a generator
- Killer starts coming your way
- You want to stealthily sneak away
- Let go of the button and immediately hear the skill check sound
- Since you are no longer working on the generator no skill check appears on screen
- You "blow" the skill check despite the fact you never got to see it
This wouldn't be a big deal if not for the fact that a blown skill check in the above scenario alerts a killer that was already close in the first place to exactly where you are
This has been a problem since day 1. I'm curious why this still happens. Is it an impossible problem to fix? Is it simply that it's not considered important? Just curious because it's extremely frustrated to be penalized for something that is both 100% unavoidable and 100% not my fault.

The weirdest part about it, is sooometimes it doesn't blow. Sometimes you hear that sound the moment you leave, and it's no problem. I still don't understand how the hell the game even handles this. Its clearly busted. Disappointing it's rarely even been acknowledged by devs for this long. Or if they have, I never heard.

Its so weird to how often it happens. I see it constantly when i play killer and happens WAY to frequently when I play survivor.

Its similar to the skillcheck popping the same time a survivor gets hooked....feels like its every damn time.
Its all RNG of course, but because it affects us in a negative way we notice it more and thus create the perspective its more common than it actually is.

I have never seen a dev even comment on posts about this or the fact they have terrible servers.

I agree, That's what prompted me to post about it when I did. I had just finished a match where it happened 4 times in the same match. The fact it happens is annoying enough, but the fact skill checks seem more likely to happen the moment you stop a gen repair makes it worse.

You may well be right. The thing I notice though is something like this. Working on a gen and have not received a single skill check. The moment there is another noise like a survivor getting hooked or something I get a skill check where the noise is masked. Maybe I do just notice it more. But it definitely feels like skill checks are much more likely to happen at times when they are either impossible to hit, or the noise is masked by something else.

This happens to me ALL...THE...TIME!! It's like it knows the exact moment that I'm about to stop the repair and boom! Failed skill check and the gen blows. Drives me nuts!
