I don't think they actually altered his cheeks considering there were some complaints about Cheryl's face not being accurate so if they had touched any models before release it would have been Cheryl's face rather than PH's cheeks - I suppose.

That's just the magic of lighting. Compare his forearms on both pictures. They too look more muscular with the Yamaoka-map lighting than they do in the lobby.
