ever think about things from new player's perspective?
i think about this a lot. many of the things that veterans think are weak or stupid are just weird or crazy when you're just starting out.
like Legion for example. "how did he find me?", "why did he just hit me and leave?", "whats this crossed out plus? why aren't you healing me, i cant be healed? why?", "WHAT?! Killers can vault over pallets too?"
its just fun to think about what stuff used to be or would be confusing to someone new. whats some stuff you think would confuse the heck out of brand new players, or confused you when you started?

Nurse's Calling confused me as a new player.
I was always like "How do they know I'm healing behind this specific rock!?!? It's like they can smell me or something"
Same with being "Exposed". I didn't understand it until like 3 weeks in. I just figured the game was buggy or people were cheating. lol

When I was new and read the Decisive Strike perk the line "you use whatever is in your hand" I thought meant you needed an item in your hand to use it so I never used it. I knew about Franklin's and thought "I don't want killer hitting things out of my hand or myself using up an item so I can't use DS."
I also didn't realize Borrowed Time was a perk. I thought that when survivors would take me off the hook in front of the killer it was an automatic thing. Definitely got some people killed as rank 20 with that move.
Hag traps scared the crap out of me the first couple times because I didn't know you had to crouch to avoid them.
I thought you were supposed to attempt escape because in the tutorial you do that before someone saves you. I was a 2 hook death for awhile.
Exposed I thought the killer could see your aura to insta down you.
First mori I was confused what was happening then I found out if they have the offering it can happen after a hook. Then I was downed and mori'd midgame by a Hag and was like "I haven't been downed once!" and that's when I found out about Devour Hope. Then against Mikey I was running and he grabbed and mori'd me, I was extra confused because I hadn't even been hit that match. 😂

I remember the old versions of the game where becoming exposed didn't give the HUD icon nor the little screen shake. You just had to have the game sense to realize the intense version of Halloween's theme meant you could be oneshot, or that the killer had NOED, or DH. At the time I thought giving the survivor the icon was too much information...that being said, with all the different possibilities now and different statuses and whatnot, I do think it was kinda necessary, even if I miss the general feeling of dread when someone got oneshot and you weren't sure why.

I remember getting to rank 1 extremely quickly as survivor (this was after they fixed the glitch where you were reset back to 20 everytime you log off the game). I never understood how Billy was a 115% killer. Other killers who can cross the map quick like nurse and hag were only 110%. So since I was a "rank 1 survivor" I thought "why is it fair him being so fast and having this much map pressure".
The other thing it took me time to understand was that Nurse was the best killer in the game. When I played it was only P3 Billy and P3 Doctors at rank 1. I assumed Billy was the best and since I hardly saw Nurse she wasn't that good.

I've introduced a lot of friends to the game. Listening to them react and ask about stuff is my favorite part.
"Exposed? Does that mean the killer can see my aura?"
"Why is Michael just staring at me?"
"How come the killer always find me while I'm healing?" - Nurses Calling
"How did Legion know I was in the locker?" - Killer Instinct
"How do I use my instaheal?" - Back when they were a thing
My personal favorite doesn't really have to do much with being confused, but...
"Bubba is so OP! He can down in one easy hit and can down multiple people!" - He still hasn't learned to split up or go for vault when Bubba chases him
There really are a couple of things the devs should explain better for new players. Probably rename Exposed to Vulnerable or something, since Exposed is a very misleading name. Also I don't think many new players knows what "Secondary Action" means when it comes to the former instaheals.

I do. I imagine a guy arriving, looking to all the grind he will need to get all perks from all chars and then uninstalling the game and googling "steam refund"

This game was frustrating as a new player, even playing against my friends. I remember very vividly getting healed and my friend (killer) said "you guys know I can see you, right?" and i shouted "NO, HOW WOULD I KNOW THAT!??"
This game doesn't explain anything to you. What is hemorrhage? What is broken? Exposed.. does that mean he can see me? It gives you some clue about the killer you face during the loading screen, but not enough details for more complicated killers. I enjoyed the game enough to pour through the wiki and learn everything. To make things worse, there are SO MANY perks and addons. KYF is overwhelming for your first time.

When I first started I was absolutely terrified of the killers and I didn't know what half the parks were. I was mainly interested in Meg's perks because I was all about the hiding (Quick and Quiet) and the distance (SB and Adrenaline).
I didn't know fast-vaulting into lockers would expose my location but half the time I was playing I had no idea I was using Q&Q and what it's function was.

Shiiiiiii, I've been playing since February and I STILL don't know what all those fiddley little symbols on my screen mean.
I've either figured out or looked up most of them at this point but I still see things that make no sense to me.
The game does diddley to give anything but the very barest of instruction. Most of the knowledge and tricks I know came from random wikis or videos.

i played for a while, stopped and then started again recently, so still pretty new. it takes ages just to get a handle on the basics let alone all those other bits - I've learnt loads just reading above so thank you all :D.

This is a very good point. The first few times I played I was so confused I didn’t play for a few months. Then somehow YouTube decided DBD content was good for me so I watched and learned that way.
You shouldn’t need outside assistance with just the basics

It took me FOREVER to realize exposed meant they could down me in one shot and not that my aura was revealed.

I've been playing for less than 6 months, so... frequently. I got pretty lucky though. My first games on both sides were in a Kill Your Friends so I was able to go through and read all the text on the perks in the game instead of on a Wiki.
However, some of these I feel deeply. Exposed absolutely sounds like the Killer can see the Survivor and not that they can one shot them and because of that I briefly ran Noed on Huntress and thought it wasn't working because I couldn't see the survivors after gens were done. The first game vs a Tuft of Hair + Tombstone Myers was... an experience. I still occasionally run into people that do not know how Legion functions despite getting to rank 9ish.

You just gave me the idea of play on another account to face noobs and then ask what they think

Ive had people accuse me of wall hacking until I explained to them how whispers worked.

"I have to do what to unlock all the perks?"

Forgot ALL the perks, just enough to make a standard build is gonna take millions of points
