So.. uncaging is 100% risk-free now..
A hotfix patch note just came out, and it removes the ability of the PH to see the cage.
So what does it mean? It means free uncaging, where PH can do nothing about it. NOTHING.
So in EGC, there is no way to defend your cage, and if you hook them normally, you get DS and BT.
I personally don't like the idea of this because uncaging shouldn't be totally risk-free since it still counts as a hook state.

I think its fair considering BT and DS are useless with the cages and it was an easy tunnel for PH.
Caging a survivor you also don't have to worry about flashlights, breakout, hook sabos, boil over, body blocking etc.

i think maybe what they should do is make it so you can see the aura of the uncaged survivor, or to prevent tunneling, the rescuer, for like a couple seconds after they're freed since you can no longer see where they are caged. its just weird having a hook alternative but not even knowing where they were put so you don't know where to defend at all. so if you can't know where to defend, then maybe know where to attack would work.

Risk/Reward like most other powers. It's up to you in the moment to determine that balance and whether you're better off Hooking or Caging in that particular moment.
Caging in the old state had mostly reward, minimal risk. This balances that equation out a bit more and forces you to think a little more tactically about your decision.

While I agree with the changes, I disagree that caging had mostly reward. It usually resulted in survivors immediately getting teammates off the cages and did nothing to give map pressure.

Yes, by caging, you ignore DS and BT, but so as Pop and BBQ.
Killer also loss some perks in case you forgot

if you dont play like a scum, this really shouldnt affect you. its only going to affect toxic people who tunnel and camp so i completely agree with this update.

But it's fair now that survivors get free uncage? Where is the risk/reward for this? Should it be 100% risk-free just because PH want to save few seconds for not hooking them normally?

Note that they also "fixed an issue" that didn't trigger a noise notification when a survivor gets uncaged. Is it still a nerf? Yes. But it's also coming with a supposed fix that provides the one way I said I'd be ok with the change on any level, so while I'm unhappy that they chose to do what they did, I'm at the very least somewhat placated by that.

Well.. thats the fault of toxic killer i guess you need to appreciate their toxic plays.
i mean you could literally stay infront of the cage and survivors couldnt attempt a rescue because you can just rescue them from one side.

Then they should make it easier for survivors to get tormented. Then i could really save some time.
But currently? You can waste more time making survivors tormented than hooking them normally.

There is another change. If you stays too close to the cage as killer for some time, the cage respawn somewhere else.

But my main concern is the aura.

Predicting where the cage will go and relocating it after survivors walked for the unhook sounds like a new killer strategy to me. More interesting than LOL FACECAMP.

No killer has a specific way to play them. Saying that is like saying if you're playing Ghostface without stalking, it's not how he's meant to be played and you're doing it wrong.

And the ability to hook someone in 2 seconds while ignoring flashlight or pallet saves, also allows to keep chasing a second survivor without the need to slug someone and risk he gets picked up.

I'll even go as far as saying that, if you just so happen that there is a caged survivor nearby, and you see survivors go to it, you can just camp for 5 seconds, make the caged survivor go to the opposite side, and further waste the time of the survivors.
Though I will say, they should at least put a deerstalker effect at around 12 meters of the caged survivor instead of playing hot and cold.

I was literally thinking and suggesting to my friends that they remove pyramid head's ability to see the cages if it would cancel hook perks and prevent him from camping and its interesting to see that the devs and i have been on the same page a lot with several updates and balancing tweaks.

I don't mind so much not being able to see the cage, if anything, the only change I would like is that when survivors are tormented only the caged should have the torment removed and not the uncager too.

You literally should know where the survivor you cage is going relative to your current location, since it always sends them to opposite side of map. Please stop lmao.

It was an excellent well needed change. I've played over 80 games as PH (no joke) and he needed the change. It won't affect me playing as him but it will affect tunnelers and campers which is excellent.
Btw why do moris still work with cages?

Honestly. If they were making the "stand too close to cage sends it away" mechanic, then they didn't need to also add the aura hiding mechanic.

Yup. It's honestly the better of the 2 solutions, but you don't need both of them.
Sending the cage away has it's problems, but any Survivors there now need to go somewhere else for the save so you can still get something out of it and make it work.
However removing the aura reading denies information on where HALF of the entire Survivor team is. So I can't even go for the rescuer.

It was also helpful to find out which of the further away gens was being worked on. Overkill nerf is overkill, if I want to tunnel I can still just hook the survivor if he's tormented, then on the next step once he goes down again use the cage and then DS is mostly over and kill him. Surv gets almost always sent to the exact opposite of where you are at and if I REALLY wanted to be scummy I'd just use whispers to find the cage easier.

Thats not how punishments work in this game though. Legion for example only needed his chasing people backwards cheese addressed, but they added all kinds of things like blinding him after frenzy, lose frenzy after a miss which is like a 4second stun...etc,... they could have addressed that one thing but went much further to punish him. You can see the same applied here,... addressing the mechanic wasn';t enough, always have to add a little punishment in there.

It goes both ways, you'll probably see lots of pyramid heads just go out of their way to punish survivors now, the devs are from canada they should know that penalsystems based on punishments don't work.

Yeah just let PH have his risk free cages. God dammit. Think just once what nonsense youre talking. Caging is a trade off, you avoid several hook related perks as killer as well as the possibility of not being able to hook due to pallet safe/flashlight safe/sabotage and can still predict to some extent where a cage will spawn, against being able to tunnel or camp too easily. Looks killer sided to me, but hey I am just a bad rank 1 killer.

Rank1 is meaningless in this game. Scottjund is rank1 and probably 10 times better than you or me, Zubatlel is so far outside my level that we'd need a different league yet he's still at my rank.
Everything that freddy has is risk free too, not everything needs a god damn inbuilt counter.

Knowing where the survivor is unhooked is still info, it's especially valuable since survivors due to soundbugs cannot be found without luck if they're not injured due to breathing and footsteps being bugged once again, I had many situations where I caged a survivor, went looking for others, didn't find any and then only had the option to go for the unhooked one. It also tells you which gen is PROBABLY being worked on if you have other survivors to chase.

Cages will still be used exclusively to tunnel survivors, it will just be a little harder now because now you need to guess where the cage went. As long as it can be a chore to torment survivors, uncaging another survivor removes your own torment, and caging doesn't allow you to use hook perks it's going to remain exclusively a Decisive Strike mitigation tool. Survivors simply don't get tormented often and fast enough to justify using the cages to "save time".

The only time I see a problem with it is during EGC. Especially when the doors are already opened.
You send someone to a cage, and you have no indication of where other survivors might go. So it'll come down to luck at that point.
I think you should be able to see the cage during EGC. Cuz it's not like you can go to gens and find other survivors, since gens are already done.

One of my main concern is EGC as well. You either hook them, and DS BT save, or cage them, where you can't defend at all.
