Hit Registration?
Just a question about something that ticks me off and happens often. Is there a purpose for the killers to be able to hit me 5 ft from the window as I vault over it? Is that suppose to be a mechanic or faulty developing? It happens very often and usually seems illogical especially with smaller characters who hit the window frame, for example legion, and end up connecting with me as I've already vaulted over it. Is this due to server connection? I have no clue. Hit registration never lines up with the visuals and sometimes I get heated over it.
Please to god don't say "Oh you're just bad at the game and have no skill" too many people say that instead of giving a legitimate answer and it shows what kind of player you are. Despite having a new account for discussions I am not a new player, I am most certainly above average and have played for a long time, I know hit registration has been crappy since the start but I just had to ask and see what the people say.

Currently, killers have the authority over hits. If they hit a survivor on their end, the survivor will get hit on their end (no matter where they are). This is a carryover from the days before dedicated servers where the killer was the server.
In the PTB, this is actually being addressed though. The killer still has authority over hits to ensure that everything feels the same as before, but if they have a weak connection, the game will reject hits that are too far away. Testing for that starts tomorrow.

Alrighty, thank you for the detailed answer that I was hoping for, I was told there would be changes to the game soon and I'm grateful that this is one of them. I recently got back into Dead by Daylight because my uncle and his friends bought it from the steam summer sale and it's definitely been improvement from a while back.

Need a bit of clarification on that as I just started downloading the PTB and haven't tested yet.
Do you mean-
The hit will confirm for Killer as it does on live and starting the animations, reduced move speed, THEN revert the hit if found if the server says so?
Or does the Killer need to wait for the server to confirm the hit before the animations and move speed adjustments start?

I assume if the killer has authority over hits then it’s still client-sided?
Why not have hit registration totally server sided so that it’s fair for both sides?
1 -
Right now, it's not active yet. The hit validation testing starts tomorrow (just in case it interferes with testing for the other changes). But yes, the hit will appear instantaneous and you'll immediately react to it as if you hit them, but if your connection is really bad, the hit will appear to be undone on your end (if you're the killer). The survivor will never see the hit.

Because this can easily lead to inconsistency with hits passing through Survivors even on a decent connection. This is THE fastest way to completely annihilate the game's Killer population and the game itself.

This is literally why i dont play nurse, idk if her lunge is shorter or hitbox is different or what but at least once a game i waymtch my weapon pass right through someone and i want to throw my xbox into a meat grinder

The game still works off client authority. You're just missing.
0 -
No, im really not. I know the difference between when i miss and when my weapon is literally going through someone. Ive done a ton of missing, i know what it looks like
0 -
Then you'd be getting a hit, because your client determines when the hit occurs. You're not, therefore you missed.

Youre not hearing me. My weapon is passing through their body. Do you speak english?

I acknowledged your claim and explained the error. Good luck in your practice.

OK buddy you're so wrong we all know hitboxes and servers are horrible and I can guarantee maybe it is worse on console where i play but I always have stable connection and when I play nurse hits are NOT consistent and I hope you know she is actually bugged as so many people said hence why hits are not consistent regardless of whether they touched or not ive had hits that touched and hit and that didnt ive had hits that didn't touch but still hit and didn't so don't pull the whole your problem is wrong card

"Hitboxes" are a boogeyman explanation for latency issues. Latency does not (currently) affect Killer hits outside of projectiles like hatchets. Your connection will not change this as Killer. Hope this helps.
1 -
It doesnt as you clearly have no idea what youre talking about. When the weapon is literally passing through people there is an issue. You can keep insisting ghat were just missing but you look like a fool 🤷♂️

Feel free to provide video examples or evidence of the server having authority. Do you think BHVR lied and already changed hit registration?
0 -
At what time will it be testable?
0 -
No, i think nurse is bugged to #########. And when i have it ill send it to you

Any word on grabs, then? Since a lot of grabs seem to end in failure, would survivors have 'authority' over them?
1 -
Server already has authority over projectiles (physics calculations) and presumably grabs. This is why you already see issues with them, as according to the server the survivor already let go of the gen/vaulted/unhooked, you just didn't see it yet. There's not much that can be done to remedy this unfortunately.

Yeah, that crap totally isn't going to break in favor of survivors, then be completely ignored for the next 6 months.

Any clarification how it will work? Am I going to get stuck in a blade wiping animation while an uninjured survivor runs away?

Yes
