A Thought Experiment About Legion

Just a quick note, this main part of this is a copy and paste from a comment I made on an Otzadarva video.

Hello Otz! I was watching this and I had a niche idea for Legion. Legion is meant to be a killer based upon the idea that “Legion” is multiple people. Thus, this should stay as such. I believe there is something to be done about this; give Legion the ability to use lockers. When the map starts, a Legion spawns within a random locker and there is always another Legion starting in the basement. Now, whenever the starting Legion enters a locker, they can look at and choose another Legion within a locker, and “teleport” to them. The teleport process as a whole should take a total of about 10 to 15 seconds, and the opening and closing of the lockers should be very loud, and obvious that HEY LEGION EXITED THE LOCKER, as unless the survivors are playing with coms, it’ll be extremely difficult to counter this. This is my solution to the 1v4 / 1v1 problem. Getting the drop on someone on a gen by “switching Legions” will allow both map control and a lore-friendly way to fight against the survivor group who splits up. Now, to balance this. After switching Legions, the Legion you just switched will be inactive for 30 seconds, but each time you activate the power, the other Legions will change to a different locker (excluding the basement Legion as long as that one has not been used). This will give a maximum of 4 Legions, with 3 to start, and every teleport will deactivate THAT Legion for half a minute and will change the current locations of the other Legions (and by random, this includes the stipulation that the previous 3/4 filled lockers cannot be picked up by another Legion within this cycle) This ability also stops the wide spread use of using Lockers. As a hint to the survivors, a locker with a legion within a locker will have very quiet breathing, only audible within 5 meters. Lockers used by Legion in any form, other than the random used, will be ever so slightly ajar, and if a survivor opens a Legion’s locker, that legion slams it shut, and the player-Legion is given an auditory and visual cue.   I don’t know if this is balanced, by I enjoyed the thought experiment. A hunter type kill, who also denies certain lockers, whilst also having map control, sounds interesting to me. And if this needs further balancing, then make all teleporting unusable for 40 seconds. Anywho, I really hope you read this and give feedback. The people behind DBD will probably never hear this idea, but I enjoyed thinking of it. (Also this wouldn’t remove the Feral ability). This could also give them the ability to make interesting addons.

Now, after playing man hours of Legion, what my thoughts are.

The ability should have a longer cooldown, probably a full minute if not longer. The random aspect for which 3 lockers you can choose is a must. You might get unlucky, which means you either never use the ability? Use it as a mind game somehow, or waste your own time resetting them to try and get better RNG. Entering should be about as loud as a rushed locker get-in, but the exit should be like a war cry, make it very unique and the radius the sound plays for should be double their terror radius.

After exiting a locker, put Feral Frenzy immediately on cooldown, as if you had just used it all up. This makes it so you aren’t getting any crazy overpowered combo, and this will help so that Feral Frenzy itself isn’t nerfed.

So, what are your thoughts? I’ve never seen any ideas of a killer using a locker more than just Huntress’ reload or just pulling someone out, so I thought they could get more use. Maybe even make the hiding Legions’ breathing loud and heavy, with a hand sticking out, keeping the door from being grabbed. Of course, the skin should stay the same, just so the coding doesn’t become a nightmare. I thought this was semi-balanced, and was in no way too op. All it does is give Legion more opportunities over map control, while still having plenty of counter play.

For instance, you’re playing this Legion. You are nowhere near a locker, and you just got notified about something loud at a faraway Legion Locker. Do you spend almost a full 15 to 30 seconds getting to a locker and then teleporting, or just keep in mind a person is there? Do you use the teleport as soon as the match starts? Or do you save it for some weird play? Or save it because a Legion took a locker right next to a gen you really want to protect?

Would love to hear some other people’s thoughts on this, sorry for the rambling, and happy anniversary!

I actually love this idea. Even if it wasn't used for Legion, a killer that could essentially manipulate lockers would be a cool killer. It would certainly change up the gameplay for hiding, that's for sure.

Althought I like the idea of multiple legion members inside the same trial I would prefer the rest of the gang being a threat and not just being a teleport and sleep in lockers. This idea is cool for something like a mummy army or some kind of hivemind killer with multiple bodies that can be controled one at the time

I'm going to be honest and say I didn't read every single detail, I mostly just skimmed it, but I do generally understand what you're saying (change Legion's power to be more based around hiding in the lockers and tricking survivors.)

I actually really like the idea of the different power. I want to preface by saying that I don't know if it would be better exactly, or even balanced, but I think it's an awesome idea taking control of multiple characters to attack from different angles. It reminds me of "The Lost Vikings" from Blizzard's games (Heroes of the Storm is one if you're interested in checking what I mean.) I have just a few notes though.

I usually hate drawing comparisons between killers, but the teleportation ability reminds me a lot of Freddy, but when you think of Freddy's vs. your proposed Legion teleport, you'll notice that Legion has to find an object, channel a long time, have a notification go off for the survivors and all that. With Freddy however, he can do it from anywhere to any uncompleted gen as long as his power meter is filled. Not only that, but he charges it up in just a couple seconds. It's hard to come up with unique ideas, but I feel like things that are going to be similar to other killers (like this Freddy vs. Legion thing) have to be competitive with each other. The teleport feels like it's a really long drawn out version of Fred's teleport and Freddy can be much more deadly than Legion as it stands, without any changes. Also, I know you mentioned "basement locker" in your teleportation thing, but I also feel like even the lockers upstairs shouldn't be able to be used. It's still too close to the basement -- but maybe you already thought about that.

Anyway, I like the idea. It would make Legion feel crazy to play being able to be at multiple places at once (essentially) and keep people on their toes like any of the other high-mobility killers.
