Skill doesn’t matter enough with m1 killers
So before anyone writes this off as a shitpost, I play both sides extensively. M1 killers have a skill cap that makes them feel unsatisfying.
There is plenty to learn as a killer in DBD, but m1 killers can only do so much. The game boils down to knowing tiles, routing and red glow mind games. Once you have those, there isn’t much more to do. You straight up can’t catch survivors at some tiles, and survivors are just going to be walked down if they are in the open.
This is why so many survivors hate spirit and Nurse, since they add mind-games that survivors have to play. The game should be balanced around all killers having solid mindgames. Sorry to ramble.

M1 killers do more than just red stain mind games
Just look at Otz with his big brain trapper mind games and other strats

Another thing to factor in is the skill of the survivors. If they are working together they can rush the gens while 1 person is being chased. If that one person knows where to run, it leads to a very frustrating experience as killer.

As a Wraith main I do significantly more than red stain mind games. Sometimes I don't even have that stain lmao

All of the best killers on tier lists are M1 killers.

Skill on (insert button) type killers are the foundation for the rest of the killers
Learning those skills will make learning the rest of the killers a bit easier

Nurse and spirit are not m1 killers. Their powers allow them to play the game differently.
i’ve watched otz quite a bit. For every trap that works, plenty others do nothing or immediately get disarmed. Trapper is one of the worst examples of how RNG this game feels at times.

I mean, you're right in that an M1 Killer has a skillcap with their M1; where after a certain point there's not much more you can learn to do with 115% movespeed and an M1.
However that Killer doesn't exist.
Every Killer has an M2, weak or strong, that can be used to their benefit with skill. Maybe not always in a chase, maybe not without the chance of counterplay, and maybe not necessarily to great or fun effect, but every Killer does have an M2 power.
Even Legion and Clown (who are probably the M1'iest of M1 Killers) have a few neat things you can do with their power.
I'm not saying these Killers are necessarily fine, fun, and balanced. I'm just saying that every Killer has an M2 they can use.

Those killers have additional things in their base kit that help with map pressure and counter looping. Both of which are the main problem with m1 killers

Nurse is fine. Spirit takes no skill whatsoever, and is more powerful than the more skillful killers. Spirit needs to be nerfed so nurse is the best killer again.
