This game was such a cool and innovative idea. A ranked survival horror game sounded amazing!

Until the new MMR changes.

I'm a new player, rank 16 survivor, rank 13 killer.

And these changes have put me against constant high ranked opponents, even after the whole 10 games thing, and seeing streamers and other content creators who have played over 10 games have the exact same matchmaking issues is truly horrible.

It's become incredibly difficult to have motivation to play this game anymore, hell I questioned even getting into it as there was so much DLC, each one containing crucial perks for a budding killer player such as me, examples being:

BBQ & Chili

Thrilling Tremors

Discordance

Infectious Fright

Blood Echo

Pop Goes The Weasel

Corrupt Intervention

Make Your Choice

Save The Best For Last

Play With Your Food

Blood Warden, etc etc

And the Shrine of Secrets is not a good workaround for people who do not intend on purchasing DLC characters, as it relies on RNG and you having to hope to god that the perk you want is in the shrine this time.

Sure, you may make the argument that some of these perks are from killers who you can get for free, like Plague, Legion, Oni and Clown, however you need to grind to about level 40-50 to get just one of these killers, meaning the game is expecting you to struggle in game after game in order to get enough Iridescent Shards, and this struggle has become so boring and not even fun with the recent matchmaking changes, even if I play the Killers that I am best with.

So I then decided to try Survivor, as pretty much all the useful perks aside from DS and OoO are available (and for context, I play on Xbox, meaning I have Feng Min and Ace Visconti available too.)

The experience was somehow even worse, as the constant assault of red rank killers was impossible for me to get through, and then there's the issue of teammates holding you back (being honest I'm probably one of said teammates due to a lack of experience, which means that high ranked players will only be hindered by new players like me).

So I'm now at a point where it feels like I'm stuck.

I can't get good perks on Killer because I do not wish to purchase DLC. And I cannot succeed well in any games, and the toxic survivors who love to click flashlights and teabag at exit gates only makes the experience even worse.

And I can't play Survivor either out of fear of holding my team back due to this new matchmaking system.

I'm not expecting you to have sympathy or to really care about my experience. What I'm hoping is that this post can act as a message to developers, as they do not seem to care about the fact that new players have it really rough and these changes make it even worse.

Thank you for your time.

I mean, I don't blame you. This game is entirely new player unfriendly, and that was even before the (admittedly) busted MMR fiasco.

I have warned friends & family away from getting into this game since around the time Stranger Things released.

Like you, I had a friend who was VERY interested in this game. I had talked it up to him, and gave him some basic advice/explanations on things. He was going to wait to buy it, and learn survivor with me on a weekend we were both off. Well...he downloaded it, and tried playing.

The next time I saw him, he told me he was waiting for his refund from Steam...yeah.

I keep going back to the idea that certain features/perks/etc of the game need an overhaul. The list above is a good example. I'm having a hard time explaining it, but certain parts of the game feel disjointed, and that they work against each other.

Called it. dbd will be an empty lobby simulator within the week because of high rank hand-holding alienating the new player experience cutting off new revenue streams and ending new content development before it even begins.

    wd.

It's just the MMR system is clearly busted. No joke: I cannot be put in a game with players lower than Rank 8... and I'm Rank 19. I've had about 20 games between Killer and Survivor in my entire life, have never even been put into the same game as another player near my rank.

If there was literally no system at all and it randomly threw me in with players of any rank, at random, I'd probably have better games.

The system just clearly is doing the opposite of what it's intended - like when you lose bad, you must gain MMR.
