What's up with the large amount of LGBTQ posts all of a sudden.
I dont understand it that much. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but this is a game about doing gens and murdering people. Why should the gender/sexuality of these characters be so important. The characters in this game dont even speak. What is the need for them to represent certain sexualities?

There is no need, but the devs figured since they were already doing it for straight characters, they might as well do it for non-straight characters as well. Outrage culture did the rest.

BHVR sent a Tweet a few days ago talking about how it wasn't something they felt should be in the game (as they wanted the characters to be basically templates for the player) but decided now that they can't do that anymore. It sounds like they plan on adding that info to every character now as they feel they can't just ignore it like they had been in the past.

The problem was that they had mentioned hetero sexual relationships in the past despite saying they intentionally don’t want to mention sexuality at all.
now after feedback and questions from the community (high amount due to pride month) they revised their statement and said they won’t exclude LGBT+ in the future.

What also confuses me is when people ask for more representation in horror stuff and then they say it's racist that character gets chopped up into bits. You want a LGBTQ person in a horror game, fine. You have to accept the fact something bad will most likely happen to them given the genre.
8 -
Who said that? Please point them out.
6 -
When IT chapter 2 came out. The opening scene a homosexual couple gets the ######### beat out of them, one gets thrown off a bridge and eaten by Pennywise. Some people were claiming that was racist despite the fact it was in the original book back when King wrote it in 1986.

I meant in DbD. We're on a DbD forum discussing DbD.
However, I heard about that and it was a handful of people complaining. Barely worth mentioning and not representative of any group. My gay boyfriend and I found the scene accurately portrayed what it's like to be LGBT in certain parts of the world.
11 -
Accuratly portrayed how people treat lbgt or accuratly portrayed being eaten by a evil clown?
9 -
Not the clown part, obviously (although Gacy would've fit the bill if he'd been a cannibal).
0 -
pride month?

In DBD or outside DBD, my point still stands. If you want someone in here to represent a particular group you need to also accept that character will be
Hit with a machete
Hit by a chainsaw
Mauled by a blunt object
Impaled by a hook
Have a RBT on their head
Get sent to a cage
Have a finger chopped off
ect
If the devs come out and say Dwight is ghey I don't want to hear Dwight mains get bitchy when I hit them as killer and they say I'm sexist.

Let's hope we dont get a last of us 2 situation here.
2 -
If they're representing more LGBTQ characters because of pride month why is that the only month that gets representation?
2 -
See, my point is that I haven't seen anyone say otherwise, which is why I asked you to point out who'd been saying these things. Otherwise, it just looks like you're arguing with a strawman.
2 -
What happened with TLOU2?
It's not the month that gets representation, it's the people. I'm not sure what you're asking.
1 -
and also, not more, they're starting, and just a rainbow logo and sme emotes aren't really a repesentaton but they actually influenced the lgbt+ into the game which is the right way to show support to us.

Basically. The last of us one was already a game known for having gay characters but they weren't forced and actually made sense to the plot and story. a few leaks for the new game show that LGBTQ plots are being forced into the game with them making no sense to the story. The game also shows heterosexual characters as "bigot sandwiches" and portrays straight white Christians as evil.
1 -
Yeah ik when pride month is and the lack of representation in the game but why is that the only month that should have representation in the first place? It seems likes they're only prioritizing pride month right now to make a few bucks.

I mean
- Its pride month
- They made a tweet basically saying that they will add gay characters into the game

What are "LGBTQ plots"?
Also, the vast majority of characters in post-apocalyptic scenarios that aren't actively helping you are portrayed as evil, it has nothing to do with them being straight, white, or christian. Sounds to me like some people just aren't familiar with the genre.
1 -
Eh no not really. One of the main factions in the game is Christian but the game puts emphasis on them being Christian straight and white. This sounds like a joke yes but the game pretty much vilifies them for no reason. Theres alot of characters in the game that have no reason or add anything to the plot but seem dropped in just so they can have another gay character. The writing team adds them in but gives almost no plot to them.
3 -
Sounds like they were going for a KKK parable, then. Writers do that sometimes, like how the Empire in Star Wars is based on the Nazis.
EDIT: Still waiting to hear what "LGBTQ plots" are, though.
1 -
I mentioned them. The many characters that are put into the game just for being gay and add no actual story or reason to the game.
2 -
Every game has characters that add nothing to the plot. It's called "filler". The first one had them too, you know.
Also, just for the record, you said "plots". I expected literal story arcs (maybe side-quests or something).
1 -
No not really. As far as leaks and reviews show about the story being bad some of these characters literally have no plot or story arcs besides them being gay. Almost every character in the first game had a reason to be there tess helped deliver ellie sam and Henry helped them escape the hunters and bill guided them through the town.
1 -
Just focusing on Bill, who is the one I remember best, he helped guide them through his town. If he'd been absent or dead, the story would've progressed the same way: you would've killed some infected, put the car together, and left. He adds nothing of value to the story.

2 gay Nurses?
Does Nurse attract gays with her aura of power? She is like Bayonetta for DbD.

Hey dude, is it good? Is the movie good?
1 -
Whose arguing with a strawman here? I stated a question and your nit picking every single detail. Asking for who, what, where, why and when. You are practically responding to every post on this thread. Are you the Alphabet Police?
2 -
uhhhh, it was better than the 2nd half of the original TV movie but I still think the book tops it.
1 -
I didn't say I was gay, I said my boyfriend was.
3 -
Generally books are better than movies anyways, so I'll watch it. Thanks!

You can’t say that, you will confuse them
2 -
You didn't state a question, you made a statement. Here it is:
What also confuses me is when people ask for more representation in horror stuff and then they say it's racist that character gets chopped up into bits. You want a LGBTQ person in a horror game, fine. You have to accept the fact something bad will most likely happen to them given the genre.
I simply asked who had been saying these things about DbD. Excuse me for being curious when you referenced people whom I hadn't seen or heard about. If you were just speaking hypothetically, you should've made that clear.
1 -
Racist? You mean homophobic right?
4 -
are you asking that in a videogame forum?
1 -
So its weird to ask for representation of other topics but its perfectly fine to ask for representation of a sexuality in a video game forum?🤔
0 -
Actually no. Just played through Bill's town a few days ago. If it weren't for his knowledge of the car parts aswell as him saving ellie and joel they wouldve both died.
0 -
Its almost as if you think LGBT representation is above everything else...
0 -
I got called several times by salty survivors/killers the F word for my pfp. I wouldn't mind them getting a bit influenced about all this. I like how much support dbd is putting in many ways and this one was the best.

I think this is great. More representation is always good. Though I don't think Behavior understand their audience, the Dead by Daylight fanbase is a reactionary hellscape. Anytime someone points this out, they're shouted down, talked over, and belittled; I'd go as far as to say that it's worse here than it is on reddit
2 -
Adding more influence into the game tho would honestly make those people do it more often. People dont exactly like those elements being forced into areas where they shouldn't be.
0 -
Since when shouldn't LGBT characters be in video games? And why would we want to capitulate to people like that?
1 -
Literally no one said lgbt characters shouldn't be put into games. LGBT characters whose entire point in being a character is that they're LGBT shouldnt be in games. There shouldnt be a character in any game whose only reason to exist is because of a sexuality. Whether its hetero or homo. It's a game.
3 -
I know when I see a video with the title "It Triggers the SJWS" I know upon viewing I will lose several braincells. The issue with the opening scene was that it was gratuitous and added absolutely nothing to the movie, it exploited a very real issue for shock value. There's also the issue of queer representation in film being mostly tragedy, an example being the Kill Your Gay trope.((I would suggest googling that as it'll answer most of your confusion)) You could have simply had Pennywise devour a member of the pair then be done with it.
Eh, people have been criticizing King for a while and just because it wasn't an issue then doesn't mean it shouldn't be an issue now. People form hindsight and have critical thoughts about things. It's what....smart people do? It's how we improve as people. To not discuss pop culture and the politics featured is honestly anti-intellectualism.
2 -
Yes, someone did say that. Specifically, you.
People dont exactly like those elements being forced into areas where they shouldn't be.
Moving on, nobody likes that, but the fact that some characters we already have are LGBT and nobody noticed means that's not how the devs did it. So why all the complaints?
1 -
It's almost like Behavior Studios wants to make money and you're not their only demographic...🤔
Seriously the forced diversity argument has always been ######### stupid
2 -
What's offensive is that people seem to believe that there needs to be a "good reason" to explore a fictional characters' sexual preference. It's just additional information about the character for the lore, regardless of whether it's needed or not.
Was it important to inform us that Jeff Johansen was an only child, or that he had at one point worked in a video store? No, but no one complained.
Was it important to inform us that Yui Kimura was a feminist in support of women who have been abused or stalked? No, but no one complained.
I could go on and on about each character.
There's so much information from the lore that are completely unrelated to the gameplay of "fixing gens and murdering survivors" but no one bats an eye.
Yet suddenly there are people being triggered about a fictional characters' sexuality being known. Why is it less important to know a characters' sexual preference than to know what they had for their high school jobs?
