So..let's talk about this.."boring" nonsense
Now why is it nonsense you ask? It's just a cover word to avoid saying what you really mean which is usually an accusation of being too strong ..the only killer I think deserves to be called boring is legion..because despite frequent interaction with the killer..he doesnt win through much strategy at tiles..he wins the same way old freddy did..slow the game so much he fiddles down the tiles and smowballs..now THAT..is boring..
So let's talk about the two "boring" killers shall we..? Spirit..imo the best designed killer in dbd..and deathslinger..whom is overrated severely..now I do see the thoughts people have about these killers, however I think that a stigma has been placed upon them..spirit mainly..and unlike most I see on this subject..I think I may have a solution here for spirit at least..I call it..the ripple..now what is it exactly? Well..the way I see it..the ripple should make her form flicker..similar to how her passive phasing works, her body darting between worlds..but this ripple only happens shortly..at the moment her windup on her phasing is complete..this alerts attentive survivors her phase has begun..while keeping her mind games intact..itll also remain with her theme and let experianced survivors be able to mentally picture her potential movements as they have a base to work from. Also..please let her vault animation be to walk through the window..that would be pretty sick to watch lol
Now..deathslinger I'll admit it..is tricky..he already is made out to be diet huntress by many , and I kind of agree..hes got almost the same limitations with the huge difference of no real pallet punish, honestly I believe a better version of iri coin should be added, with added chain durability if he succeeds that way hes a sharp shooter over just another ranged attacker, and he could shave off some chase time..and itd allow him to occassionally make real use of his more stealthy nature..as for the zoning..well he needs it guys..if he didnt have it hed be screwed..huntress can punish pallets, has a larger shot, so she can get away with a wind up..even if shes really map reliant atm..but that's a discussion for another time..if you have ideas do share them..may as well make this interesting, ty

It is indeed unfortunate that "boring" has been co-opted by some people to be a thinly-veiled nerf request, especially when some things really are boring, like having to hold down M1 to repair gens when a simple toggle should suffice.

Isn't the counter to Deathslinger to just press ctrl? It seems to work for me.
Also I agree I hate going against Spirit. The trick tho is, like, stop running. lol.
2 -
It all depends on what that person means. When I call a killer boring, it's because I don't have enjoyable games against them. By which I mean it doesn't matter if I won or not. That game was still not fun.
3 -
Sort of my reasoning for legion..I like intensity in my killer opponents..legion fails at that
0 -
Death slinger is weak..and it's a shame really
0 -
Yes well..I'm hoping to find some middle ground here
0 -
Whereas I simply don't want the exact same strategy out of every Legion player. I have had enjoyable Legion matches. Not many. But when you get a Legion that doesn't just try to tunnel everyone down they can be fun.

I wouldnt mind it if he wasnt stuck to just..slowdown strats and m1 killer tactics you know?
0 -
No, he's not. Everyone says that because they haven't gone against an actual good Deathslinger. I've been put up against good and bad Deathslingers and got destroyed by the good ones. Lately, I've been paired up with terrible Huntresses and I've won almost all my rounds against her because it's easy to avoid her hatch.
1 -
True. But Legion was an absolute nightmare when they could just stab you repeatedly to down you.
0 -
He is..even if he can get reliable shots hes a time waster..that by itself makes him weak..as trapper proves extensively..now dont mistake my words..death slinger can win..but not on his merits alone vs coordinated squads of high skill..plus..I'll be honest..server latency helps him more than it should
0 -
They were garbage and oppressive at the same time lol, quite a feat
0 -
You've been playing against bad deathslingers then lol
3 -
No..I just know his limitations and see how easily exploitable they are

I feel like people who call Deathslinger boring are the ones who probably never figured out how to play him well or were once killed by him. A lot of people play Huntress because of the long-range right? Well she also has a MASSIVE hit-box so it's hard to miss your shot. You have to be exact to hit your target with Deathslinger and if you can't, you probably have a bad aim. They are probably just used to Huntresses cheat of a big hit-box, like how do you miss? I've hit a wall once 3 feet away from a survivor and it still took the hit, that's not very cash money at all.

"Boring" is used in every gaming community as code for "Too good" or "Overpowered" or whatever else.
Zoning characters in fighting games, good killers in DbD, snipers in FPS, and so on.

This video pretty much perfectly sums up my opinions on what makes a killer "boring".
A boring killer to me is one that win or lose, I don't personally find fun to go against at all because they take skill away from survivor side.
Spirits mindgames are not skill based, it takes no skill to stand still and have a survivor think that you are phasing, it's purely a guessing game, and that's what takes the fun away from me. I want to use my skills that I have learned from years of playing this game to help me escape chases and stay alive, not just have a 50/50 guess with no information.

That's actually a latency issue for the most part..her hatchets arnt as large as people think
0 -
I'll admit I hate snipers in some game too lol but they are legit op

I love when people say he's a time-waster because even I know he's not as slow as everyone says he is. He's still able to stop loops, end chases quickly, and just like any other killer he is able to catch up to people on foot. Sometimes I don't even need to shoot because the survivors WASTE time trying to avoid the shot so he is able to quickly gain up on them, it's all one big mind game.

I guess people overuse the argument boring when it comes to killers, and I always find it to be ridiculous when people say they dc when they have to go against certain killers, but in general people have the right to find certain killers boring. Everyone has killers they don't enjoy going against. However it gets pretty laughable as soon as people think those killers need major changes just because they don't like going against them, not considering the people that do enjoy going against those killers.

I've played Desthslinger, Huntress, and survivor, you should know I'm not talking about how "big" the hatchets are. Her hit box is massive and you don't even need to hit the survivors most times.
1 -
I've heard that Pig is boring
0 -
Boring to play most of the time honestly..but..that's because shes an m1 with little tile play imo
1 -
She's my main... and I personally enjoy playing her...

So... it's better for the killer to have to deal with situations they can do nothing about regularly ? Like the abundance of overly safe loops? Uncounterable perk combos?...why is that not a discussion?... The issue is it looks awfully to me that most "boring" complaints are about legion styling the killer into irrelevancy..and I'd like to note scott offers 0 solutions to this either..so I ask what you want? Because I want killers to feel like killers..not just a hurdle that has an unfair disadvantage vs my friends and i..I'm tired of it

For me, boring means a killer that gives survivors few to no viable options in a chase. The proper word is actually "oppressive".
Old legion, good Docs, God nurses, snare Freddy, stridor spirits, and PH are all guilty of this.
Many also include Deathslinger, Clown, Hag, Trapper, and even Ghostface in this list.
It's not whether or not the killer is good at getting 4ks, its whether or not the killer AND survivor both have viable options in a chase to outplay each other.
For me the pinnacle of chase balance is the mindgame at an unsafe McMillan crate loop, the one with equal length sides, assuming an m1 killer of course. Both sides have multiple options here to outplay each other, with high risks involved. Greedy survivors will either get hit or stall the killer depending entirely on their ability to read the next move. Killers can likewise break the pallet at any time, or try to predict the survivors vaults.
Killer powers that take away survivor options, without giving them any new counterplays in chase, are unfun because they bring less to the survivor experience than a trapless trapper would....

And I respect that..just wish her ambush had more uses^^;

Me too!

The problem is your vision doesnt work..killers need anti looping powers or they cannot win..survivors get too many second chances for that..an m1 killer is the least fun thing I deal with on either side..you feel like it's just walking simulator..I'll be honest I'd leave the game if your vision came to pass..because killer would never be fun

Lol

I didn't mean to change all killers to stricly m1 gameplay, I meant that their powers should be designed in a way that both sides have options and balanced mindgames. Huntress, Billy, Demo, Pig, pallet Freddy, Ghostface, and Wraith all have non-standard ways to deal with loops, without making survivors feeling too limited in the interaction.
0 -
I suppose so..but..the two are almost always together

Huntress, Billy, Demo, Pig, Ghostface, pallet Freddy, and Wraith all have non-standard ways to deal with loops without making survivors feel like they have no options to counterplay.

I notice your examples are also mostly powerless at tiles..meaning either every loop has to be very weak..or..they lose..no killer gives 0 counterplay options..they just dont let pallets be force fields...theres a significant difference

I think you're missing my point. I'm not saying nerf Spirit, Freddy, etc. into the ground. I think it's important for this game to have killers like them that are viable against good survivors and SWF's, but what I'm saying is that it is not fun to play against a killer that essentially leaves you with no options, or force you to play a certain way and that way only.
Every Freddy game is essentially the same one on repeat. Find survivor, snare, down, hook, teleport, pop, repeat. The gameplay against them becomes stale and "boring".
Deathslinger is far from overpowered but he does often leave you with no options, you either run straight and get speared, or juke to avoid the spear and put yourself out of position so he can just M1 you, and that to me is boring to play against.
And if you really want to know what I would do differently about these killers I would say give Spirit any sort of indication that she is phasing. Make it so Freddy is slightly slowed down when he places his snares so they actually take more planning and skill to use, and make it so Deathslinger has to be aiming in for a certain amount of time before he can shoot so he can't just zone survivors simply by existing.
0 -
As I posted I can agree with the indicator as long as it's not just given for nothing to everyone on spirit..freddy I disagree because even clown doesnt slow anymore when using his power and it's better at anti loop now due to addons..and death slinger..he would need massive buffs for that to be an option

Or turn around and walk past her, and run the way you came. But that requires too much effort and thought for the common player.
