Actually, you already can play with someone on other plataforms, the only one that can't crossplay is the mobile, but PS4, switch and PC can all play together already

Steam and another pc version (windows store i think) can play together.
you can turn off crossplay in the settings, it’s turned on by default

They've only confirmed that crossplay will be coming by the end of the year, I believe that's all they've said about it.
