Let's run a simple logic test
I'm confused about the way some people think so I'm going to set up a scenario (and I'm sure you all will understand the connection to DBD) and you all tell me what you think.
Person A and Person B are both trying to find something. In this situation, neither one of them knows where it is.
Person A has a bike (meaning they can travel faster) and a weapon.
Person B is on foot and has no weapon, and also has to be wary of Person A who is out to kill them.
Logically speaking, which of these two people has the better chance of finding the thing they're looking for first.
(Yes, this is about hatch)

Well A technically, although B gets a head start. A also for some reason decided to kill his and Bs 3 friends who were also looking for the same thing. He clearly has anger issues.
8 -
Logically, it would be A.
0 -
You also have to point out that person b is solely looking for the item and person A is wearing a bike helmet while looking for both.
8 -
All other things being equal, the person moving more quickly will have the upper hand. However, as we all know, all other things are not equal, starting with the fact that survivors are in third person.
10 -
Person B, who can equip a perk to show them exactly where it is.
11 -
Who ever is luckier is the one who finds it faster.
It's been said before, but the hatch is a chance for the last guy to escape, not to definitely escape.
I will say that some of the door spawns can be a bit busted, and should spawn in a manner that again, gives the last guy a chance to open the door and not a moment where the killer is able to watch both doors at the same time.

LOL clearly XD

You would think person A because of the faster travel, and on dbd that would be right 7 or 8 times out of 10.
BUT my thoughts would be that Person B had a better shot at finding what they were looking for, due to these reasons
- Moving Slower and more cautiously see more time to assess the surrounding area
- With Person A going faster with no need to be cautious and also looking out for person B to kill them means they are not paying attention to finding what they are looking for as much as person B would be doing.
Thats what poped into my head... so yeah.. Person B should have a better chance
(I'll prob see other peoples responses and be like oh yeah but still)

Yeah, that bike helmet is a pain in the ass, but it doesn't affect their hearing
0 -
Are they both wearing masks due to corona?
0 -
If they know what's good for them. Probably not though because Person A already didn't care about the 6 feet rule when they killed all of Person B's friends. And Person B was going around touching other things that other people touched, probably at the same time.
1 -
I get what you're saying but as long as you have a decent pair of headphones, you don't really have to pay much attention to anything at that point besides listening for that hatch sound. And the only reason to not look for hatch at that point is if you visually see the survivor or their scratch marks
1 -
The disrespect. Do they know many more could be doing the same thing?
1 -
When looking for hatch though, you're more often going to hear it before you see it, so third person view isn't much of an advantage though, right?
0 -
Killer's chance at finding hatch is higher but it's still completely RNG.
0 -
oh it's 100% RNG. I agree. I've had matches where the hatches literally spawned in front of me while I was running.
I just don't understand how some people say that hatch is a 100% survivor sided game mechanic, when both players can search for hatch, and the killer is faster and doesn't have to hide, giving them a slightly better chance to find it. That argument just doesn't make sense to me
0 -
It's not survivor or killer sided, hatch is just a broken mechanic overall. EGC should start and gates should be powered right away. However, maps have to be adjusted so gates aren't next to each other.
0 -
It depends on the map and spawn location. If it spawns in an open area, you're more likely to see it before hearing it. It should also be noted that only survivors have perks to provide them with massive, yet short speed boosts. Killer perks to increase movement speed are very constrained (and for good reason).
0 -
Thats why a lot of survivors just wait at one gate, so when the killer kick the hatch they manage to finish the gate in time to escape.
0 -
Oh that. It's because the end game hatch was made specifically to help survivors and in no way gives killer an advantage, in fact hatch escape hurts killer. Obviously they added it in to give survivors a chance and prevent a 30 min hide and seek game but my point stands.
The process itself (finding the hatch) is killer sided but the end game hatch mechanic was specifically made to help survivors and only hurts the killer.
0 -
The person who already stumbled on it and only has to recall its location.
Or the person who has it show up next to them randomly.
Were also forgetting to put in the distance TO said object. It doesnt always spawn in the middle, with both people moving the same clockwise direction.
With so many variables, I'd say it's about 50/50. Balanced. As all things should be.
0 -
The EGC was designed to help BOTH sides avoid hatch standoffs. Period. Everything else is a balancing byproduct of that and people whining about "1v1 is unfair" in a 4v1 game.
0 -
People would just complain that the last guy gets away too easily because the doors are too far apart. There is 0 doubt in my mind there would be a million salt posts on this forum about how far away the gates are. Hatch is fair as it is, in fact the killer is probably gonna find it first, but that doesn't stop people from crying about it every day.

Excluding Nurse, Spirit, and Billy of course who can circle maps multiple times in the same time it takes for a survivor to circle a map once
0 -
Not to mention there's 4 survivors to the one killer
As far as hatch goes theres the cirucmstances leading up to that point. I feel if you couldnt get the gens done the killer either played well and deserves the 4k or your team was playing poorly and deserves the 4 deaths. Id rather they remove the hatch personally. Why is it if survivors are getting crushed there is always an option to escape. If killer is having a terrible match they're told to git gud.

This is probably the most biased "logic" "TEST" I've read in a while.
Survivors have 3rd person view, they have resources to hide whereas the terror radius tells survivors where they are, and there is a literal perk for survivors to find hatch. Next.
0 -
Its still random chance. Just because Person A can cover 10% more ground doesn't mean that the object will be in that extra ground covered.
And your analogy is off, given that 15% extra movement speed isn't that much, the killer begins their search much later, and they cannot hide where they have already searched so a smart survivor can tell where the hatch is not simply by looking at where the killer came from.
Still, hatch is a stupid mechanic. It either robs the killer of a kill or robs the survivor of their last chance to escape. The killer shouldn't be punished by a roll of the dice, nor should the last survivor have no hope of escaping.

In order for 4 people to be looking for a hatch, the match would have to basically be over and no one cares about hatch at that point.
We're clearly talking about a 1 v 1 hatch search but sure, let's take things out of context

it really depends on the scenario, there's no absolute answer here.
Here's just 3 broad examples
Example 1: hatch already spawned, the survivor knows where it is, the killer doesn't - the survivor wins.
Example 2: hatch already spawned, both know where it is - the killer has an edge, but the survivor might decide to go directly to the farthest door, so it's still debatable who will win the hatch game.
Example 3: hatch not spawned yet, but doors are veeeeeery far away one from another - again, reaching the hatch first won't let you win the game, if you are the killer.
To summarise, it really depends on your definition of hatch game - my definition would be "will the survivor escape once the hatch is open?", while maybe yours would be "will the survivor escape through the hatch?", definition which would be merely academic though.
In my experience, the hatch game (my definition, of course) is usually in favour of the survivor, but it becomes almost a 100% killer game if the killer is running whispers.

Well, Hatch is not the end of the game. I usually don't even bother in searching it. I just wait next to a door until they find the hatch. Then, i usually open a bit the door before the first light shows up.
Wait until the killer appears and sees nothing changed, when he's out open the door and leave.
Having a bike doesn't means you can go for every pedestrian lane without taking in consideration the other passers-by.
Have a nice day!

Perks were not being put into the equation. If we want to talk about perks, Killers have Whispers which in the end game, eliminates whole areas of the map for them to search so.... perks are irrelevant when talking about a simple race to find something
0 -
There's definitely a lot of variable to consider. I was speaking primarily towards the last example (although doors are rarely far away from each other) where hatch hasn't spawned yet and both players have to search for it.
Of course there are a lot of factors that could tilt it in the survivors favor or the survivor could choose not to look for it at all.

I was saying there's 4 survivors as just a blatant statement of the game.
As for the hatch, yes in 1v1 the killer has the advantage. However if the killer killed 3 people before the gens were completed they basically won at that point. Yet the survivors still get a chance to escape. If all the gens are completed before the killer killed anyone there is no 2nd chance mechanic. One that works anyway. NOED is not a 2nd chance perk like DS and it can be completely removed before it comes into play. There's blood warden but you need to be able to hook someone after the gates are open. Most people 99% a gate and wait till everyone is there before opening. I remember the days when you couldn't close the hatch and you had the dreaded stand off. Id rather they remove the hatch and tell the survivor "better luck next time"
1 -
Person B who will wait for a sacrifice animation to finish and person A who will close the hatch before it can be used. Or person A will down the person B and put the person on hook while person C is still waiting for the sacrifice animation to finish.
Good thing person D added instant sacrifices and person A doesnt need to wait anymore.. :^)
