Camping is viable, but is it fun? Killers who do it why?

Is it just me, or is camping more common among players new to the game?

Camping has a lot of meanings you know...
Some players like to camp as killer either for a strategic reason: such as using the hooked survivor as bait for possible ambushes or traps (such as camping near the hooked survivors once the doors have been opened to get the rescuer down on the ground and trigger blood warden, you name it)
Other times killers camp indirectly or without consent: such as survivors playing poorly and therefore keeping the killer in close proximity to the hooked survivor (either that being around the basement's entrance or elsewhere)
There is the normal camping: where the killer gives no square crap about his rank but wants the specific person dead (presumably personal reasons)
And there is the forced camping: this forced camping is basically a sort of last defense against a derank in higher ranks (mostly due to the smartness of certain players, poor map pressure applied by the killer, etc). This type of camping I can personally understand, even though it isn't fun for both sides, it is the only ticket to some blood points and a safety net against deranking. "Don't hate the player, hate the game son"

Getting facecamped on Solo Q sucks especially when you are paired with potatoes that don't punish it. I have no qualms with other forms of 'camping'.
Killer coming back to a hook after an unhook isn't an issue to me.

I sometimes get complaints on Nurse for camping which is mostly because I move so damn slow its inevitable some form of lingering around the hook is going to happen especially when Survivors are lurking about and I can sense them with Whispers / Stridor. Also once leaving hook vicinity its really easy to return with a couple of blinks which is by design so not really my fault.

camping during the start of the match is dumb asf and i think its really boring just like why?
Midgame depends on the situation if you are noticing quick unhooks or you see two people with bbq but not the third then proxy camping is a ok idea again depends on the situation. This isnt as boring as start game as you have been learning how the survivors are playing and adpating to the situation.
Endgame all gens done and someone on hook.... yeah im not leaving the hook person its boring asf but what im suppose to do carry on patrolling when all gens are done and let you have a free unhook na im going to trade hooks if possible but it is boring asf.

Oh yeah this too. Punishing survivors for "gens before friends". Camping to make sure the survivor progresses to the next stage if the survivor has been on the hook for a long time and still not been saved. Like if you leave them on the hook for over 30 seconds and a gen or 2 flies if Im closer to the hook than to the gen I might just go back to them to get a hook stage out of it. Sometimes a bit longer to also get a trade out of it if they are coming.
On another note, I just got ######### from a survivor (only one the others had either left or said gg wp) saying I never left the hook, because he could hear my terror radius all the time. We were playing on "The game".... I was lost looking for stairs xD.

∆this is by far the best summary of all camping types. I personally play 3-6.
Additionally there is the timing thing in the state of progression.
At start - useless, unnecessary, toxic and boring
After catching a toxic surv in the middle - re-toxic, not necessary and enjoyment depends on mood
Egc aka open doors - not toxic and probably the most efficient strategy at this point.
