Settings Menu Overhaul Idea
Something that has annoyed me for quite some time now and got worse with the recent HUD scaling change/bug is how bad the settings menu is.
Simply, players like to have control over many aspects of their game for customisation and I want to present my ideas for a settings menu overhaul.
Split the menu in to 4 major categories:
- Gameplay
- Video
- Audio
- Controls
Gameplay:
- Performance Icons - We have the lobby ping rate next to the chat, as well as the survivor ping rate in the in-game Esc menu. I suggest we have the option to see our FPS and or ping rate on our screen while in-game without needing to go to the Esc menu. Also show us the Killer's ping rate in the Esc menu (without showing their name/killer chosen).
- Chat Swear Filter - There's many many salty people in this game, something like a simple global swear filter for the chats would be a nice choice for some people. Have it enabled by default with the free choice for each player to turn it off and on as they will.
- Language - Same as now.
- Hide All Tutorials - Same as now.
- Cross-play - Same as now.
- Privacy Consent - Same as now.
- Skip Opening Films - As it says, allow us to skip the opening films going straight to the main screen. It's not a major thing, but a nice to have, players appreciate small choices like this one. At the moment we can do so by pressing Esc/Space but being able to bypass that completely would be very nice. We can't rename/delete the .mp4 file as EAC throws a hissy fit at us.
- Streamer Mode - A setting that blocks the names of other players, used by those live streaming/recording for privacy reasons. Replaces usernames with character names + number, or a blank space.
Video: It's shocking we have so little choice.
- Fullscreen / Borderless Windowed / Windowed - Allow us to pick 1 of these 3 choices
- Resolution - Allow us to pick exact resolutions to run the game at. Get rid of the percentage slider we currently have and using our operating systems resolution.
- Resolution Scale/Pixel Count - Let us pick what percentage of our resolution scale/pixel count.
- Aspect Ratio - Let us pick the aspect ratio we want. 4:3 / 16:9 / 21:9 etc...
- Monitor Choice - For those with multiple monitors, allow us to choose which monitor to output the game to.
- HUD Scale - The scaling of the HUD (needed more than ever after 4.0.0 update)
- HUD Opacity - Let us choose how opaque the HUD is.
- FPS Limit - Let us choose our own FPS limit without needing to edit the Engine.ini file.
- Colourblind Mode - Easier viewing and playing for those who are colourblind.
- In depth Quality Controls - At the moment we have one overall "Quality" setting. I propose individual choices for the following:
- Textures / Shadows / Lighting / Effects / Brightness / Vsync(?) / AA(?) / Motion Blur(?)
Audio:
- Select Audio Output Device - Let the player choose which audio device they want to output the game to. Rather than system default.
- Master Volume Slider
- Menu Volume Slider - Main menu and lobby volume
- SFX Volume Slider - Generic noise of the game, birds, footsteps, breathing, gens popping, missed skill checks etc...
- Music Volume Slider
- Speaker Configuration - Mono / Stereo / 5.1 / 7.1 etc...
- Mute on Focus - Same as now
Controls:
- Mouse Sensitivity - Allow for greater control going to 1 decimal place. Allow separate settings for Survivor and Killer. And further settings for Killers while using ability such as aiming with The Gunslinger. Allow us to adjust vertical and horizontal sensitivity separately.
- Invert Mouse - Self-explanatory, but allow the option for survivor and killer to be opposites. For example, some players may use inverted when playing as survivor, but not when killer. Due to the 3rd person and 1st person perspective differences.
- Screens for Survivor and Killer controls to be clearer - At the moment we go to the "Controls" tab and get given the survivor controls, and then click the arrow on the right side of the screen to get to the killer's controls. Make this clearer as to where to go for each type of control, sub-tab them underneath the main "Controls" tab at the top of the screen.
- Double Bind Controls - At the moment it's one key to one control. Allow players to bind 2 keys to one control. Small QOL change.
Edit 1: + "Streamer Mode" in Gameplay
Edit 2: + "Select Audio Output Device" in Audio as suggested by @Kelmat

I really like this idea and hope it gets implemented into the game!!

Thanks! Realistically I think this should be a minimum standard for most/all PC games at this point. Hopefully someone from the dev team will take this in to consideration.

This should get more up votes! 👍️

Thanks, but I fully expect it to get buried underneath everything else :3

This looks great. Also really important: select audio device. I think the lack of this option and the resolution one is mental.

As always, QoL gets zero attention. I hate it.

Ive been asking for colorblind settings for the last year and all we have gotten is "we dont want people who see normally to get an advantage from it" or other users telling me just use the windows or nvidia settings (which suck btw) or to use bloodhound
I shouldnt have to use a perk just to make the game playable for me
I love all these ideas but just having the options in the menu dosent mean the devs know how to impliment it I honestly hope they do know how to but I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt
Please give this post love so the devs see it (ops not mine)

Good shout, just added that now. Thank you!

I agree, games should be inclusive to everyone which includes things like colourblind mode and easy to read Sans Serif fonts to name a couple.

Great ideas but I would like to point out that music / sfx sliders wouldn't be that great idea. People could just turn off music to immediately have advantage in runs or chases that gives the other player a chance escape.

So... this was completely ignored right?

I expected nothing less :3
I did send them the link in the last feedback survey though... so maybe?? Or we'll get ignored twice :)

With the rise again in hackers attempting to disconnect players/streamers from games, would BHVR be willing to acknowledge these settings/suggestions, in particular the Streamer Mode suggestion, please?

How would any of this apply to us lowly consolers?

Aside from the few PC exclusive controls such as, windowed mode/res/in-depth graphic controls. The rest should apply to consoles easily. Can't speak for mobile though. Even if these didn't apply to consoles, it shouldn't be ignored for PC players

I agree ignore no one, but I have noticed the devs consistently only add & change things across all platforms or not all. I imagine it is to not show favoritism.
