Lol at “wasting pallets,” Otz video inside is this considered skill?
So just to sum up if you don’t wanna watch, he checked profiles pregame and at least three of the survivors had 3000 hours so this is a “high rank,” match but Would you consider it high MMR or “skillful?” the first chase consists on the survivor pre dropping every single pallet and attempting no mind games... yet of course they still cranked out gens and due to DS/Unbreakable and locker/DS players with almost zero looping skills still managed 2 escape and 2 kill...

I believe that's what the devs want. 2 and 2. Balanced, as all things should be. Seems his MMR is starting to even out. Poor thing. Getting the higher players now. Can't wait for people screaming how unfair MMR is. Can't. Wait. At. All.
Edit: He got a 2k then a 1k. Balanced.

Survivor is so easy to play

ez, get gud

That proves nothing. 3000 hours don't mean skill and otz doesn't use meta perks on killers.
1 -
Survivor is 100 times easiest to play than killer.
Im rank 1 on both sides on xbox, and playing killer is way harder than survivor especially if your playing smart survivors who know how to loop and mind game.
Its not impossible but it is hard af especially if its a swf on coms.

Gen rush doesn't exist. He chased too long and never applied pressure to the others. Hell, they never even healed xD Not as great as everyone seems to make him out to be. He seems average. Second video, he gets 1 kill.

Well, it´s been said time and again on here - time spent playing does not directly translate into skill.
I watch Otz quite a lot since he´s my favorite DBD streamer. Sadly, in this particular match he didnt quite live up to his peak performance imho.
After the match he is stating the obvious: There is no way to guarantee a 4k every match, especially with Legion. Some games u just get unlucky spawns and tile placements, or make a not so optimal decision on the fly.
I feel you though. The way these Survivors played, the outcome feels a little bit undeserved. Nothing one can do about it though.

What meta perks would have changed the pallet situation? If anything the fact that he ran Brutal benefited him... Ruin wouldn’t help here because of the chase the other three coups have kept on gens. Even the old sporty fury/enduring combo wouldn’t have mattered to end the chase because he dropped them so early.
Yeah I don’t mean to imply Otz is the best, but he’s obviously pretty good as killer. Granted playing a weaker killer with meh addons as well. The main thing I wanted to talk about was how much of the killers time you can waste just by tossing pallets and holding W
0 -
Ye ever since Scottjunds Videos the word has gotten around just how powerful holding W can be.

It's really all survivors need to do to win. Run 2nd chance perks, do gens when not being chased, throw pallets and waste the killer's time for as long as possible while everyone else does gens.
On newer maps this doesn't really work because there's a lot more unsafe pallets that killers can punish, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways to waste a killer's time.

The game its so broken on so many levels. Fun game though, but talking about balance its a joke. This is far from being an e-sport game.

Not sure if you’ve watched more, he’s pretty solid but he experiments a lot. But this isn’t really about how good he is or isn’t. Maybe I shouldn’t have said the hours but I was making a point that it was an all red rank game.
Im curious if what he did during that chase is considered skillful by the new MMR system? Is pre dropping every single pallet and leading a 3 minute chase skillful? Or is leading the killer in a 90 second chase using just mind games and windows more skillful?
1 -
Depends on how the MMR works. If survivor 1 loops the killer for 2 min by dropping every pallet and running then survivor 2 loops the killer for 1 min without any pallets, who has the higher MMR?
1 -
Yep, I’ve done it for a while I mean I got to red ranks (I know ranks don’t matter but still just as a reference) just by doing maybe 1-2 loops and then dropping, waiting for the break and running away. being honest I don’t belong in the top levels of the MMR, but somewhere around just above average.
Of course the whole thing relies on your teammates actually doing gens and not crouching behind a bush for two minutes while you get chased... ah the life of solo survivor.
Yup, I still think most maps still have enough to work with that you can waste enough time IF IF IF IF your teammates just stays on gens

When I initially commented, I was already a bit pissed off so it wasn't a fair judgement. It could be that they do base pallet drops as part of it and add more points for an actual slam. It too, could be how long the chase was over skillful evades or all of it might be taken in account for an overall score but if that's the case, it would take ages to get a decent MMR O.o Humans are strange creatures.
We do stuff that isn't always rational. Like going for an unhook while NOED is active. Best to leave but I like to do my best as a teammate. Do I get punished for rescuing but dying still? If just dropping a pallet gives you points while in a chase, leveling your MMR will be too easy and could be why we get a lot of low levels.

This is
That’s why I don’t think MMR works for this game.
To give another example if I am totally unaware and let Myers stalk to 99% of level 3 then he leaves and uses that ton instantly down my teammate am I “more skillful,” because I didn’t actually go down? Anyone who has played knows that’s ludicrous.
And against plague if inconstant cleanse the very instant I get even 1% sickness to keep myself healthy then why should my teammates be punished for being downed by a plague with 5 corrupt fountains to work with?

Just because it's the survivor objective to hold down a button, doesn't mean gen rush doesn't exist. Gen rush is something that exists whether you believe it to be or not. I'm not gonna go an throw out whether you play killer or not, but I can tell it's not often.
Also how is he supposed to apply pressure when he's chasing someone already? He has to down them, take them to a hook, and travel (legion doesn't have much traversal speed) to another survivor that's most likely sitting on a gen on the opposite side of the map. He can't be everywhere at once. If you say he's an average killer you're either trolling or you're the type to rely on second chance perks and call it "skill".
1 -
Its hard to say, because I mean if you look at the results his strategy was actual pretty effective right? If you wait to drop at the last second and get cucked by dedicated servers that would stink so sometimes dropping early feels necessary.
And your rescue scenario is another good one, I’m like you I would prefer to save my teammate with BT if possible and take the hook/death myself but I wonder if they will hurt my MMR in the long run?

Stuff like this is exactly why I think a MMR system would never work well in a game like this. You just can't accurately determine skill without watching the player yourself.
1 -
You have to micromanage a lot of things as killer. It's why slugging is a must then chasing another off a gen to force another survivor to get off one to heal the slugged player. Its all about time management.
2 -
I don’t think Voice meant it that way from his follow up post. In the end maybe I shouldn’t have used an Otz video or mentioned hours/ranks at all in my original post.
My point is if that chase is considered “skillful,” by thr first survivor then you are going to have some AWFUL players in high MMR games and their teammates are gonna pay for it. Solo survivor is about to get super difficult I think.
0 -
This is when you tunnel, slug and do what you must as killer. You play nice all the time and survivors will burn you. You can't play like that and expect survivors to just walk around. You have to force them off.
1 -
Not getting downed by any means necessary and pumping out gens fast is what high ranked players should do, they don't have to be necessarily skillful in chases as long as they pressure gens. That's how DBD is currently designed to work, so I guess by the current design of DBD they are considered skilled players.
2 -
I know that I started using the word dedicated for when I would get hit through pallets after already dropping them so some matches I'm forced to drop them early due to the killer's latency screwing me. I know we can't know but a general idea would go a long way so we don't do stupid actions like NOED rescues that get us punished. Is it based upon damage, hooks, heals or based upon the current system but to a less ordeal?
0 -
Yeah the whole wasting pallets, even shack pallet is servile notion. I would argue the only wasted pallet is if you are almost to one, eat a hit and THEN drop it anyways.
Grest point about the first down, that’s where the killer starts the cycle of hook, chase one whole another saves, repeat which if done properly means only 1 survivor is ever on a gen from that point
1 -
There's a reason killers that can easily snowball are the top tier killers in this game. Pre dropping pallets and holding shift w, regardless of how bad you are, is more than enough to beat even one of the best killers on a weaker killer, if that killer plays "fair". And if that's what the game is like against bad players, you can imagine how difficult it is against actual good survivors of equal skill to the killer. And I say 'weaker' killers because the devs and their statistics would tell you a low tier killer is actually A tier 'statistically'
But nothing gets done about it. How could you expect this game to have any semblance of balance when you make some maps the size of Africa and some maps actual decently sized, then toss in the RNG of completely broken tiles as well? Did you know that some maps have so many pallets that it doesn't matter if you pre throw?

Mentioning hours/ranks is fair and fine. I firmly believe those two help determine skill. The thing with determining skill today is difficult due to the new rank reset that only lowers you down one color rank instead of two colors (which helped flush out those that don't play vs. those that play more and gain experience) , getting carried by SWF aka boosted, heavily relying on second chance perks, or getting lucky hatch.
MMR will never work, or doesn't exist. When BHVR opened matching making, red ranks would dodge green and gold ranks so BHVR removes seeing ranks in lobbies then say rank doesn't mean skill. Then this whole "MMR" thing comes out. They say play at least play 15 games on one killer to settle in that killer... I've played well over 30 Oni games and still get baby survivors. "If you've played killer already the killer will have a default MMR that matches the killer." Still not the case. The game was the most balanced when rank matching and old rank reset was still a thing.

wayyyyyyy too many variables for MMR to work, heck too many variables for balanced games.
Twenty killers so far, some of which perform better or worse on certain map types indoor/outdoor/large/multi level etc
Close to 100, or maybe 80??? Perks for each side some of which work better against some killers than the others, again some which work on some maps better than others.
And each map itself is RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG
