Lobby and Post-Game Chat Filter
Why hasn't a filter been implemented to avoid people using slurs?
Since reports don't always work, specially now since you can't even get the ID of the person who you want to report, I feel like a filter feature should be implemented.

What system are you playing on? Ps4 pc Xbox?.If it’s ps4 there’s an option to have your profile set to private and or friends only.

Pc, we have chat in game.

I’m sure there’s an option for pc but I wouldn’t know I never played DBD on pc.

Reports are read and acted upon depending on the internal parameters that the mods use. I'm guessing that "don't always work" means "the mods don't ban everyone I report", which is normal. Also, a bug is no reason to develop and implement an entirely new feature. It's far easier to just fix the bug.
With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing a filter for common slurs.
I would especially love it if the filter were troll-y in nature and replaced common slurs with sentences showing support for the people whom those slurs are supposed to denigrate. So for the N word, for example, you could have it be replaced with "black people are awesome", or something to that effect. Of course, I understand if I'm alone in finding stuff like that hilarious.

I'm talking as someone who hasn't filed a single report in 3k hours, but I do see a lot of slurs being used in both lobby and post game chat.
I actually like that idea, I would change the slurs for compliments though, n word could translate to something like "awesome" or "beautiful", a random complimentary word could be used, or even just change it to a "gg"

Yeah, the mods don't act on reports that are never filed in the first place. Kinda hard to have a good report system when people don't report.

The report system isn't good even if reported.
Like I said, they ask for a user ID. You need to get to the person's steam link to get that ID, which isn't even available in post-game chat anymore, Good luck trying to find a common name on steam.

That's only if you wanna send in additional information, which is not required for the vast majority of offenses.
I've actually used the report system, so I know how it works.

I also know how it works, and it isn't flawless.

Obviously not, it's run by humans. But it's still better than not sending a report and expecting those people to go away anyway.

I know what you mean... I have no idea why they removed the profile viewing when their reporting to support requires their steam ID.
1 -
No one is expecting that.

The only issue I have with it tbh. It's impossible when they have a common name to find their ID

Honestly just add a filter (either filter it to "nice" things or just ****. 4 of them no matter the word, so the amount of letters can't even hint at what it is) for those kinds of words. Not stuff like lol ur bad but for actual slurs that no one will miss anyway.
EDIT: But please no overzealous blacklist of words. I've played a game with a knight as a playable character that censored the word "knight" because of a string it contains, that's stupid.
EDIT2: And obviously make dodging the filter a punishable offense.
And since we're already halfway there already by detecting the words in the first place, automated punishment would be an option too. Sure anyone can get salty and say stupid stuff, but there's a HUGE difference between getting mad and calling someone a dum-dum or saying they're trash at the game and throwing out something like the N word or self harm encouragement. And even if it wasn't instant "true" punishment a 1-warning-next-you're-out approach would work too.

N word and F word have no other meanings though.
I'm talking about filtering actual slurs

I am portuguese and the other n word you were mentioned isn't even the default word for black. There are literally nothing stopping them from blocking slurs.

But it is a racist way to refer to black people in English. The issue with filters like these is that if you try to cover even just a handful of languages, you'll end up with words that are censored for seemingly no reason.

Indeed. Just file a report if you see a bigot. The mods will take care of it.

You don't need a steam ID for chat logs just report at the end of the game.
This gives the devs the person's unique DBD user ID and they can look up the chat logs of the match.

give a small wheel of options allowing expression of any emotion without being awful about it. you can still express yourself but its controlled. If people want further discussions they can make it happen on their own. It would remove the knee jerk reaction to spout off while frustrated and any decent platform has a way to talk to others. Make people jump a hurdle to be mean and the mentally obese(fat heads) won't generally go the distance.

I really would love to see the filter as an option ingame. Something like:
Chat Settings
Hide Chat automatically: No / Only Killer / Only Survivor / Both
Filter Chat (and replace with): No / Smileys / Words / Stars (***)

Peanits has actually answered this question before from what I remember.
Apparently the reason that it wouldn't solve anything is because people could find other ways to spell it, for example someone could say 'f1ck y0u' or something along those lines.

I would make reporting easier as instead of having "borderline" words or words that some people find way worse than others, it could be boiled down to "if you have to circumvent a filter to say it, you shouldn't say it". Then make dodging the filter a reportable offense. As the filter list itself would serve as a clear blacklist of words instead of having people argue about how bad a particular word is.

What I do is just minimize chat by clicking on the icon. The chat in the survivor lobby has been effectively off for months and I haven't missed it (I always solo queue). I keep the post-match chat on or off depending on whether I want to miss stuff like:
(me learning to play Ghostface)
What I'm trying to say is the chat has its good and bad sides. If it bothers you, minimize it. Toxic people can easily circumvent filters to insult you.
