cant get into a match?

i load up the game, hit space, select my killer and press ready. about 10-20 seconds after that it says that i need connection to use this feature. i get booted to the title screen, press space, says the same thing. i have to alt + tab out of DBD and close it in steam, which is saying im disconnected and the steam community page is down. is steam having a moment, or are the dbd servers being wierd?
