Why do you play?

So I had this questions for a very long time, why do you play DBD and what keeps you playing it. What makes you start up the game and start playing. Like I know some people play the game competitively, others like to mess with the bugs that are in the game, and I could go on. But I want to know why people play the game and what keeps people playing over the years.

Don't get me wrong I love DBD and everyone in it community, I just want to know what people have to say. So maybe I can find a new why to play or have a goal or just know about some of the bugs that are fun.

So Why do you play?

What keeps you playing?

I was going to answer with "because I'm a massochist." But let's be honest, this is the real reason.

I enjoy the Horror setting and it's something competitive that isn't a shooter. It's a challenging game but, can also be frustrating sometimes.

I have to step away once in a while, a few bad games can do that but, I come back.

I like to try different perk builds and things, but I usually only avidly play whenever the Archive is fresh or there's an event happening, as well as when a new DLC is introduced. Other than that, I usually only play one match per day!

@Wolfy_Thunder I'm a simple man. I see a killer. I want to be chased and break their ankles for as long as possible. I see a survivor. I want to break their ankles so they can't leave me anymore.

I do from time to time testmatches, if some of the changes I have dislike got reverted. That's is it already.

Otherwise I wouldn't have time so much writing here in those forums :).

The satisfaction of crushing a good survivor team, and the satisfaction of escaping a good killer. Also the licences.

It’s different from a lot of dull af games right now. An interesting concept over all the shooters.

I LOVE the gameplay from both survivor and killer. There's nothing else like it that gives me this sense of adrenaline from looping the killer or ending chases as the killer. Those tense back and forth to finish/defend the last generator from popping.... LOVE it all. Also, this game's soundtrack is incredible. I love the chase music so much.

Honestly i don't play that much, i have 4 hours in this game in the past 2 months, sometimes i just wanna play it, then im getting tired of it after 2 matches. I have no goal anymore, even with the event i was like ''im gonna play 2-3 hours a day so i can level up all my characters'' - starting the game-queue-ing up and then alt f4 bcs i dont want to go against a spirit with mori or i dont want to get rushed.

I just dont feel like playing games anymore

Because the game is very climatic and has an ''atmosphere'' in it.

I like horror games and this game has a lot of strategy. I love being able to outplay my opponents at loops as killer. I love Oni for his fun power, that I can use in many ways (snowballing being the most efficient). I love hag because it feels like I'm playing chess, and I have so many trap types to choose from. I love playing wraith for being able to sneak up, body block and get an easy first hit. I also love his add-ons. I love using pyramid head to deny loops and snowball with cages. I love being a solo queue survivor using this perk build. Dead hard for distance, diversion for nice pebble plays, better together to tell team mates I'm on a gen, I also use inner strength for pocket healing.

For the most part, I just enjoy the core gameplay loop. Out of all of the relatively grind-heavy games I've previously invested significant time into, DbD is the only one I still actively play and enjoy. Outplaying another person (or recovering from a close call) as either of the roles still feels pretty good, even after playing the game for a couple years.

Plus with matchmaking times being as variable as they are, I can use the downtime between trials to catch up on watching movies/shows and chill out before the next match.

Because of the licenses, there is no other game where i can stab and murder people dressed up as Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger. (Except F13 but that game has no updates sadly)

The adrenaline (no not the perk :P ) Even after so many hours of playing certain instances still give me jump scares and adrenaline when there is a certain level of uncertainty.

Also this game is like a little treasure.... being that I am a horror fanatic, it brings great joy to know that it has some of the most unique horror characters as well as some of the most iconic characters to walk the screens in video games and television are a part of it. I would have never thought that I would be playing the game as Michael Myers or running from Demogorgon as Nancy Wheeler.

Now if only I could say that one day while playing Chucky or Tiffany. 😂

I'm currently taking a break on dbd, I got burnt out and been meaning to come back for like a week but I need something right now, a reason to come again because coming back again to get ######### talked almost every match gets old and boring.

But don't get me wrong I love this game

DBD has a lot of flaws but the base game is well done. It gives you a feeling of a chase and some level of real adrenaline focus. It's a sweaty game and I hate for that...but I also sort of love the sweat because it kind of adds to the idea that another actual human being is trying to escape a killer.

It's worst offense is the lack of stuff on maps, monotony and meta game aspects that break this illusion-namely loops- and overlooked or ignored fundamental game problems.

Once you get to the expiremental stage though DBD can be fun utilizing weird or new perk builds as your mains.

Couple of reasons. I have always been a big fan of cosmetics and this game has many to choose from. Always interested in what comes next. The gameplay is mostly why I play. So many different builds to use and try. "Will my FlipFlop payoff this time? Will the killer have tinkerer? Will he pluck me from the gen?" Makes it so much fun.

I always want to play another. Just "uno mas" and then another one after that. Before you know it, Boom, 1 AM.

What keeps me playing is the hope of what this game could be in the right hands.

About every 14 to 20th match I get one that was just a lot of fun. As killer it was a great game of cat and mouse with a good group. Win/lose, we have some laughs in chat afterwards. At that point, I wish there was a function to invite them to a private lobby for custom matches that actually counted in some form of casual mode. As survivor, it is a fun killer - which means he did not hardcore tunnel or camp, there was lots of mind games, cat and mouse, and win/lose it was worth a friendly chat in the end.

Unfortunately, the 19 matches in between are filled with try-hard salty players that are toxic as hell. The developers/game managers encourage it with their policies and massive bugs/loopholes as well as poor game play design. If they ever pulled their heads out of their arse and made this game more balanced, punished outright toxic behavior and tried to fix some of the glaring issues in this game, it would be amazing!

But...I guess the devs are basically the Entity. They want us to have hope, just to yank it away in the end. Sad, really sad.

Shame there is so much aura site that breaks stealth. I love stealth, but it is not a functional option/alternative in most games. That goes for both survivor and killer. Seems every match has OoO that destroys my Pig or Trapper. As survivor there is constant Chili, IAE, Murmur, and countless addons.

I wish stealth were a true option, but stealth almost entirely depends on the killer just not being very observant.

As killer: Because I like dominating and outplaying survivors.

As survivor: Because I can get MoM to work from time to time.

To be brutally honest, I have no ######### idea anymore

All this game does is bore me because I curb stomp survivors or pisses me the ######### off when I run into a squad of #########. I have no idea why I still play this game considering how ######### it keeps making me feel.

Because I find it fun. It's not really a game where my reason for liking it goes any "deeper" than that, I can just boot it up and have fun as killer or survivor for a while.

It has been one of my 2 main games for years now, along with Team Fortress 2. Sometimes I play DBD more, sometimes I play TF2 more, it sorta goes in little cycles. And sometimes I take breaks from one or the other, but I always end up coming back.

Sadly, that is precisely what caused me to play it only rarely, if I am bored with my other game, anymore. Playing Stealth has just been phased more and more on its way out of the game.

I get it, BHVR wants chases and loops. Unfortunately, if I feel like playing an in-your-face-come-at-me PvP game, I play Overwatch for that.
