The number one rule to be a Rank 1 Killer
I'm a Rank 1 Killer and Survivor Player.
In my Survivor games, the easiest way to tell a red from a purple is their commitment. If you hit people and leave most of them, you aren't going to have the pressure you need to win games. You can tell a good Killer apart because they rarely injure people that they have no intention of downing and they can commit to full chases that get them reliable downs. Perks like Pop and BBQ only start the momentum rolling with constant downs not just injures

I think it really depends on the situation largly. If i walk up on a gen that has 3 people on it everyone is catching hands.
If an injured survivor is managing to stay just oit of reach for a couple of tiles im breaking chase and going after someone else.
I think good killers do whatever is best for the scenario and are good because they can recognize the situation

That's true, different situations have different outcomes if they give you free hits take them. My point is that at some point you have to commit. Especially early game, you're gonna lose a lot of generator progress regardless of what you do so getting the first down to get your perks rolling is important. When I run Corrupt Intervention, my goal is always to have the first two downs before the perk runs out. It keeps me honest with my performance

Depends on the killer, perk, survivor. Multiple injured can be useful if you have sloppy, thanat, if you’re Freddy putting people to sleep.
i would say the number one rule is locate the weaker links, if one person is a great looper at a good spot leave him

Feel like this is just troll advice. Telling people that skilled killers get tunnel vision on 1 survivor at a time is just untrue.

Don't know rank 1, but in the ranks down of it, can it be pretty dangerous to tunnel just 1 guy. If you need too long for it, the gens going to your left and right up.
Imo, its better to injure them and if you feeling that the gens going too fast up - to tunnel the weakest player down. Not because you like to kill him, - just because to set the survivors in the "hook-unhook-hook..." cycle.

This is the complete opposite of what a good killer does.
You can tell it's a good killer by how they don't over commit to chases and keep spread pressure.

Yeah the advice does sound odd. Since normally the issue you see with killers, is focusing two much on a single target. Which is why the advice to not commit to overlong chases is often given and learning to jiggle. That or not to chase a survivor to far, if they are going to a place where there are no gens.
Like to bring up ghostface, one thing that you will commonly see someone who has some skill with the killer, is 99% someone for later. Which sloppy is common on ghostface, so being able to jiggle and get people injured, can help to slow down the game a great deal, if the survivors are the type that like to heal up. Combine with nurse calling, another perk that is good on ghostface and other sneaky killers. Well, sneaking up on someone when they are out of position and have no idea you are right behind them is fun. That and generally having many survivors injured, leads to them being easy pickings to take down or just as said before, can help to slow down the game, for a fair number of survivors love to heal up and don't like to be injured. That or to use Oni, getting two early hits, thanks to the survivors grouping up, is a divine wind. For you will be able to get your power super early on and start snowballing.

Im a red rank and one thing I like to do if i see 2 survivors and I know one of them has self care is hit the one with self care then chase/down/hook the other one and go back to pick off the survivor who is inevitably self caring behind a rock.

Overcommiting is like the biggest point of failure for a killer. Is this troll advice?

Only killer that can really 'jiggle' is clown. Maybe plague but she would probably lose some parts.

I'm rank 1 and I take free hits all the time. For killers like Spirit and Ghostface it is super good (especially because I run Sloppy on both).
I think a better determination of a good killer is when they know to commit or not commit to a chase. A killer that appears indecisive is likely a low rank killer. A killer that make decisions quickly and commits to them fully is a high rank killer. Also a killer that knows how to prioritize actions and/or does actions efficiently/optimally is a high rank killer. Low rank killers act in the moment. High rank killers are always planning the next 5 or 6 things they are going to do. This is easiest seen with Huntress. A good Huntress will reload immediately when they get the opportunity. A bad Huntress will half commit to a chase then give up to reload.

It really depends on the situation. With 4 gens left i chased someone around the perimeter of groaning storehouse. Was playing huntress amd they had sprintburst and i took a wrong turn. Finally m1'd them down and still had 4 gens left. I knew i had the time based on how they were playing. Not that im a good killer really.

I was going to say a rank 1 killer knows to never give up, no matter how the game is going. Recently I've been shocked by the fake rank 1s I'm seeing..

Yeah sometimes i wish it took longer to get through the lower ranks into the higher ranks. To help give people more experience and make them ready for the high ranks. Since it just seems like you blaze through the lower ranks with a mere snap of your fingers. I gave someone the hatch as killer and the game goes, you played well enough to get merciless killer, when i shown mercy and gave the last person the hatch. :P It does at times seem like the game just forces you into the higher ranks, even when you know jack about how to play survivor or killer effectively.

but i think make another survivor to injured state while you chasing another survivor is a good pressure especially when you're the oni, they have to do the gen while being in exposed state or have to heal which it's wasting some time

So getting tunnel vision on a Survivor is a good thing now? I thought you were supposed to try and spread the pressure by trying to hit all nearby Survivors, not overly committing to a chase, and keeping an eye on multiple gens at once.

Yeah it more a coin flip, if you will get good/decent team mates or not as a solo survivor in red ranks. Saw a meg, who turn out to be a rank 4. Who would walk around in circles and be scare to death of touching a gen, until it was almost finish. Like only me and the other person, who i think was a Yui. Were the only people doing gens. While both of the megs were just acting like rank 20s, yet somehow got to red ranks.
That or a Jane who just kept jumping in and out of lockers, they didn't even have head on. They were a rank 2. Even did the classic ds into locker trick, after getting unhook. Heal them up, only for them to jump in and out of a locker again. Only me and one other survivor were doing gens. With the third person, kept trying to help the Jane and kept getting screwed over by them. I have no idea how they made it to rank 2, if that is how they normally act in a game. Like this is just a few stories i have from solo adventures as survivor. Sometimes you know the game is just going to end poorly, before it even reaches that point, just due to how your team mates are acting. Which does make me wonder, how many killer have reached red ranks or be forced into them, due to facing questionable survivors.

So you play solo survivor, get questionable teammates, then play with a good player.. what do you do next?
You add them to a swf squad since they are reliable. Then killer complain about the amount of really good swf teams.
I remember this vividly. Me and my 2 mates played against a rank 1 spirit main. I'm not joking when I say they weren't a rank 1 killer. After ruin was destroyed and 3 gens popped they just gave up and stood in the corner.
They were streaming so I decided to watch their next game. The team made this person look like a million bucks. Never fazed during chases but they somehow made this game into a competitive game where the killer got 3 kills and one got the door. Shockingly 2 rank 1 survivors and 2 other red ranks.
I just thought to myself "so this is why people think rank 1 swf teams are op".

Well solo survivor does make for interesting stories and does force me to learn how to be a better survivor and loop the killer better. Which yeah, that is why anyone who plays with a team. It's very understandable. For at least you have some consistency with how bad or good your friends are and know what you are getting into.
What what. Nani nani? I think my brain just fry upon reading that. A spirit main, who is rank one. Who plays spirit more than any other killer, doesn't use their power during chases? Like i don't even play Spirit that much myself but even i was able to figure out, oh yeah using your power during a chase is a good idea. Like playing survivor and going against spirit, should teach you how useful her power is during a chase. So how did a Spirit main not figure this out? Which yeah, sounds like they gave up way to early. I have had games as killer, come down to the final three gens. Which would lead to turning the game around back in my favor.
Which yeah, the second part of that, does explain how they made it to rank one. Boosted animals all around.

It was worse because they relied heavily on ruin. They run it and surveillance and were relying way to heavily on it.

Yeah that why i like trying out different builds and perks from time to time. To ensure i never end up relay to heavily on any certain perk or combo of perks.

If it was troll advice, Legion would win the game using Frenzy only because they can pressure multiple Survivors even if they're not getting downs.
Its not. Committing to chases and focusing on downs wins games, not injuring everyone. You'll never get rolling with perks and momentum otherwise.

Of course you need to get downs, but spreading pressure and injuring ppl helps slow the game and keep ppl off gens. To use your example of Legion...it would be incredibly stupid to only use your power to injure 1 person and then swap it off to chase as an M1 killer rather than use your power to injure everyone you can before picking someone off. This is the most basic of things for newbie killers to learn is to avoid getting tunnel vision and losing sight of the rest of whats going on.

Sometimes that's the right call on Legion. My favorite build is Cold Dirt+Joeys Mixtape to reduce the Frenzy fatigue by 25% because it works on every map and against every playstyle. Getting a borderline free hit and following them to trap them at a loop and continue the chase good value.
Injure multiple people if they're grouped, but if its a big map or they're playing split its much better to commit than try to chase someone you see with Killer instinct at the edge of the range. That's a call you have to make. When you could chase other people, but you realize that committing to the down is more important then getting greedy and potentially losing all your pressure.

Thats the thing though...obviously your not gonna chase after a hit that you cant make. You should focus on inflicting the damage you CAN make. If I can stab 3 other people while chasing a 4th... I'm gonna do that instead of JUST focusing on chasing 1 person as he runs from pallet to pallet and then complain I got gen rushed. "I chose to chase a single guy the entire map and completely ignored his 3 teammates as they finished the gens...plz remove the pallets so I can take down that single guy I'm tunnel visioning so intently on easier".
