How would you get Trail of Torment to work?

I'll admit, I've had a bit of an obsession with this perk. I know it's not all that good most of the time, the blaring warning it gives when in use nullifies most of the stealth bit about it, yet it calls to me. Been trying it on Plague in a weird, gen focused build.

Thrilling, Torment, Infectious, PGTW. It's been hit or miss, but I've managed a few grabs with it that I find hilarious, which is what keeps me coming back to it.

However, I know it's more on the meme side. What build could it fit into, for any and all killers that you fancy with it, in which it could be useful? Looking for some inspiration.

Honestly, gen control builds. Pop, Trail, Surveillance is what I'm currently running on PH, and I like it. It does suck (and is a bit stupid) that you give away your position to every survivor when you activate Trail, but using it aggressively can be super effective. Run into a couple of people, kick the gen while they scatter, and take advantage of the moderate confusion to get some hits in. Make sure to keep an eye on the generator as well, you wouldn't believe the number of times that I've had it light up while I'm still in stealth.

Actually Surveillance blocks the aura for some odd reason. It might be a bug, but considering BHVR hasn't bothered to patch it after two updates, it might be intended

I use Trail of Torment in my Shape-Shifting Legion build:

    • Trail of Torment
    • Deathbound
    • Tinkerer
    • Hex: The Third Seal

Makes the match a little chaotic and scary. Terror radius disappearing at random times throughout the match, and Third Seal stopping Trail of Torment from warning survivors, so long as the Hex is active. Survivors that heal away from me have to stick together or they'll be oblivious. Is that silhouette in the distance another survivor or Susie? Third Seal stops Bond, Kindred, Empathy, etc., so they won't know until you're closer, or they'll waste time being scared of each other. Makes the game scary again, if not for Spine Chill.

    ----

Honestly, they should buff Undetectable/Oblivious. Oblivious should not disable detection perks, as other have suggested; instead it should keep them always active while the survivor is Oblivious. It would be like a survivor hearing the Doctor's Illusionary Terror Radius: they're on high alert and frantically checking their surroundings even though the killer might be all the way across the map.

Undetectable should have some sort of Distorion effect on detection perks, causing them to flicker on and off sporadically while they are active. Some survivors assume that the flickering means the killer is simply chasing another survivor nearby, and wait for it to stay solid for a good bit before actually moving off a gen. While the survivors will adapt and always move away when there's flickering, now the survivors might be needlessly doing so if the killer actually is in a chase, or if they did it to scare them off the gen on purpose.

I've been contemplating an idea with the Hag combining it with Hex: The Third Seal and her Mint Rag addon (teleportto traps at will at the cost of a 15 second cooldown). Third Seal helps but wouldn't necessarily be essential, as you could kick a generator and then shoot off anywhere else on the map. Like stealthier Demogorgon portals.

Haven't fully worked it out, though. Maybe Brutal Strength to make the gen kicking faster

I dunno, it’s not like I have the bp to get this perk on every killer to experiment but If I could...

I always consider trials or torment a hard counter to better together and keep thinking of a build to really discourage survivors to work together on gens. So my build with trials would be (in theory).

    Killer: Legion/Plague

    • Trial of Torment
    • Discordance
    • Blood Echo
    • (Legion: Nurses/Plague: BBQ)

So, in theory, Discordance goes off and you find multiple survivors so you use killer power to injure all or get all sick to eventually have all injured. When Plague, you down and hook survivor to nearest generator. BBQ gives info. If that gen nearest to hook has been worked on, you kick and activate trials, using the info you gathered you should go after the injured because now blood echo has them weak and exhausted. As Legion, I would drop BBQ has my info and opt to go Nurse, using Trials and nurse to scope out healing survivors and surprise them.

Hope you get inspired, personally I have that same ‘calling’ for Forced Penance. I feel many survivors take protection hits when I play DS but I can’t figure out a build for it yet.

Dark Devotion is my own "just what can I do with this?" Perk.

Wait, surveillance blocks the yellow aura revealed to survivors? It certainly doesn't block the yellow aura revealed to killers

    @Deathslinger

I use Bond with my Better Together. If I see a survivor aura within 36m with Bond, I will gen-tap to make Better Together cause the gen aura (visible from 32m) to flash instead of stay solid

Ah, so survivors already have a new communication trick to ensure it’s a survivor and not a killer. Sad, another mind game opportunity denied through mechanical loopholes~

nice trick though, I’m a killer main but I like BT and I’ll remember the Bond synergy.
