Not a fan of this "Killer Lock."
Lobby with 4 medkits? Plague would be nice....oh well, better hope I have Sloppy on this guy.
Lobby with 2+ keys? Too bad I don't have Franklin's on this killer :(
Lobby with 3+ toolboxes? I guess my Clown's map pressure is enough.
Disclaimer - I have all perks on all killers, but these are some hypothetical situations off the top of my head that instantly came to mind when seeing this.

Yeah I can only see this leading to more lobby dodging and longer wait times.
Plus I got a good laugh out of "rank doesn't reflect skill and won't be used for matchmaking." So basically "we gave up trying to make matchmaking actually work and now we're just gonna tell you that the 20 rank difference in the post game is due to some magical secret matchmaking value and you should believe it's balanced now."

When you couldn't switch for a while in the PTB (dunno if it stayed that way), people thought "Boy, what a weird bug."
>_>;;

4 Blendettes? Wish I could Doc :(
15 -
The fact that you can't change killers in the lobby is so bad.
Just, so bad.
30 -
If this stays a thing, I'll just task manager tech during the loading screen. This horse ######### can't stay.
6 -
I'm more concerned about the fact that this creates a more inconvenient system for the player. I always ready up early as I'm spending blood points or looking through perks and I do the same before readying up in the lobby too. This is because loading times take a while and I may as well make use of my time. Now I'll be forced to be idle as I wait for a game.
I'll try not to judge it so early, maybe the balanced matchmaking will be worth it, but it is a little frustrating to see.
9 -
What's even worse about this is that survivors can STILL see which killer is in the lobby using cheats (no, BHVR have NOT fixed this, even in the PTB). Not every survivor does this, mind you - but you never actually tell when they do. By doing this lobby lock, you're essentially taking away killers only counter to that.
34 -
Yeah I agree it's just straight up bad.
Well, maybe if they let us use a mori or change our addons/perks?
1 -
If we can change our LOADOUTS, I think I can deal; but even then, as I said previously, the undetectable (because it literally only reads a text file) cheat to see who the killer is in the lobby still exists. This change, unless that ACTUALLY gets fixed (and not the typical BHVR bandaid crap they are known for), task manager tech will be my go to, and many other kills as well.
2 -
Didn't they fix it? as far as I know the new cheat is a SWF detector for killers...
But yeah that should get fixed.
0 -
They didn't get it fixed. They applied a bandaid fix to it, by removing certain information from that text log...while leaving other information that could still tell you who the killer is.
7 -
So people complained they couldn't practice new killers without getting wrecked. So they gave each killer a separate rating so you could practice without getting wrecked. And now you're mad they implemented a system so you could practice. There really is no pleasing people.
17 -
Unless I understood wrong, it's locked so that you get matched with players appropriate to your skill level on a specific killer, right? It's locked to stop a level 1 Oni from switching to a P3 level 50 Freddy in the lobby while the survivors remain at a lower skill level. While there may be some unfortunate consequences, I don't see how else they could address the issue of being a high rank, but wanting to try a new killer. I'm okay with this change (if it actually works), because I want to try new killers without getting completely destroyed.
12 -
if you could change killer, then individual ranks for killers doesn't work. you would just pick your worst killer and switch after you get a full lobby.
and honestly... I kinda already choose a killer, press "find match" and watch youtube anyway... wouldn't change anything... to me at least
6 -
^^^ this
if they also add the training mode to all platforms at some point that'd save a lot of people a lot of nerves...
4 -
Reason number 451 as to why I refuse to believe the devs actually play the game at any serious level.
3 -
It's good on paper, but notwithstanding, there are HUGE flaws with it.
For example, a player with Spine Chill will be far, far better on average against a killer like Wraith, Myers or Ghostface. So what's going to happen is if you play say...Wraith at a high level (some of us actually do this - believe it or not, without Tru3's build), you'll go against people with Spine Chill all day, rendering his power worthless.
2 -
So their fix is to not allow a killer to switch in the lobby anymore? This is stupid, undo it right now. Literally no one wants this, stop it.
2 -
Yeah, this sounds bad to me. I can often tell in the lobby if I'm up against a SWF, because usually there are lots of flashlights, med packs, and keys (or sometimes I remember the names of SWF people), and I like to change to one of my better killers when I see a possible SWF because I don't like to get bullied by SWF's, but this change will force me to go against them with a weaker killer. I feel like this will basically make me stop playing my weaker killers entirely.
1 -
Yeah not gonna lie I'd probably lobby dodge a bit more. Usually I think "I'd like to have fun with (insert low tier killer)", see a toxic looking swf and then change to someone stronger.
3 -
Yeah the amount of times survivors bring my Billy to Hawkins is unreal.
1 -
I understand wanting to do that but if you’re bad with a specific killer you most likely won’t be getting these sweaty swf anymore “supposedly” fingers crossed
3 -
Or the amount of times I'll queue up as Hag, just to have all 4 survivors last second switch to flashlights, and be running urban in game.
5 -
Holy ######### it’s all coming together!
2 -
Yep.
And I KNOW it's still a thing. I saw a streamer (who's VOD is still up I believe, I just can't name him here) on friday using it. He didn't SHOW anything, of course, but there was a point where he queued up, and verbatim, said "Ohhh! Haven't faced a Clown in a while". Then the match was with a Clown.
4 -
Looking at the post i dont believe they are saying once you pick a killer the perks that you have on the killer are locked in aswell it just the killer you have selected for the game that wil be locked in so you can switch perks around but not the killer which honestly im okay with if it means that we can have indivdual killer rankings
0 -
I'm a great fan of killer lock idea. I'm rank 5 Huntress but rank 20 Nurse, doesn't mean I don't want to play her and I want matches to be fair. Props to the designers and devs for the idea!
3 -
Ya know, if survivors cant change items/perks etc after hitting Search, then I would Okay with this somewhat
9 -
survivors don't get ranked based on which killer they faced... you don't get better wraiths because you survived against a wraith.
1 -
They literally gave what killers wanted, and now killers are mad.
How else did you expect to be able to practice your worse killers other than not being able to switch off? Also, all these people saying they're going to get 4 man SWFs all the time on their bad killers... No, you really won't. You only see the 4 man god squad at red ranks (or at high skill), so if you're bad at a killer, you have almost no chance of playing against that.
9 -
Killer-specific rank is good and this is the easiest way to incorporate this into matchmaking.
3 -
Yeah I truly think if this new thing for killers is put in to place then suriviors shouldn't be able to last minute switch either.
As someone that plays both sides I normally put on my items before joining a lobby anyway.. And as a pig main well not being able to change killer is not an issue.
💖🐷
3 -
But for real that number we currently have doesn't reflect skill
1 -
I welcome separate ranking for my killers but I did not see one word said about fixing the exploit. And knowing that killers will be locked, people will start using the exploit more.
2 -
The killer lock is really bad especially with cheaters using outside programs to see the killer in lobby.
See three flashlights in lobby now I'm stuck on hag?
Lock survivors items in lobby if your gonna lock killers. Better yet don't lock anything. This is the worst change of 2020.
1 -
Im happy about this change. Im always ready before I start searching for a game so I dont waste time. Ive hated trying to play new killers and getting so clapped its not funny. But they should have it that you can change your loadout and spend BP and such, just not the killer your playing.
1 -
This is honestly a harder killer nerf then ruin I really love this game but I'm just gonna start lobby dodging I play killer and survivor and it's actuallt ok for survivors to be locked to prevent last second toxicity (keys claudes with flashlights etc) but I genuinely don't pick a killer until I see the lobby this is enough to make me actually wanna just stop playing killer its very unfair good job killing the game I will mourn the loss of my favorite game hopefully the devs actually do listen so crazy they say they listen to the feedback in the tweet then basically say we can't fix matchmaking even though we can still release new PAID content for the game I for one will be spending no more money here on this game until they revert killer switching back I'm not even joking rn I've actually supported the devs thru all the questionable stuff even the legendary skins but they lost me maybe they'll listen 😢😢😢💔
P.S I see a lot of people saying their gonna start dodging lobbies if they remove that option next I see where we stand and WILL quit the game
1 -
I feel like this encourages dodging lobbies haha

If you could switch killers, you could easily exploit the system, someone may not play Nurse, then lobby up as nurse to get a low-skill game and switch to their killer main. I do think that we should be able to change our load out and spend points on the killer we’ve selected, but they should NOT lock survivors as a result- survivors can not exploit this system and last second perk switches should be allowed too, for both killer and survivor. I can’t believe people are threatening to quit because of this change, ignoring that you are literally now allowed to practise playing lesser used killers without the Rank 1 hassle.
Another option they could go for is whenever you change killer, send them back to the lobby and you gain priority in the next killer queue so you’ll find a match much faster.
2 -
Do you only play survivor?
1 -
I'll miss being able to switch killers in lobby but it's a price worth paying for individual killer matching imo. Like I'd rather not have my best killers and my pathetic attempts at console nurse match against the same survivors if possible, especially as I usually only think playing nurse is a good idea if I've had a few drinks.
Full flashlight team if hag or wraith might be a dodge tho
4 -
I normally have a few drinks to do my nurse daily lol I totally understand lol
🐷💖

I completely disagree with Killers getting locked. I also have the same reasoning as you where depending on the survivors or what they are using, I will switch to a Killer that will help me in that situation. It's unfair because Survivors can easily switch to another survivor with a fully kit toolbox, flashlight, etc. and Killers will get screwed in that situation.
0 -
I was annoyed at first, but if you think about it, this is the only way they can implement an individual rank system for each Killer.
I definitely see myself dodging lobbies way more often though. I'm not gonna play Wraith into a flashlight lobby, etc.
0 -
yea if killers can't switch survivor be able to either.
1 -
The problem is NOT even about being locked to a killer, a killer specific ranking system is actually a GOOD thing. but it is about the cheats that are out there that let the survivors put on perks, switch to other characters that have the perks you need to counter the killer. I can have a p3-50 nurse without even playing her one second in a match what so ever so it's not about the level of the character, it's about the programs that people are using to "PREDICT" a 1 in 20 (ok less at higher ranks for the most part because some don't get played at the current high ranks). This is about fairness, and it is not fair for the killer to be locked in and have their powers nullified the minute people are in the lobby. Oh doc? they can't switch, let's all put calm spirit on! honestly I'll stop playing dbd if this is not fixed and blocked with a specific description on what they did to prevent these programs from working (not the details but the means that they stopped it from affecting). I'd take once you start searching when it finds a match, it does exactly the same as the custom game does, where it connects everyone and you can't do anything at that point. that'd work just fine! and it's an even match!

Then dodge the lobby, it has little to no effect on survivors because they stay together and get a new killer within seconds.
