So much damn grind! What is going on here?

So i did little experiment and after whole day of playing i was able to acquire 1m points for the first time. It was possible only because of cakes, sometimes even 50k in one round! Normally it would take something around 3/4x longer, let's say a week or two (i usually cant play whole day).

And after all this effort i was able to level up ONE (Seriously, just ONE!!!) hero from level 1 to 36, that's it. All my points are gone (ALL! Every, single point!), and she don't even have level 3 perks i wanted. So im still stuck with my basic level 50 hero, and level 37 killer, and i was not able to level up DLC hero and killer to level 50 even with +400% points per match!

Holly sh.t!

It will take years to upgrade perks for other heroes, level up killers etc.

Why so much grind? So much!

This game will be F2P soon or something? Or maybe, already was? What did i bought? :/

BTW, No info on Steam DBD page about ingame store and F2P microtransactions it's already quite shady.

Took me about 700 hours to get all perks as teachables, although during that time I did P3 50 Claudette, P2 Ghostface and spent a ton of bp in Billy, so take that time with a grain of salt.

What makes you think the game will be F2P? And yes, it's grindy but why not play to have fun? Don't worry about perks and meta builds. You just started playing, you'll burn yourself out if you keep grinding and not having fun. Also, there's nothing shady about the game or the in-game store, everything on there is optional, nothing pay to win.

How can i play for fun, when everything is locked behind (apparently) 700h of grind? :/ I cant even use heroes i bought (on level 1 all of them are useless and i don't play to lose, i mean, if i lose in fair fight its fine, but this is not fair with all my level 1 heroes, so with them i play to lose from start), i can play with perks i want, i cant even try one hero with possible good perk mix to try out and level up first (or only), i have to do this blindly. :/ And i did, now i have 2 heroes with kind of useless perks and killer i don't really like (it turned out axes very quickly become boring).

Why F2P? 700h Grind, InGame Store, BattlePass, 3x Currency (One free, one $$$ and another one for free, i guess?), Microtransactions, Daily Challenges, bunch of DLC, damn, even DOTA2 don't have so much F2P things in it, and DOTA2 is F2P game! O.O I also played Minion Masters, it was exactly something like this and now after few years MM is F2P game.

Start with picking the perks you want to unlock for all and level those up till you get those perks, then after 3-4 survs pick one you like the most and unlock those perks for him.

Thats how i did it, i play since 6 months 2-3 days a week for a few hours and i have most chars over level 40 in both roles.

Also don’t forget to check the Shrine of Secrets. It resets every Wednesday and from there you can buy up to 4 teachable perks of survivors/killers without having to level all those characters. You buy a perk from the shrine using iridescent shards. You get shards everytime you level up your account.

Yes, it is a hard grind and I don't remember how long it took to get all perks unlocked on both sides. My first maxed out (Prestige 3 Lv50 Full Perk) character was Jeff and I did it about a year (and ~1000hrs) ago. Now I have 5 of these characters.

The grind was much worse at the beginning (2016) or even a year ago, before the Archives were implemented. You get a lot help, trust me.

And there is no pay to win and no shady store etc. You don't need cosmetics. You don't need the Battle Pass. You don't need Auric Cells to play. The perks in the shrine are buyable with Shards which is earned by playtime.

The DLC and all the microtransactions is to keep the game flowing, the servers up etc. But you DON'T NEED TO BUY ANYTHING and you can play just fine. A friend of mine never bought anything with real money after she bought the base game. No DLCs, nothing. She unlocked other characters with Shards and has all perks (except a few of licensed characters which did not appear in the Shrine so far).

We all started with Lv1 characters and no perks. What perks are you missing? Decisive Strike? Deliverance? Other strong DLC perks? You don't need these at the beginning. I also didn't have them, when I started. I leveled Claudette first. No double BP event or special cakes, when I started to play. Then I got We're Gonna Live Forever from David to level faster. I leveled Huntress, messed up with the Hatchets, at Lv 20 changed to Wraith, before I bought the Halloween DLC (I love Myers) and leveled Michael up to 50. I stuck with him before I changed to Freddy way later. I never got BBQ & Chili, Enduring or Borrowed Time/Unbreakable (very good perks) until the very end when I bought all the DLCs during a sale.

Yes, the grind is hard, but believe me. I got through it without using all the meta perks at the beginning. I missed nearly every DS skillcheck (the times I tried it, because people said "it is so strong"), I couldn't handle the pressure of being the Obsession back then, when it was a REAL risk to have those entity claws around your name. I did not use Dead Hard because I could not look back without running into something. I used something like this when I started: Self Care, We're Gonna Live Forever, We'll Make It and Premonition. Sadly I got carried by a group, which I regret now (I learned very late how to loop properly), but it helped me at the start.

    Don't give up.

Why Developers don't respect Players time in DBD?

Im not a streamer with 3000 hours playtime, im not a kid with free 12 free hours every day to play DBD. I dont play games to be best in this #########, to prove myself or achieve anything, or whatever dumb reason i can think off.

Im playing, because its fun for me. I like play to relax after hard day.

And i like DBD, it is one of most funny multiplayer experiences i had for a long time... But it is also huge, COLOSSAL waste of my time and life.

Developers don't respect players time at all. Whole game is build around grinding and F2P mechanic. It still confuses me and i dont understand this at all.

While in game there are only few time wasters - SWF Teams when im Killer, and Mori/Doctor when im Survivor giving Killer basically free win no matter what i do and how good i play. Often losing because some "secret" perks like Barbecue & Chilli feels so random and unavoidable. Basically free kill for a killer.

Anyway, thats minor concerns. Game is wasting my time in menu.

Killers need to be grinded, to be good. Survivors need to be grinded, to be better or to unlock gameplay suitable for individual reasons. All need to be grinded to level 50, and only with luck that will be enough. I have to grind to unlock ONE TIME addons and skills, or bonuses allowing me to grind little tiny bit faster. I need to grind to unlock skills i bought (Dont even start, shrine is a joke, you have to buy DLC and grind) and grind to make those a little better, useable, if you want to be more precise. Because lets be honest here - berly anyone is buying DLCs for killers, they are not unique enough with cross-shared skills. I will maybe buy Pig for Surveillance just like i bought Leatherface for B&C. All skills are designed to be on level 3 and downgraded to give player a reason for grind. On top of that if i want level up Prestige, i have to add at least 100 hours to level up one hero, one of many, and lose all my progress, all my items, everything. And after a while even grinding hero to level 50 is not enough - after unlocking some skills on level 30 from 1/4 of killers level 50 is not enough to unlock everything, or even level up my favorite set to level 3. And level 50 bloodwebs suck in so much bloodpoints! I cant even level up basic killer set anymore. Now on level 50 my basic set is 3/1/1. :/

And Challenges, OMG, Challenges... So im like 150 hours, and thats HUGE TIME INVESTMENT FOR ME. DBD become one of most played games on my Steam account. Anyway, challenges are here for bonus bloodpoints. Fine. But i cannot make them! Fix 4 Gens? In one game? Without team thats IMPOSSIBLE. I have 150 hours and i dont have even 25% unlocked, i doubt if i have 10%. On top of that i have only 3 out of 8 books avaiable. :/ Challenges like Fix 4 Gens in one game or Stun Killer 4 times are almost impossible. I mean, HOW LONG DO YOU WANT ME TO PLAY?! Even without job i could not do all of this! My God, for WHO is all of this made for?

Uh, it is so frustrating. Basically this is one of 2 games i play 3 months now. And still it is not enough of my time. Not even close. I should play whole day? Live under a bridge and play DBD from free wifi? It will be enough then?

And yes, i already created thread about grinding sometime around 50 hours of playtime, but OMG, it is getting worse, and worse... Now even level 50 is not enough to unlock set i want. :/

Seriously, i wanted to buy more DLCs - Pig to unlock Skill (obvious one, right?) and Oni to play with, because i think he could be fun. BUY, i wanted to BUY this...

    (pause)

...but i dont have time to level up killers from DLC. -_-"

And no, dont even think about this, i will not buy freaking Bloodpoints, because i already bought DLC i cannot use properly. :/

Uh... So tired of this. Just wanted to play game i bought, but it feels more demanding, more and more and more and more, more of my time on top of my money. :/

The Killers are the real heroes of this game, not the survivors, is all I'm gonna say on the matter.

The grind has been a problem for many. I feel like the devs will be looking into ways for improving it because so many players have complained about the grind and so many players have quit because of the grind and they are aware of that. Also, you said you don’t want to buy bloodpoints, just wanted to let you know that there isn’t even an option to buy bloodpoints.

I have just recently gotten on top of the Grind, You guys are lucky, I have nothing to spend blood on now.

... I sat there in the snow for hours, suddenly, I could hear the Killer's presence....

When I created my alt, I bought all survivors with meta perks, and using WGLF/BP offerings I manged to get enough survivor perks for a few variations of the meta builds in less than 200 hours. Had DS/UB/SB/DH/Adren. Just had to level laurie/meg/bill partially for teachables while playing david with WGLF + whatever else I could get my hands on in hte meanwhile. I play this game a lot though so those hours flew by.

One time one of my SWF group started an alt and when we SWFd with him we were all putting BPS offerings for him and he must have gotten full meta in less than 75 hours. I think I personally used like 50 or so BPS and so did 2 of my other friends.

Basically the point is you can get a good build going pretty quick if you know what to rush for. Then once you have a good build it's just smooth sailing as you slowly collect everything else.

I don't understand why people defend this game's business model. Is highly anti-consumer. The game should be either free-to-play, remaining the same way as it is, OR continue being a paid game but the only paid DLC's are those of licensed characters. However the game not only is paid (and not cheap by the way, specially on consoles, at least here in south-America), but also the majority of content is hidden behind paid DLC's and ridiculous grind.

Again, why people defend this business model is beyond me. Either they are just rich and don't give a damn about anyone else or the fact that they spent so much time and money in this game that they feel the need to justify it by defending it. Or they are just incredibly stupid. If you are not actively MAKING money out of this game you should just agree with posts that criticize said business model. Specially if it is a very polite and reasonable one, like OP's.
