What the new MMR System is like on the Xbox + I have Questions

Backstory, I've haven't Killer since the cow boy's spotlight, I play Survivor here and there, I was Rank 3 for Killer and Survivor, but with multiple Rank Reset I'm Rank 20 as Killer and Rank 13 as Survivor. The new MMR system on the Xbox has come out, here were the results.

Killer Games (btw the Killer lock is there however you can change your loadout in pre-lobby stage)

First Game: Legion, a bunch of Rank 20's, I won simple.

Second Game: Legion (PIC), I'm against Rank 2, Rank 2, Rank 6 and Rank 13.

Third game: GhostFace (PIC) (GhostFace is new to the MMR system). Rank 2, Rank 4, Rank 4, Rank 6.

Survivor Games:

First Game: Escape, 2 pip, Demorgon, Rank 20

Second Game: Died, 1 pip, Nurse, Rank 3

Third Game: Escape, Demo, 1 pip, Rank 6

Fourth Game: Escape, Doctor, 1 pip, Rank 2

I'm glad the MMR system understood quickly that I use to be in Red Ranks for both sides, however, I'm concern for new players, especially new Killers that play a few games and they're automatically playing against difficult players.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Does the MMR system know that I use to be at Red Ranks for Killer and Survivor, hence why it put me against Red Ranks?
  2. For a beginner Killer, if they win 1 game, do they automatically face against Red Ranks like I did? (Seems harsh if it does), is this the same for Survivor too? No one should be able to jump to Red Ranks instantly, really unfair for new players.
  3. What is this MMR system base on? Is it Pipping? Winning? Top of the Table? Escaping? For Survivors it could be base on Escaping , it's the only correlation that I can see, which I think it's unfair too, I could hide all game and escape via Hatch and still progress on the MMR system.
  4. If Ranks don't matter anymore why even show it? I don't see the point on having it, If I was a new killer or new Survivor I would be very dishearten that after a few games I automatically play against Red Ranks.
  5. I thought Killer has their own Skill Rating system, with GhostFace I have never played GhostFace on this new MMR system YET I played against Red Ranks...

I feel like this is in the early stage, so maybe a few days of playing, it can sort itself out.

    1. Yes, it's been collecting data on you for months now in the background so that you can start off with an MMR that's accurate to your skill level. However, if you haven't played much in that time, it might not have a lot of data to go off, so it's possible your rating is still settling.
    2. A new player shouldn't be matched against very good players after winning a single game. However, as was made very clear in the update post, red ranks does not necessarily equal good. There are a lot of red ranked players whose skill level is on par with a green or yellow rank, but just play the game so much that they get to red ranks just because pipping is easy and not particularly reflective of skill. Point being, a new player might get matched against a red rank and it might look unfair, but it's possible that red ranked player is actually way worse than their rank would suggest, so it's more balanced than it looks. That said, if someone does get matched against someone way better or worse than them, their MMR will be adjusted accordingly based on how they do in that game.
    3. Barely anyone knows, and those who do aren't allowed to reveal that information.
    4. I honestly don't know. My assumption would be that maybe they just haven't gotten around to it yet. It could be a change that's coming in the mid-chapter patch.
    5. Speaking of changes that are coming with the mid-chapter patch, this is one of them (as explained in the recent update post). The MMR system is enabled on xbox, but currently I believe you should still have the same MMR for all your killers.

I haven't played killer in well over a year if not longer but thought it would be fun to try it out last night been going against majority red ranks and losing every time 😒 so I tried using ghost face since I never used him before figured maybe I'd be paired better then nope same thing. Me and my friend also played SWF I'm a red rank him purple kept getting paired against levels 19/20 who barely started playing we let them kill us because we felt bad for them at that point as the games were considerably not fair for them so we just stopped playing all together.

On xbox here. While the ranks haven't been perfect. Its been ALOT more consistent with ranks as survivor. Be4 I would always get bad killers and teammates while now for the most part it seems everyone is around the same skill level.

I've been playing this game pretty constistanty for 3 years or just after the Xbox release, and this is the first time I just want to quit and never come back. When they put in the new matchmaking I can't get any sort of team mate that won't just point farm me leave me or kill themselves on first hook. It is taking all the fun out of the game.

Just imagine can't even build a generator before at least 2 of the other survivors killed themselves or d/c because there friend is dead. When the match is done you look and it's a rank 1 killer you at the time a rank 6 survivor and everyone else rank 18-20. Then hoping it's just a bad match you go to the next match, and about the same thing happens. Till you just quit because it feels impossible to a decent teammate.

    That is the new matchmaking.

I appreciate the time you have spent on answering my questions so thank you :). I suspected Ranks don’t matter, It’s definitely daunting when a new player sees the end table filled with Red Ranks. I’m glad the system has been collecting data and understands the difference between a new player and a experience player.

No worries, and I agree with you about the ranks. That's why I'm personally hoping that they do remove them from the end screen, so that newer players in particular don't feel confused or put off by them.
