    One key to totems is they are hidden and some survivors are too concerned with gens or killer baiting to go cleanse them. Adding a counter will virtually ruin (no pun intended) all Hex perks for killers since its a constant reminder that all these totems "should" be broken before leaving the match.

    Maybe if totems are troubling you, cleanse them. If you have trouble finding them, use small game. Pretty simple

    Agreed.

    Also, the old map's have fine spots for finding totems. The newer ones like Midwich make it so time consuming it's pointless to look for totems outside SWF. Perhaps redoing those, at least ones tucked away in nooks and crannies like lockers that are only visible from one angle while visiting that one room, would be a good idea.

    Oh my gosh, yesss! That would be great, especially challenging when you've got Huntress (or other killers) with perks like Territorial Imperative! 10/10 I support this idea.

    Literally this. I agree that having them displayed on the HUD would be too much, like a constant reminder if that makes sense. But THIS is perfect.

    I'd love it to be a part of small game or another perk but not as a base feature.

    Because NOED is a perk and having to equip a perk to counter it seems reasonable.

    Just thought about that and every "totem counter" suggestion is only targeting NOED. There is no other need for a totem counter. At least so far. If a general core mechanic added to the game feels necessary just so people can see if they potentially get hit by a single perk, I would say there, at least, have to be more endgame perks that need to be affected by totems or that there needs to be another core mechanic making use of totems.

    A totem counter would actually encourage cleansing as a secondary objective and would slow down gens. Currently, solos just cleanse what they run into if they even get a chance during gameplay, because they have no time to go around the whole map without knowing if anyone is actually doing anything productive. A counter would give them a notion of where they stand and a sense of urgency to force them off gens if they're falling behind on totems.

    Those saying "bad idea", or that it should be a perk, are probably too worried they'd get their noed pre-cleansed. They'd rather have solos duplicate efforts inefficiently or just being unable to do all the dulls, all the while keeping their totems up.

    Just do bones is a nice line until the survivors actually do them, amirite? A bunch of nice words that you throw around without meaning them, because the reality that transpires from these replies is that you want slow gens but you want to keep your totems as well. You can't have cake and eat it too. I guess you guys prefer 4-man death squads who don't need any totem counter at all. Remember when you get on the forums complaining about seal teams, that's you reaping what you sowed, because swf is where solos head off to when they're fed up.

    Ha! Thank you, I appreciate the sentiment, but I can’t take credit. Saw the idea elsewhere, experienced a 🤯, and knew I had to spread the message. Every post I’ve seen on it (2 others I think), the idea has been very positively embraced. Hoping the devs catch wind of this soon.

    only if the totem counter ONLY when using small game or maybe candle in the basement but don't have them where hooked survivor can see them easy when hooked.

    If totems were mechanically and fundamentally changed as I've suggested numerous times then maybe it's possible.

    A suggestion I really like is one that prevents the nightmare scenario of every killer running any Hex: Perk (that isn't Haunted Grounds or something) which is the idea of "deployable hex's". Basically whenever you start the trial with a Hex: Perk in your loadout the auras of all totems are revealed and at the beginning of the match you can scout out the best totem spawns and spots and choose which totem your Hex is attached to (of course this comes with the trade-off of potentially wasting time at the beginning not defending gens or chasing survivors, as well if you act predictable survivors can catch you in the act and know exactly where that Hex is).

    When approaching a totem depending on what slot it's in (1,2,3, or 4) you press that number key and the Hex: Perk is attached potentially after a short animation and the flame underneath it is suddenly lit. After which point it acts like normal and can be cleansed / destroyed at any time.


    This would also be interesting to potentially create a new dynamic of introducing Hex: Perks towards the middle / late parts of the match.

    I could be okay with it, IF totems actually got substantial improvements to functionality and placement. Just adding a counter without doing anything else would be further nerfs to hex perks that are already overall weak to begin with.

    To be clear though, I think NOED needs a rework as well.

    Totems offer a way to counter play and negate otherwise too powerful perks. They spawn in relatively easy to find areas and require the killers to spend time away from gens if they want to protect them. In short there is no great need to offer more ways to counter these totems, inner strength provides a bonus for survs who choose to cleanse them and i'm sure more perks will come as they are a core mechanic.

    I think it way totems spawn is more why they don't want a totem counter you know they spawn in dumb place like right next to gen or in a plce where nothing covering it.
