A lot of people targeting Spirit now that Billy is nerfed...

Unicorn Member Posts: 2,340

In my opinion Billy didn’t need to be nerfed, and neither does Spirit. Billy WAS the most balanced Killer in the game, now he’s just meh. But, I actually enjoy Spirit games. It’s fun trying to figure out where she’s gonna mind game you post-phase. Pleaseeeee, don’t start witch-hunting her. If you have different feelings about both Killers than mine, feel free to post here and we can have a debate/discussion.

Well, most of the time bhvr nerfs just one killer at a time. So it is still a cycle, even if survivors always ask for more.

Its honestly getting old to me, not just Killer witch-hunting, but perk witch-hunting from both sides as well. Don’t get me wrong, if something is super unbalanced then yes rework it. Most of the time it’s just complaints from either a Killer or Survivor who has a bad game before coming to the forums demanding unnecessary nerfs.

May I ask, just out of sheer curiosity and wanting to understand your POV why she is deemed unfun to you?

I agree, I am by all means a killer "main" at heart but for example yesterday all I played was survivor. My goal is to have 2k hours, 1k in each side, right now at 1700 with over 1k hours as killer. I want 1k hours as survivor. Despite me preferring role of killer, I play a tremendous amount of surv.

Touché, but it is still appalling to witness. Not only from Survivors demands, but Killer demands as well. I just wish it came from genuine places instead of “I just played against a Spirit she did really well, she needs to be nerfed!” energy.

Same. Like at this very moment I’m on DBD dedicating some playtime to Hag, although I’m 95% a Survivor player. It’s good to look at things from both sides of the spectrum and I’m glad you’re also like that. 💜

Hello again. You’ve been freed from Jail :D (I think? Forgive me if that wasn’t you) YAY. But correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t her skin glisten kind of like a glittery type of aura around her when she phases? Or was this removed?

I've never seen anything like this & the only time her shards glowed that I saw was a video that I stared at zoomed in at for 16 seconds. Some of her skins don't even do this.

It's because it's easier to post on forums complaining or watch youtubers/streamers than it is to try and learn and adapt. Many people don't like having to change. Spirit has lots of counters that people refuse to do. Not to mention one of her strongest counters is literally already a hard meta perk that's ran by almost everyone anyway.

Haha, that was me and thanks :D. I'm not sure, but when I play against her, there is no difference for me.

Survivors look at the top killer(s) and whine until they're getting nerfed. Then they chose the next top killer(s) to complain about.

Its been observeable since ever, but becomes really obvious when a killer actually gets a "slight rework".

I can understand the odds of guessing correctly where she is going to come from. Some may find that annoying/aggravating but to me that’s the fun part being in a chase with her in my opinion. I love being “jump scared” and freaking out not knowing where she is or where she plans on coming from (idk, I’m weird).

Also, (of course I wouldn’t know this unless I had a memory card for a brain) I’m not sure if I’ve went up against a lot of Spirits with Stridor (which I believe is a Nurses perk that enhances the audio of Survivors breathing?) but does Stridor work so well that it cancels out her slight phasing noise when playing with her? Idk, like you, I played Spirit on a bunch of different occasions but I’m absolutely horrendous with her so I don’t play her a lot anymore unless of course I have a ritual to do on her behalf.

Just her default does this I’m guessing? Because she’s showing the most skin?

Some people really do have issues with adapting. I, myself can admit that the new Freddy was hard for me to adapt to. I used to hate going against him so much but now it’s so much more clear but still not my favorite Killer to go against.

If it wasn’t for my friends giving my viable strats/info on how his new kit works I would’ve probably never gotten better against him. I even bought him, just to learn him from the Killers POV and that helped as well. Wish people would dedicate time into playing the Killer they have the most issues with instead of demanding nerfs. I promise it helps a lot.

You’re welcome! ^_^ and hm.. I usually see it, but from I’m being told by @GoodBoyKaru , not all of her skins do it. I can definitely see why a solid indicator of her phasing should be implemented.

Of course. Then once she's nerfed they'll all jump on Freddy, then huntress, then oni, etc, etc until there all just one big pile of nerf #########, instead of making players actually adapt and get skillful. If the same brain dead tactics won't work on said killer, there OP and need a nerf. It's really sad...

The reason people complain about her is because she has no interaction in a chase. She stands still and all of a sudden appears behind you without any indication of what she was doing. So I understand why she is disliked. Even I can admit this as somebody who mainly plays Spirit.

But people also potato against Spirit because they try to play against her the same way that you would a killer like Trapper. You have to change your playstyle against each killer and doing basic looping against a Spirit simply will not work.

Saying all that though, people tend to forget that she is purposely designed this way. That’s just the way that she is. If you had a clear indication of where she was during her phase walk then she would be significantly weaker. She used to have an omni-direction whooshing sound which made her very “meh”.

And the ideas people have had such as survivors making no injured groans during phasing would just butcher her. Sounds already are very bugged and having the Spirit rely strictly on footsteps and grass movement would be ridiculous. Or having the Spirit have a white stripe behind her like Nurse does while blinking would also make her much weaker due to the fact that Nurse moves faster and covers much more ground while blinking than Spirit does while phasing.

Maybe make it so her shards CLEARLY glow when she starts to phase so the survivors know “Okay, she’s now beginning to phase”. But knowing exactly where the Spirit is while she is phasing would weaken her A LOT.

I also run Iron Will all the time so my opinions might be skewed a little since I never have major issues against Spirit.

I think the OP is referring to the resurfacing of the topic. People have been complaining about everything, but specific events bring to the surface these old topics.

The forums are a cesspool of misinformation, angry rants and entitled echo chambers.

  • MadLordJack
    MadLordJack Member Posts: 8,814

There's nothing skillful about Freddy, Huntress has insane add-ons, and the problem with Spirit is that there is no skillful counterplay with her.

Well, there is counterplay, but it's not exactly skillful, and it's completely invalidated by a simple perk/hardware combo.

While I agree that the game would suck if everyone was an m1 killer, and thee are plenty of morons that genuinely don't want to adapt to individual killers, there are things that cannot be adapted to because you have no input into how they play out. And there are certain killers that may be stronger that their skill floor should allow. 1 killer, for the most part.

  • GoodBoyKaru
    GoodBoyKaru Member Posts: 22,939

In response to your second part yep. Stridor makes it so survivors breath at 150% volume, when combined with iron will it makes it 50% the usual volume, so unless you're using no mither you still make sounds (its annoying lol).

Also in regards to the skins, it may just be the default. I know for a fact her Halloween, rift 2, and schoolgirl skins don't glow.

This. There are so many things when possibly reworking Spirit or making tweaks can hinder her greatly. A big thing that reasonable people are asking for are the same thing that you’re asking for, an Indicator, which I whole-heartedly can stand behind. I don’t see the shard suggestion being a problem for both sides.

    Great post.

billy's power didn't have to nerfed. Spirit on the other hand - along with deathslinger she's the most boring thing to play as/against (at least in my opinion). It's not that either of them are too strong - they're just mind-numbingly uninterractive. That said, I'd be really happy if i saw them a lot less frequently.

Also, putting the word "mindgame" in the same sentence as "spirit"/"deathslinger" is laughable

  • Unicorn
    Unicorn Member Posts: 2,340

Ah, okay. So yes, you’d have to stack Iron Will/No Mither or just run No Mither on its own, which is already a super risky perk.

Okay. I see now. So I officially agree that yes, a solid base-kit indicator needs to be implemented.

I accept that you personally feel like you got mindgamed when you got caught out by a spirit. However, think about this - while youre at a tile (be it a jungle gym/window tile/shack/whatever) - to mindgame you a player would have to actually think about how to get to you. For example they might try to hide their red light and walk backwards to cover distance whilst you still don't know where they are, or fake going one way and then go the other. To me that's a mindgame. Now think about spirit/deathslinger:

    • Spirit - all you need to do is stand still for 2 seconds to see how a player reacts. If they stand still as well, phase to where they are. If they run away, phase and follow them. If they run towards you, don't phase and just smack them. In each of these scenarios the spirit holds all the information and the survivor holds none, as they don't know when the spirit actually starts phasing.
    • Deathslinger - assume you're being chased and have made distance, but are not at a tile yet. All the deathslinger needs to do is "fake" their power a couple of times (just aim down the sights) and observe what the survivors does. If they tried to dodge, you're making up the distance, so you can just shoot (based on their dodge pattern) or catch up whilst they lose distance trying to dodge. If they don't try to dodge, just shoot straight and you're guaranteed to catch them. In either scenario, the deathslinger holds all of the information and again, the survivor holds none - they just have to guess when the Deathslinger is actually going to shoot.

Both killers can be defeated, but in an actual chase (which to me at least is the fun part of playing survivor), they'll catch you without actually having to outplay you. That's my issue with both killers. It's not that they're strong - it's the fact that you're not actually playing against them, you're just guessing.

only thing bad about billy that needed tweaking was stacking his charge speed addons, and doom engravings with the carborator aka "crack billy" was a bit overpowered, but the nerf to his basekit is absolutely awfull, curve or "skill billys" with dual engravings are soo bad right now, and takes all the fun out of him, feathering his chainsaw to bait dead hard takes a huge chunk out of his overheat mechanic and the overheat regression takes way to long and is too puniching as juking billys aren't that hard, the mechanic forces billies to use it and make mistakes, 3 chains and youre overheated, and his new addons are soo bad.

  • MrDardon
    MrDardon Member Posts: 4,183

In my opinion, Billy didn't need any Base Kit Nerfs. Some of his new Add-Ons need tweaking as well.

Spirit doesn't need straight up Nerfs either, but some tweaking, so I came with those ideas:

    • Spirit cannot hear grunts of Pain while phasing, but can hear other sounds like breathing, footsteps and grass moving a bit louder than normal.
    • Increased her base phasing duration to 7.5 seconds to compensate since you will have to be more aware and cautious now while phasing.
    • Give her a glowing effect when she starts phasing, but no information to where she is phasing.

This are my ideas and I think it would be nice like that because at the moment you need Iron Will to have some sort of counter to her. This change will make Iron Will kind of base for as long as she is phasing so it won't be mandatory to have this Perk anymore.

Increasing her base phasing duration needs to be there because you need more time to react to other sounds since you won't hear grunts of pain anymore.

And the glowing Effect should work as a feedback to when she is phasing so you can prepare to move somewhere when you see this effect go off.

And if we are at it, I also have ideas for Nurse because there could have been made better work with her.

At the moment, she is the only Killer which really ignores base stats because of her complex power.

Usually, a Killer with a 32 metre TR moves at 4.6 m/s and a Killer with a 24 metre TR moves at 4.4 m/s. She has a 32 metre TR and moves at 3.85 m/s, which compared to other Killers is completely out of the norm, so I came up with those ideas:

    Nurse base stats:

    • Terror Radius: 24 metres
    • Movement Speed: 4.4 m/s

    Changes to Spencer's Last Breath

The Nurse now starts with 15 Charges. Every Charge takes 1 second to reload but will only reload of all Charges are consumed.

Every Blink removes 2.5 Charges. You will be able to double blink 3 times until all your charges are consumed, which will result in a cooldown for 15 seconds. During those 15 seconds you will be a Killer with 110 % movement speed, similar to Spirit while she is waiting for her phase to come back. I tried to make this similar to Spirit.

This change will give you a bit of the feel of old Nurse, since you can double Blink 3 Times without a cooldown after every Blink and after using all Charges, you'll have to chase Survivors normally as a 4.4 m/s Killer for as long as your Power is on cooldown.

I don't have ideas for Add-Ons yet since I came up with this idea recently so I'll work on that as well.

She would be able to have a 16 metre Terror Radius for a dangerous sneak up, but you shouldn't really get Blink grabbed since she makes a loud sound when blinking and if she doesn't reach your gen or position while blinking she also screams which will indicate that she saw you with Nurses Calling or is approaching your position.

I'd probably do a seperate thread for this, but you can add constructive Feedback which will help.

Every tweak that you added for Spirit can’t be turned down by anyone who is seeking logical and meaningful reworks/tweaks. I also agree with the Nurse tweaks.

@MrDardon Spirit can’t rely strictly on things like breathing and grass moving when sounds are absolutely broken. Half the time survivors don’t even make footstep sounds. Grunts of pain are really her only way of reliably tracking and sometimes survivors don’t even make injured sounds when they don’t have Iron Will equipped.

If sounds worked and STAYED working then maybe I can see it working but you can’t rely on something that doesn’t work half the time.

Spirit kinda has to rely on all of the things she currently has in her base-kit to be a threat especially with broken sounds.
