[Story thread] Why you need to break those totems
As promised, here's the second story thread.
We were up against a Ghostface on the Wretched Shop. My build is a bunch of aura reading perks, but, fortunately, he didn't seem to use his stealth much, so I was able to keep an eye on him most of the time.
He got a good start, managed to down and hook multiple people, myself included, but we kept pumping out gens. We (me+SWF teammate) also destroyed every totem we could find, but, as usual, the others didn't.
Last gen pops, Nea goes down, we get the notification about NOED. After he hooks her, I finish opening the gate that Jeff left at 99% and we escape, because we're not suicidal and would like to escape.
Jeff stayed behind to try to mount a rescue without even finding NOED first. Obviously he died and then who does he blame? My SWF teammate and I, naturally, because we didn't go on a suicide mission alongside him.
I told him we weren't going to try to unhook against an active NOED and that if he didn't want Nea to die, maybe they should've tried to destroy some totems.
Moral of the story: break those ######### totems, for the love of the Entity.

OR leave unless you have BT/Deliverance/DS to save your ass when the killer downs you.
Another tactic that works pretty well against NOED is destroying the very hidden totems during the match, and leaving the obvious ones for the end in case the killer has it.
My favourite thing to do tho is starting to work on a dull totem a few moments before the last gen pops. When you see it ligthing up right before breaking is SO ######### SATISFYING.

I break every totem I came across, as I am greedy for bloodpoints.

I love totems! Its like a little vacation from the game cause the killer hardly comes around them lately, when I clean them.
I like to imagine im on a tropical vacation as I clean them..humming to myself and smiling.. 😊

This is why I love Detective's Hunch. Makes totems super easy to find.

I had a match on Badham with randoms. I destroyed 4 totems. End of match teammate gets hit with NOED and hooked in killer shack basement. I go looking for the totem. I find it in the house with the basement right next to the gen - the gen that the hooked teammate completed by herself at the start of the match. Know she completed it by herself because I was with other 2 on opposite side of the map - one was hooked, one was being chased, and I was going for hook save. She could've taken few seconds to quickly cleanse it, instead by the time I cleansed it she was nearly at the end of struggle (guessing she attempted escape). I went and opened exit gate after cleansing since I wouldn't make it to her anyway, the other two came running over shortly after and we escaped. She was sacrificed on first hook because she ignored the totem right next to her.

Only YOU can prevent NOED fires.

Yes, but actually no.
I tend to leave exactly 1 totem (assuming I can keep track) so that I can be next to it when the 5th gen is about to pop.
I know how demoralizing it must be for the killer to have NOED active only to instantly get destroyed.
I don't use NOEd as a killer simply because I personally don't enjoy it, and as a survivor I too feed on lost hope!

The killer had NOED and BBQ. I'm opening the gate and GTFOing. If you don't want me to leave, maybe you should cleanse some totems.

Oh I get so angry when I've cleansed 2-3 totems and no one else on my team has. My SWF and I are p good at keeping track, but when I solo, that doesn't happen. If I've died already in the match and I'm spectating and the remaining survivors get hit with NOED, I feel a little joy in watching them go down for not doing their share of totems. If I go down for the same reason because I'm still alive at the end, I go "why me??" and get annoyed at them lmao.
But in the endgame, I'll definitely go on a little NOED hunt before trying to leave to see if we can make that late save, but sometimes the smart decision is to just go.

You have a point. I personally like going against NOED because it gives me adrenaline. It feels like a challenge, racing against time lol.
