Clowns in Horror
People actually scared of clowns. like what? Lmao why dont people realize that they are just PEOPLE with make up??
"Ohh Because he supposed to happy and funny and the smile and the WAH WAH WAH" SHUT UP. A clown can't have a bad day?
Just Seeing another person, who has their face covered in paint makes them FEAR FOR THEIR LIFE?
I think if you gave a disgruntled employee from walmart a knife,
it would be probably just as NOT scary as Clown in Dbd.
I would beat the piss outta ANY CLOWN that tried to harm me. im' not even muscular in any way, you simply have to understand that this guy IS a fn joke and IS try to play on the possibility that you ARE part of the vast percentage of people who are scared of clowns, for some reason.
Ok im done my Rant

The fear of clowns may be irreproducible for people not affected by it but one DSM-V criterion for a specific phobia is:
"The fear or anxiety is out of proportion to the actual danger posed by the specific object or situation and to the sociocultural context."
If it would be a "normal" reaction, it wouldn't be a phobia, so I don't get your point.
Telling a phobic person "Your phobia is irrational, get over it." is most likely not going to cure them fyi.

Some people are afraid of being in a house. It's called Oikophobia.
Some people are afraid of chickens. It's called Alektorophobia.
Some people are afraid of THE COLOR YELLOW!!! It's called Xanthophobia.
Coulrophobia, someone I personally have, is just as illogical as these fears, and yet, they still exist. Phobias are completely irrational most of the time.
Yes, I consciously know a clown is "just some guy in make-up," but my sub-conscious doesn't. THAT is what makes it hard to deal with.

An old favorite B-movie classic of mine.

It is more the juxtaposition of a happy concept, such as clowns, with horror. This cultural shift really happened around the time Stephen King wrote IT... and there was an actual clown killer in a point in history. His name escapes me, but the reputation of clowns took a nose dive after that.

My guess as to why people are afraid of Clowns is because of what could be hidden behind the happy and goofy appearance. Maybe they see the clown make up is a facade hiding something more scary. If I remember correctly, notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy dressed up as a clown, so the fear isn't completely unjustified. Bear in mind this is just speculation though.
