Locking which Killer you matchmake as doesn't sound fun.
I personally would rather have all killers be grouped together in matchmaking then not being able to switch once in a lobby, not only is this going to lead to a LOT more lobby dodging then usual but to wait through current queue times just to load into a lobby of 4 pink shirt ace's as a Clown, is a kick in the nuts. There are MANY times when I want to switch killers while in a lobby, depending on the team, what items they have, and generally just how I'm feeling, especially since I stream on twitch, I'm not gonna be able to take requests after loading into a lobby now. I really think this will lead to more problems then the convenience of individual killer rankings and have been worrying about locking which killer you pick as a possibility for a while now. I would like to hear what other people think about it, and it might be a different story for others since I'm comfortable with most killers in this game because of how long I've been playing. So I'd love to hear your thoughts, thanks.
TL;DR: Locking which Killer you matchmake as will lead to a lot more lobby dodging and is general a worse inconvenience then ranking killers individually in the first place.

the only real inconvenience is that one cannot take the time to spend bloodpoints on a killer they're not actually gonna play in that match.
Other than that, if you stream just take a request before joining a lobby and/or just lobby dodge, if that's what you really want. Lobby dodging is not that much of a problem anymore, since once you are in a lobby, you'll be the first in line to get a new killer/survivor, you won't have to wait too long for the lobby to fill up again.

After reading more about the upcoming MMR system, I think their decision to "lock-in" your killer in the public lobby is warranted. Since it will matchmake based upon your skill with individual killers, being able to swap in lobby would break the system (find a lobby with a killer you don't play much or aren't good with to get low-mmr survivors, then swap to your main killer and steamroll them).
I think it will actually be fine so long as loadouts continue to be adjustable after readying up.
To fix the loss of bloodweb convenience, they could always just make the bloodwebs of ALL characters become accessible from the bloodweb tab. Just have it pull up each character's (survivor and killer) picture when clicked on, just like with character selection tab, and then select the bloodweb you want to spend points on. You could then work on any bloodweb after locking in your killer, or even level up characters of the opposite role. PLUS, then I wouldn't have to listen to Oni roaring in my ear every 10 second while putting bloodpoints into him.

Yeah this right here. It seems to be more good than bad, only bad things are the bloodpoint inconvenience and the knowing who the killer is exploit.

Wait are survivors going to know which killer they are playing? That's really bad if so, because I'm going to be dodging a spirit, huntress and gunslinger everytime lol

I haven't heard anything about that, while I think the devs have made some questionable decisions in the past I think they know the absolute hellscape that that would produce.

There's a tool that survivors can use that tells them which killer they're going up against. Also shows the killer's profile, so survivors can try to figure out what kinda build they'll be going for.

If we add a good punishment, nobody will dodge lobbies. :^)

This change will hurt new surv players more than anything. Imagine Truetalent using a new r20 killer and the amount of new players he'll destroy in the process. Just bc a killer is new doesnt mean a killer main doesnt already know how to run tiles and mind game his power.

Yeah this is a point that I've been thinking about, with the exception of Nurse, Billy, and Huntress, once you become good with one killer you become good with most in the game. I don't play a lot of trapper, and the game is then gonna match me with low tier players, but that doesn't mean I'm a baby who doesn't know how to play an M1 killer, I'm gonna mindgame the crap out of the poor newbies that this new system is gonna match me with, so yes, I completely agree that's another big reason you shouldn't be looking forward to this change.

I just think if the Killers get this new feature, so should Survivors...or better yet, just put the can of worms back on the shelf and leave it there.

If MMR actually makes players on both sides more evenly distributed among the "ranks" dodging will become quite the non-issue, as if a killer dodges a lobby a new one will take their place very quickly. This already often happens, where I'm in a lobby as a survivor and the killer leaves, and it only takes a few seconds for another one to join. It's not like in the P2P days where every dodge meant a re-queue, and even re-invite for SWF parties back before parties remained between matches.
And that's now. When there's way more red rank and even rank 1 specifically survivors than killers because of how emblems work and all of that. Even if MMR isn't perfect but it does a better job than ranks it'll be even less of an issue.
And besides, I can't think of any way killer-specific MMR (a rather requested feature) can be added without killer lock. It's a both or neither sort of situation.

It happened to me.
Literally 4 minutes ago. I pre-chose Doctor, switched last 5 seconds and they thought I was going to be Doctor.

I'm pretty sure that on their screen post match you showed up with no perks and showed you as a doctor. It's a pretty common bug. Survivors can't tell what killer you're running before the game starts. If they had software to determine what killer you're playing why wouldn't they use calm spirit?

Its not really a big deal. You should already be ready to go whilst in the lobby anyways. Fresh and ready to go.

I meant as an intended feature, I hope they stop that software from working in the near future but it's not that big of a deal. I personally rarely run into people who have it.

It's not software, it's information in the log files.

Well I'm not that desperate to dodge certain killers 🤣
