I Only Have 1 Issue With Spirit
Its her ability to hear my groans of pain and due to the sound being directional, she can easily find you while phasing and tell if you moved forward, backwards or sideways but you can't do the same. Crank up the volume in your headset and use Stridor and once you're hurt, it's over.
Remove or greatly reduce her ability to hear grunts of pain and she'd be fine to play against.

Her actual phasing isn't an issue since you can still slow vault, fast vault and walk in a direction to confuse her but once she gets a hit, good luck.

@Respectfulnancymain She can still hear the breathing. Stridor even helps with that and she can see scratch marks. You can use your scratch marks to mindgame her but letting her hear you moan from 8 steps away is just impossible to avoid her and running a perk just to avoid her specifically isn't something every survivor should have to do.
I played her today at Rank 2 and kept killing EVERYONE before 3 gens were done on McMillan Estate. The big one. Not much of an issue and I wasn't even using Stridor.

Played against a Spirit yesterday and lost a 50/50 at a pallet, because let's be real, there's no way you can know which side of the pallet she's going to be on. Feels very uninteresting to lose to that.
It reminds me of that saying: "I only need to be lucky once. You need to be lucky every time." Because once you're injured, all mindgames are off the table and you are bound to go down.
Luckily, I don't face her very often. It's mostly been Legion, Huntress, Ghostface and Deathslinger this week.

My suggested changes are removing the ability to hear grunts of pain during phasing and the ability for survivors to hear her footsteps louder. That way there is some counterplay

Iirc it's technically a bug, but her glass shards change colour/transparency when she phases, easiest to see when you're close to her.

Oh, that's good to know. I'll try to look out for that the next time I'm unfortunate enough to be that close to a spirit.

@CLAUDETTEINABUSH Mainly, the grunts of pain is what pisses me off. She can tell what side of the pallet you're on due to the sound of the grunts being so loud and directional, at least I could tell it. The phasing part doesn't bother me much since you can manipulate your scratches but becoming a beacon of grunts is just awful. Its super easy to tell. You can even hear someone grunting in a locker with Stridor.

@SaltedSnow Just wish it would work with all of her cosmetics. Her Oni cosmetic is pure fire, though. When I saw that, I fell in love with her all over again.

Maybe the sounds could be echoey and non-directional in the ethereal plane? You'll still know how close you are to a survivor but they'll still have a chance to juke you.

At least it's a 50/50, with dead hard for distance or ds, the killer has no chance at all.
This is a 1v4 horror game, you're not supposed to be able to run the killer indefinitely. Once you're found, you're going down. What people have a problem with is how quickly spirit can down you, you can't run her for 3/4 of the game.

I dont like this idea because sounds break way too often, scratches are delayed and very buggy, and footsteps as I said come and go..not exactly fair when this is the case, especially when iron will exists already and itd nake walking almost a complete counter..no..I think a better idea is have her husk flicker in and out of reality for a shiort moment the moment her phase starts..it keeps her mind games intact but also allows you to know when the time comes to make a decision because if your paying attention you'll see her phase start up..if you dont or she positions herself well you won't know..I thi k this is as fair as it gets

You can hear people grunting in a locker without stridor. Grunts of pain isn't specific to the spirit. It is a big part of killers game play.

Iron will is a meta perk that saves me more times that DS ever has. Starting running it and you'll escape more chases of you know how to mind game killers

@immortalls96 Its not her phasing that bothers me. Its the fact that she can easily pinpoint perfectly while injured. She can be mindgamed while she's phasing but once you're hurt, it's just super easy to tell what side of the pallet you're at. That's my problem.

@goatslinger But none of them are invisible. Even Wraith has a shimmer. If I can't do anything at a pallet or even hide in a locker, I might as well stand still after a hit instead of running for 8 steps then getting down no matter what, not due to my skill but just being easily found.

@SailedSavage That's the problem. I shouldn't have to run a perk every game just to counter 1 killer. Same argument vs Doctor. Just run Calm Spirit but at least with Doctor, you can dodge his shock or throw the pallet early.

Iron will is good against every killer though. You make no noise while grunting from being injured by any killer. Calm spirit is ONLY good against doctor. That's the difference. Spine chill is good against every killer as well and it has no cool down. Spine l, iron will, DH and resilience is a beast of a set up vs any killer. It's good on gens and good in chase.

Well if she didnt have that then slamming pallets and running would be very safe..and by the time she realizes you've moved shed be screwed..every failed phase is a big punishing cd time..depending on the duration of her phase..its not supposed to be even power..its not a 1v1 game..my idea tries to find middle ground..understanding spirit would allow you to gauge her location based off experiance once you know the moment her phase begins..but she also can be rewarded by her good positioning to deny the tell..this idea comes from a little experiment a friend and I did with object of obsession

@immortalls96 Her power should be for closing the gap and wacking since she gets a damn long lunge and much faster speed boost coming out of it. Instead, you get her on top of you and immediately swinging once she comes out because she hears you hollering. You can't do anything against it due to servers and since the loudest point is where you're at, she'll just stand next to you, away from the pallet itself. I do it all the time. I got her adept as soon as I bought her. It was very easy. That's my only complaint about spirit. Her phasing itself can be mindgamed with your own scratches but running a perk just to stop her isn't a balanced design. Good luck trying to Head On her also xD

@ShadowReaper11 Play a KYFs match as Spirit. Injure them and phase while standing 7 steps away with your volume high then you'll see how easy it becomes. Get closer and closer and you'll notice after doing it a few times that you'll know precisely where they are. After that, let them run and hide near a structure and see if you can find them solely by phasing and you'll see the issue.

Head on is for memes anyway , and that may work on weaker survivors but not so easy once you get a team that deserves red rank status..the issue lies in the fact that people have come to expect easy ways to strip the killer of power without any real investment or effort..its why spirit suddenly made waves after people mastered her

@immortalls96 I use head-on on certain builds because it works well with others. Even Wraith has a shimmer yet he can still pull your ass off a gen with an add-on if you're not paying attention and gets a small speed boost. I said my reasoning of why but if all I'm getting is "use perks to stop it", then that is a flawed design.

Nobody ever said you needed the perk, I dont..and wraith being a weaker killer is a rather poor example dont you think ? And hes a stealth killer that's pretty outdated

If Spirit is trying to mindgame a dropped pallet with fake phasing (assuming she hasnt JUST phased in which case its obvious the ability is on CD, dont fall for it), you kinda gotta play what I call Schrodinger's Spirit. You assume she is both phasing and not phasing and pick the best option for them both. Typically thats to walk away from the pallet away from Spirit's husk and go for a window if theres one nearby.

Dont worry a lot of the time killer have no sound in those game they get you by luck or scratch mark

This is EXACTLY what I'm saying, only I don't think they should be lessened volume-wise, but rather she should not hear directionally during phase.

@immortalls96 The reason I mentioned Wraith is due to the fact that they were afraid to make a fully invisible killer. Look at Freddy at release also but Wraith would be fine with being invisible since he has to uncloak so you can see him. Even if he hears you groaning, there is counterplay to him with a silent bell by keeping a look out. With Spirit, she can just instantly nail you. If yoy want to keep the grunts, then make her shimmer or something for half a second to see where she's coming out from.
Hell, even Nurse when she blinks leaves a trail of an afterimage to see where she's blinking to to give you a chance to use LOS and lose her. Spirit just comes out and instantly wacks you due to the sounds. You can't mindgame that and the sound bugs I've seen so far is only when a survivir is on the ground. They sometimes make no sound at all for some reason.

@PassarinoT I'd be alright with breathing be directional but grunts of pain should be changed somehow. I'd be fine with that as long as its only during phasinf and as long as breathing can still be directional to give her a chance.

Yeah, that would be interesting. I think that non-directional hearing is far more powerful than people think, but it's still worth a shot. Being able to hear volume levels alone can be a fun game of hot and cold with tracking.

Not every Spirit uses Stridor (such as me), but the reason why they rely on Stridor so much is because they taught themselves to listen for grunts of pain and not other sounds such as footsteps and grass moving. I the only time I rely on grunts if pain is if I don'y here footsteps.
Removing sounds will make her unplayable. People even go as far as to say survivor sounds should be omni-directional and that will also break her!

Nurses trail makes no difference because shes so fast, wraith once again is old, and he can still see you and isnt on a timer, freddy..was trash from day 1 till rework , sounds are not pin point..survivors only grunt periodically and if your not in the open spirit still needs to deal with tiles. If you could see her at all youd just camp pallets and win the exchange every time..because pallet conservation isnt necessary..these are very important factors your not taking in mind

@immortalls96 The afterimage greatly helps against Nurse. I even have videos when I use to upload to YouTube on how to dodge the nurse using it. Wraith is old, yes but is an example of why an invisible killer can be viable even without grunts. Grunts of pain are constant. You never stop moaning while in pain. That's a fact. The grunts are loud enough to hear from about 7 steps reliably also. Easily shown in KYFs and finally, using grunts, you can gauge if you're on top of a survivor but a survivor has no tell which side of the pallet you're on. That's not balanced.
Again, in a KYFs, you can try it for yourself like I did and its fairly easy to come out and instantly swing behind them before they can move unless they guess how close you are to them.

@MigrantTheGreat She can still hear breathing and see scratch marks. She has a speed boost coming out to see where the survivor is to catch them coming out. There is only a difference of hearing someone from really far away while grunting.

Once again your treating this as a 1v1..the game cannot be that way..that mentality has gotten the game into the long mess it's still climbing out of..your suggestion is too much in that regard

- Breathing is part of life, if you take away survivor's breathing sounds than the survivor is obviously dead! despite that it's already hard for her to track because of broken sounds and chase music drowning out survivor sounds that BHVR said they turned up so that "survivor's can get a chance to escape a chase" even though the survivor meta revolves around second chance perks.
- Scratch Marks makes up for her not being able to see survivor's when she's not phasing though I run Mother-Daughter Ring which hides any scratch marks made by survivor's the moment she enters phasing I don't use Stridor on her
She has to track survivor's by sound, idk or understand what your trying to get at. The post phase speed boost gives her a chance to down a survivor because if she comes out of phasing and goes gay into (I can't say the S word) her base speed there's a 90% chance that even her lunge attack will miss.

Your own skill is still very much relevant..if it wasnt spirit would never lose in high ranks..you dont want to get caught quickly...nobody does...but what can you do? It's not fair to give the killer a handicap they cant afford..besides..spirit does not get gen hits that often..she warns you a mile away

@immortalls96 I've said why I hate Spirit and why I can't stand her. I play her at Rank 1. Hell, I just got done with 3 matches as her and 4k'd them with 2 gens left each time. I use M&A to get close before phasing. By the time they react, I usually get a hit but once someone is hurt, I rarely ever miss. If she doesn't get some type of change, I'll just play her all time until enough people get tired of it.
She doesn't have a tell except glowing and unless you're in her face, she'd hit you anyway. She's easy to play and doesn't require much. Just hit, have high volume and kill. I enjoy playing as different killer's except Freddy due to me being night blind and his dream world looks like 1 giant blob of grey to me. I also love Doctor and Hag since not many people know what to do against them.
I've been playing for almost 3 years without any real complaints about the killers but Spirit; I've been very vocal about once I got good with her and learned how to pinpoint people with her. In a lot of my video's, I use to play Spirit only because of how great she was then I started to dislike her once I played against her and realized that playing her and crushing people was fun but being in the receiving end was not.
I play both sides and I loved going against Billy and even Nurse (except 4 blinks and above was pure hell and stopped being fun so when I do play Nurse, I never used more than 3 blinks). I was here when you got sucked into the ground, rubberbanned back into the basement and couldn't get out, stuck in the basement by an invisible barrier and I sucked it up and waited for them to fix that stuff.
I've been playing so long that if they added my PS4 time also, I'd easily have 3k hours minimum. I had almost every survivor and killer P3 on console before switching to PC and then I still busted my ass to do it on PC. I love this game and I try not to complain about something unless it's just abhorrent. I've experienced what there is about this game and I honestly love it.
When it comes to Spirit, I honestly hate going against her. You have nothing you can do against her when injured. Its a stacked deck. That's just my 2 cents in it. I've been through hell with this game and even if Spirit doesn't get changed, I'll just hook suicide and find another match. Either way, I'll do what I must to keep enjoying this game.
