useless addons thread
use this thread to help make a complete list of currently useless addons for survivors and killers i will list as many as i can but i am missing some killers so mine will have holes. help me fill them in please.
Survivors:
FLASHLIGHTS: leather and rubber grip addons
TOOLBOXES: grip wrench, protective gloves, spring clamp and instructions
KEYS: blood amber.
On a side note many of these addons are nearly defunct due to the ratios of keys to addons this is problem with maps as well ie. i have 3 maps and 30 map addendums as well as 3 keys and 20 prayer ropes but the upgrades to these appear about the same frequency as keys and maps making it likely that you will never use them.
Killers:
TRAPPER: most addons are fine but some need to be combined or heavily bufed ie. rusted jaws and serrated jaws should be combined, logwood dye and tar bottle should be combined.
honing stone should apply even if they are helped. wax brick shouldnt be outclassed by 2 other addons 1 of them in the same rarity. the setting speed addons should apply to the full animation or have their effect tripled.
WRAITH:
The beast is currently incompatible with winning a game please re think this one
the serpent feels like you would need 3 addons to make it work maybe have it add a cloak speed buff and up its rarity
the "blink" and "swift hunt addons have have values that are far too low
HILLBILLY: i am going to skip because hes still finding his feet
NURSE: all are pretty lackluster especially the dollar store versions of her main perks as addons but her base kit is good enough already
HUNTRESS:
The stone addons dont need to be timed and there dont need to be 2 of them 2 exhausted addons is a waste of space as well
pungent fiale and amanita toxin seem to just be there to be filler
THE SHAPE:
vanity mirror: scatched mirror fills the same role better
glass fragment: try to get this to proc i bet you cant do it
the stalking walking speed addons for shape and ghostface dont serve any practical purpose.
THE HAG: i havent played enough to say
DOCTOR: perfect
FREDDY: i havent played enough to say
CLOWN:
movement speed while reloading addons are pointless
why does sulfuric acid vial have a timer?
tattoo's middle finger: why do i need to see the aura of someone who just screamed?
SPIRIT:
juniper bonsai and dried cherry blossom i dont see i diffrence in how survivors asct when i use these if you know how to get any value out of these please comment below
PLAGUE:
nearly all of the numbers involved are pretty lackluster except the effectiveness ones
GHOSTFACE:
as stated above on the shape stalking movement speed
crouch movement speed: besides tea bagging what are you using these for?
duration of marked: why you would need more than base kit is beyond me
PIG:
Every Pig add-on that deals with Skill Checks
Every Pig add-on that penalizes Survivors wearing RBTs except maaaaaaybe Rusty Attachments
Amanda's Secret
(thank you @TAG!)
LEGION
-Stab wounds study: reduces by 5 seconds a 30 second timer that can be infinite because the survivors can run or mend so it stops.
-Frank's mixtape: by the time that you down someone with this the game is already over.
-Susie's mixtape and never-sleep pills: These add-ons bait you into going after people that you can't reach.
-Defaced smiley pin: this add-on blinds survivors for 60 seconds which doesn't have any use.
-Cooldown add-ons: The numbers on these add-ons should be increased because they make no difference on reducing a 4 second cooldown to the minimum of 3. Also, these add-ons make an even less difference if not stacked.
ONI
-Add-ons that affect blood orb absorption speed: they affect something that doesn't benefict you in a way that matters.
-Rengiro's bloody glove: this add-on only works if you don't use your power (which is the main reason to play a killer) and in very few maps with a very specific build.
-Iridescent family crest: this add-on is useless because it requires for you to fail and the range is too small for it to have any meaningful impact. By that distance you can see the survivors in most cases.
FREDDY
-The block set: these add-ons are very useless because they apply a useless status effect in specific scenarios.
THE HAG
-Waterlogged shoe: this add-on removes the ability to teleport around the map in exchange for +0.1m/s, becoming a 4.5m/s killer. Its a very bad add-on outside of a very specific build that relies on the survivors being kinda dumb.
-Disfigured ear: cool concept, but only works on newer survivors.
DEMOGORGON
-Every add-on that affects portals except red moss and the ones that increase the range of being detected by "of the abyss". Portals are a very niche tool to use.
DEATHSLINGER
-Iridescent coin: you need to have a very good aim and need to hit a survivor in a 3 meter space (from 15 to 18 meters) just to expose them.
(thank you nullspellic?)
if i have not mentioned a killer here it is because i do not own them please fill in the gaps if you can

Speed limiter on bubba is like getting hemorrhoids.
2 -
The crouch movement speed on Ghostface makes him move faster when crouched. Not increased the speed it takes to crouch. They aren't bad add-ons, because it can allow you to sneak up faster on survivors while staying hidden behind objects, but they just don't compared to how much the cooldown add-ons reduce.
0 -
really? ive heard on new bubba its fine
1 -
i didnt think they reduced the time to crouch i was talking about how crouch on ghostface does have a use besides teabagging. the movement speed of just standing up is better than the claim of lower profile you might get if you crouched. the tassles waving everywhere are make a couched ghost face more visible than a standing ghostface plus movement speed debuff
0 -
I've gotten gen grabs because of crouching around the haystacks on the farm maps since they are tall enough to hide a crouched ghostface, but not tall enough to hide a standing ghostface.
You can also crouch at certain loops to hide your red stain for mindgames as well.
0 -
i cant help but think the extra movement speed from standing might have made crouching unnecessary or as least moving while crouching

The tattoo's middle finger on clown is helpfull if you loop on tall tiles or try to mindgame the survivor. It's like an addon alternative to I'm All Ears

Most of Plague’s add ons are fine in my opinion. The amulets are a bit rubbish and I can’t think of any situation where you’d want to run Iridescent Seal, but otherwise they all have a use. Hag’s add ons are also pretty good, a couple of meme ones but for the most part they’re strong enough and helpful.
On survivor the gloves and sponge for med kits are basically useless. Increasing great skill check progress is a waste of an add on slot. You’re basically always gonna want more charges or more speed, since they’re consistent and skill checks are so dependent on RNG. I wish I could swap every pair of gloves and sponge I have for the brown bandages.

Ya forgot demogrogon
0 -
hmm i hadnt thought of that. you think its like the equivalency between the wraith's all seeing-spirit and surveillance?
0 -
no read bottom sentance. i dont own/ play demo
0 -
the all seeing iridescent variant is more consistent and it offers information on which generators are worked on. Surveillance pairs well with Hex: Ruin but without it its hard to check up on generators

kind of like how tattooed finger has no cool down and doesnt require a rushed action?

My bad

The better players will try to dodge the gas as it is a nuissance to loop the killer , but if they stay on the tile you have the higher advantage

Crimson Ceremony Book (Very Rare): Grants Hemorrhage effect to tormented survivors, but only while they are also injured.
Who the hell on the dev team thought this was not only a good idea, but also an effect worthy of a Very Rare add-on? It's a Completely Worthless/Useless piece of expensive garbage in any bloodweb.
Rust-Colored Egg (Very Rare): Grants the blindness effect for 60 seconds on any survivor who gets tormented.
Slightly Better than the previous add-on, but overall is "second verse, same as the first" when you think about how bad it is.
Suggested Potential improvements that can be made to these add-ons-
CCB: Make it apply Tremendous Hemorrhage effect to survivors for as long as they are tormented regardless of their health state (so they bleed while injured or healthy), and make blood trails last 3 seconds longer.
RCE: Apply Blindness for as long as the survivor is tormented, and 15 seconds of Exhaustion as soon as they become tormented.
Either add-on: Alternatively, change one of them to apply the Torment effect on a survivor under the condition that you either give them a protection hit, bring them to the injured state, or put them in the dying state with it (just one of those conditions). Add a downside of increasing the cost of using Punishment of the damned to 40% of your available charges instead of the current 20% so you have to be more skillful when using it.

A few things:
Plague has the best add-on set. They managed to nail how add-ons should work with her. Her browns are meh, greens are good, and pinks are great. The numbers do not need to be tweaked, if they were then she would be overpowered.
Docs add-ons are insanely overpowered. They drastically overbuffed them when they updated his base kit to remove madness decay. He is not the paragon of perfect add-on design, he gets exponentially stronger by equipping them. Add-on dependency is bad enough, but Doc doesn't even need them in the first place, so he just becomes overpowered.
Ghostface's crouch add-ons are for chasing and looping survivors. All of those easy-to-see-over walls instill a false sense of confidence in most survivors that any good Ghostface can exploit by including crouching in his mindgames. Most people tend to freak out when Ghostface suddenly disappears behind a wall. It's just unfortunate that he's so dependant on recharge add-ons that most people forget about that sort of his kit.
And Blood Amber is the single strongest add-on survivors have. It is wallhacks on the killer. Good luck looping any good survivor with a pink key and a blood amber add-on.

Trapper: Logwood dye needs to be changed. Tar bottle is perfect as is. Also, the coils and jaws should both be changed to be not useless.
Clown: Tattoo's middle finger is ok. Not great, not bad. Movement speed addons help tremendously with reloading in chase.

what is max time for blood amber? how many times can you use it?
0 -
It depends on the key. Clearly, on a purple key, you're only going to get a couple of flashes, a green key is a bit more, and on a pink key you have about 8-10 solid seconds of wallhacks depending on your other addons. But, and this is the important part, you don't have to use them all at once, or in 1-second incriments. A flash of aura can tell you way too much. Where the killer is, where they will be, what they are doing, etc. One of the most effective tactics is is to exploit the overwhelming chase music (thanks Devs) and just leave the loop when you see the killer trying to mindgame. They can't bear or see you and so have no feedback, which is apparently fair for some reason.

i suggested combining logwood dye and tar botle not because tar bottle is weak but because logwood dye is not good enough on its own.
the coils are fine i love stacking them and putting them in obvious but inconvenient spots to force them to waste their time. jaws need to be combined to be the trapper equivalent to "blind warrior-white" on the wraith.
you guys are winning me over with the finger but i think you might be conflating reload speed addons which are fantastic with reload walking speed addons which are nothing but a wasted slot which are barely noticeable when stacked
0 -
The moment speed addons absolutely do not help you.
The reload speed addons outclass these so greatly its not even funny.

dont say "clearly" in your responses it sounds condescending also i specified max so refrances to different tiers of keys and addons arent relenvent we know what the max build is. so 10 checks to see where the killer is for like 18k bloodpoints? that does sound too bad plus they will probably bring a mori or franklin's when they see a key anyway its balanced if not buff worthy
0 -
Uh, sure. Make assumptions instead of looking at the addon in question. Pretend quickswitching isn't the norm. And also pretend that the bloodweb is the only way for survivors to get items and add-ons, and that literally seing exactly where the killer is on command with no downside is okay, or the fact that I don't think I've ever had to use more than half a pink key's worth of aura reading to demolish a killer.
But it's clear now they you subscribe to the "spend BP for advantages" school of thought.
0 -
the bloodweb is the easist most predictable way to get items. also addons get deleted now at the end of trials. both sides "spend BP for advantages" why is this a problem?
1 -
The reload time ones are definitely better, but green movement speed with yellow reload is good.
0 -
thats beacuse the yellow reload is amoung his best addons not because the green movement is worth considering
0 -
id on play demo but ive heard he only as one add on worth running is this true?
0 -
Kinda, While most of his add-ons are pretty basic fare and only make small changes to how he uses his power, there are at least a few that are useful in most situations. However, There is one Common add-on that everyone agrees is a Must for him to have, and because of them many players have made requests to the devs to make it part of his base kit: Rat Liver.
What this add-on Does is "Slightly increases the Demogorgon's Movement speed while charging Of the Abyss" Aka, His shred attack. That slight buff to his movement speed makes a world of difference and I'm not lying when I say it drastically improves his ability to aim and Land a hit with his Shred Attack. It's actually very fortunate for the player base that the Add-on is common, so players are not likely to run out of them, but it's also kind of insulting that without it the Demogorgon has a much lower success rate of pulling off his shred attack, which makes the add-on completely essential to playing him. Many Killer players in the community agree that when an add-on such as this becomes crucial to the point that you can't see yourself being able to compete without it, then there's something terribly wrong with the killers base kit, and the add-on's effect should be permanently incorporated into it.

For the hag I would definitely say that the pink shoe add-on is worthless, as you cannot teleport to your traps with it on but it makes you move slightly faster.
The disfigured ear, hand, and heart aren't the best either as they have little to no use in builds. Or at least the builds I have used anyways, secondary hag main here.
Other than that, the rest of her add-ons above some decent use. I prefer trap setting speed and teleport distance, but the aura and duration are cool to try new things with.
also sorry for typos, I typed this without my glasses on

Hellshire Iron is the most situational and useless ultra rare addon in dbd right up there with Iridescent Seal of Metatron
0 -
As for Clown.
Tattoos is EXTREMELY underrated. It's not about knowing the survivor is there. It's an I'm all ears with no cooldown and an easier requirement at every loop in the game. It's great for mind-games.
Reload movement speed is just outclassed. I'd like it to increase the clowns action speed (Pallet breaking, picking up, vaulting) while inside the gas.
Feathers however, are now useless. Clown has a 1 second cooldown after throwing where he can't M1 or break pallets. It has hardly any impact on gameplay and the only time it hurts you is if you throw before breaking a pallet. These should just be removed.
It's fine that sulf has a timer, same with blindness, but they should just be extended by a bit.
0 -
Useless opinion: the speed limitator should also break pallet since it can't one shot ppl. It could be more usefull and not ignored
0 -
I know you said hillbilly is finding his feet butttt his new add ons are trash. Especially the ultra rare that allows you to go through pallets but at the cost of the chainsaw becoming useless. That has to be the worst ultra rare add on in the game.

So these are the killers/add-ons that i think are missing there. I don't have pyramid head on the list because i haven't played with him enough to have an opinion. Also, i'm pretty confident with numbering the legion's useless add-ons but there is a chance that i might misjudge the other killer's add-ons that i mention. If you find them reasonable you can put them there. I like this thread tho :)

the reload m/s addons by themselves are just so tremendously outclassed by the reload speed addons you might be mistaken by saying they do alot when really the reload speed addons are the only ones worth running. why had a timer for a damage state? it doesnt matter if its an hour long timer when it adds 2 seconds to a heal and does nothing for the rest of the time there is no reason to have it be time dependent
0 -
Blood amber? That one is actually useful though.

WTBacon said it best: Thick Cork Stopper > Fingerless Parade Gloves >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> VHS Porn > Smelly Inner Soles
if you are using them together you might be wrongly attributing the diffrence of the movement speed addons with reload speed addons as the brown gloves are much better than the VHS it might even be better than stacking movement speed they are that bad but you might not notice if you use both kinds of addons together
0 -
they gain less distance the faster you reload as the diffrence from even stack reload movement speed is pitiful compared to actual walking speed they are just so out classed and even overpriced. they both aim to minimize distance gained but reload speed does it better and minimizes time wasted as well
